Celebrate Pi Day at the Nerd Swing Dance this Friday, March 13th at the Lakewood Masonic Temple

Nerds Unite at the Lakewood Masonic Temple Swing Dance on Friday, March 13th! (15300 Detroit Avenue) Come and celebrate 3.14 with us and help support The Cleveland Junior Jitterbugs' swing dance program through our bake sale. We are looking for people to donate pies, cakes, or anything baked and we are also looking for volunteers to sell these yummy treats. At our annual Pi dance, we celebrate our geeky, nerdiness openly! Wanna dress like a Tardis? That's cool! Want to dress like a band geek? That's awesome too! The cost of this dance is $15 per person. You may pay at the door or online via Eventbrite. Learn how partnered swing dancing works! It's science! There is no need to have previous dance experience or to bring a dance partner. We rotate partners during the lesson. What a perfect activity for all of us introverts! Immediately after the lesson (at 9 PM) Hepcat Revival will kick off an awesome night of music and swing dancing until 12 am. Be sure to pay attention to the songs that Hepcat plays. They have some special songs that fit our nerdy theme perfectly! When was the last time you danced to a jazzy version of the "Spiderman" theme song? Or to an original swing song about plate tectonics? It rocks! Be sure to wear your geekiest, nerdiest attire as we will be having a costume contest during the first band break around 10 pm. One of our celebrity guest judges is Bri Hall the artist who drew our super cool graphic for the event. We have REALLY awesome prizes this year! Let your nerd flag fly and you may be rewarded! Be sure to check out our bake sale. We are selling pie* as a fundraiser for our Cleveland Junior Jitterbugs' swing dance program. One slice is $3, 2 slices for $5 and a whole pie is $12. Cash only. WHAT: Auditions for The Laramie Project directed by Amber Michalak WHO: Teenagers 13-18 WHERE: MAD* on Broadway, 2655 Broadway Ave Lorain WHEN: Tuesday March 10th -or- Wednesday March 11th, 6-9pm. DETAILS: No preparation needed, We will do cold readings from the script. Plan to stay the whole time but we will end early if possible. Callbacks if necessary will be March 16th. Rehearsals will be Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons. $25 fee if cast. SYNOPSIS: In October 1998, a 21 year old student was kidnapped, beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. He died in a local hospital several days later. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project made 6 trips to Laramie to conduct more than 200 interviews with the people of the town and then constructed this deeply moving theatrical experience. The Laramie Project is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humans can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

If so, the YPC wants to hear from you! What is the YPC? Our Mission: The Young Playwrights Collective, a group of Playwrights Local, is a community of early-career playwrights who support each other through feedback, network development, and the creation and pursuit of various production opportunities. Our Vision: The Young Playwrights Collective (YPC), with the support of Playwrights Local, will create a network across Northeast Ohio with other early-career theatre-makers. Alongside mentors who are established in their field, these artists will grow and develop in their work, creating theatre in a supported community. The YPC will be an active part of Playwrights Local: producing work for readings, workshops, and productions; planning community events; volunteering; and attending performances. North Pointe Ballet Presents “What’s Your Why?” Repertoire Concert When: March 14th, 7:00 pm and March 15th 2:00 pm. Where: The Lorain Palace Theater, 617 Broadway Ave., Lorain What: “What’s Your Why?” is NPB’s second annual repertory concert. This encore performance will reflect on what motivates dancers, artists, and members of the community through classical and contemporary pieces. The performance will begin with contemporary repertoire that challenges the dancers with athleticism and artistry, and features video interview of the dancers answering the question “why do you dance?” NPB will then present excerpts of Tchaikovsky’s *Swan Lake* as they showcase the technical, classical strength of the company and invited student participants with choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov. The program will conclude with a new work by Artistic Director Janet Dziak that will engage the audience as she tells her personal story of why she started North Pointe Ballet through movement. The NPB band will return to share the stage and provide live music for this dynamic piece.
