Desperate to reconnect with his long-estranged daughter, he reaches out to her, only to find a viciously sharp-tongued and wildly unhappy teen. Big-hearted and fiercely funny, The Whale tells the story of a man's last chance at redemption, and of finding beauty in the most unexpected places. This role requires mature language and simulated alcohol use Ellie (female, any ethnicity, late teens-early 20s) - Charlie’s daughter whom he hasn’t seen since she was a baby; a deeply intelligent, deeply cynical teenager who feels—probably accurately—that she is always the smartest person in the world; very manipulative and shrewd, has convinced herself that she doesn’t care about her ailing father; never valley-girl or sarcastic and eye-rolling, doesn’t say things to be mean, she says them because they are true. This role requires mature language and simulated drug use (marijuana) Elder Thomas (male, any ethnicity, late teens-early 20s) - a Mormon missionary who happens upon Charlie just as he has his first cardiac episode; a somewhat naïve, innocent young man who just wants to see Mormonism help one person before he ends his mission; makes a big effort to be a good Mormon boy, but underneath it all he’s a normal disaffected, pot-smoking Midwestern teenager. This role requires simulated drug use (marijuana) Mary (female, any ethnicity, early-mid 40s-50s) - Ellie’s mother; Charlie’s ex-wife, who has also not seen Charlie in 17 years; a hardened alcoholic who has been there, done that; a woman who has made a lot of bad choices, but feels that she has done the best she can given the cards she was dealt. *Warren, Ohio-* The Millennial Theatre Company (MTC) is holding auditions for their 2020 season opener, *Shrek the Musical!* Auditions will be held at the Girard First United Methodist Church (22 N Market St, Girard, OH 44420) on Thursday, December 5 from 6-9pm, Saturday, December 7 from 10-2pm, and Sunday, December 8 from 1-4pm. Please use the West Main Street entrance by the green awning, across from City Hall. Signs will be posted directing auditioners downstairs. Head shots and resumes encouraged, but not required. Please prepare a 30-60 second selection, with sheet music, in the style of the show. An accompanist will be provided. A cold reading from the script will be provided. Dance auditions will be scheduled after the first round of auditions. All roles are open. Ages 16+ for all roles; 2 younger actors (ages 8-13) will also be needed for Young Shrek/Young Fiona. MTC will perform the production March 13-15 at The Robins Theatre, with a special school performance scheduled for Friday, March 13 at 10am. The show will be directed by Joe Asente and music directed by Savannah Florkowski. Rehearsals will take place M-Th 6-9pm at The Girard First United Methodist Church following the start of the new year. No tech week conflicts will be accepted. Shrek the Musical tells the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Neeley stars in the film as Jesus Christ and will be at the Cedar Lee Theatre for this one day only event. AUDITIONS Monday, November 25 at 7 p.m. And Tuesday, November 26 at 7 p.m Performance dates: January 16, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26 This is the odd couple audiences have come to know and love, but with a twist. This time it’s “lived-in look” Olive Madison who takes in the perpetual “neat nick” Florence Unger after her marriage breaks up. Instead of guys playing poker, the gals have a go at Trivial Pursuit. The Pigeon sisters are replaced by the hilarious Manolo and Jesus. This Neil Simon classic is packed with laughs and surprises as Olive and Florence battle it out! Director Shelbey Linder is looking for 6 females and 2 males Olive Madison (Lead): Female. Attractive, divorced, professional, vibrant, active, quick-witted, big-hearted, but also relentlessly sloppy and careless when it comes to the routine concerns of her personal life. She is very much at home in running shorts and a t-shirt and still looks smashing in a cocktail dress. The female counterpart to the original play's Oscar Madison. She is a woman seriously in need of order in her life. Florence Unger (Lead): Female, attractive homemaker/housewife and very recently separated from her husband, was a bookkeeper before she married, extremely "pulled together" (obsessively so), pathologically organized and neat, even sanitizes the telephone cord. Her personality is the complete antithesis of Olive's personality. The female counterpart to the original play's Felix Unger. A woman who badly needs to cut loose, give it up, take a risk. Mickey (Supporting): Female. A New York City policewoman and an organizer and problem solver. Vera (Supporting): Female. a bit literal-minded and a bit slow to get a point that everyone else gets instantly always seems "a few beats behind the conductor." Sylvie (Supporting): Female. highly energized and a wise-cracker. Renee (Supporting): Female, A wisecracker and a bit of a complainer as well. Manolo Costazuela (Supporting): Male. Handsome, very well-groomed, and Spanish with a Castilian accent; he is every woman's dream date and showers both Olive and Flo with attention; he must have good comic timing, as he gets very emotional; he is sensitive and appreciates Florence's sensitivity.
