Widowed, divorced, lonely; a risk taker. She has an irreverent, wry sense of humor and a generous nature, the latter often masked by an inclination to take charge of things. Despite some crippling arthritis, she is active, vibrant and sometimes sexy. A great character role. *Who: UA Students and Community Members* *What: Open Auditions for Shakespeare's Richard III* Directed by guest artist and UA adjunct instructor Michael Gatto. The second of the two Main Stage productions in UA Theatre’s 2019-2020 Re(Viewing) Tyranny Season, Shakespeare’s “Richard III” offers a historically-inspired remembrance of what happens when cruel hands wield great power. “Richard III” is a blood thirsty tale of an authoritarian antihero you will love to hate. Standing third in succession to the throne, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, conspires to take the crown by whatever means necessary, be it by ambition, cunning, marriage, or even murder. This production will utilize non-traditional and gender non-specific casting. *When: Audition time slots will last for 60 minutes & begin at the top of each hour. * - Monday, December 2, 2019 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM - Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM Appointments are preferred and can be scheduled at tinyurl.com/UATheatreSpring2020, however, walk-ups will be accepted based on availability. For the audition, *prepare a 45-80 second classical monologue*. Be ready to move and to work with other members of your audition group, reading sides from the script. It is various poems and monologues, combined with music and dance that comment on living with HIV and the quest for love. The tradition of the choreopoem as a theatrical vehicle to explore the conditions of black life goes back to at least Ntozake Shange’s For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When The Rainbow Is Enuf. Jessica (f): a nerdy and offbeat teen in the class Timothy (m): a horny and expletive spouting teen, also in the class Pastor Greg (m): middle aged, infatuated with Margery Roles available for The Cake, directed by Shane Stahl, performance July 5, 2020 Della (f): 40s, pleasant, round, with a mass of big, curly hair. Tim (m): 40s, her husband, a good ol’ boy. Jen (f): early 30s, with a wedding binder, who has dreamt of her wedding day her whole life. Macy (f): early 30s, her reluctant fiancé, African American. Roles available for The Pillowman: directed by Kyle Huff, performance on November 8, 2020 Katurian (m): a writer of gruesome short stories often involving children. His disturbed imagination is the result of hearing his brother abused when they were younger. Michal (m): Katurian’s brother, who is “slow to get things.” Tupolski (m): a detective, the “good cop.” Cold, uncaring, detached. Ariel (m): a brutal and violent detective who has a vendetta against anyone who commits crimes against children because of abuse in his own past. Questions?
