Willkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome! Sandstone summer theatre is looking to fill multiple jobs in our Production Staff for Cabaret in the summer of 2020. Show dates will be July 9, 10 and 11 and will be performed at The Stocker Arts Center at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio. The show will be directed by Jennifer Ludwig. Both women are in a state of personal crisis, but the Irish cousin’s struggles with manic depression are coming to a head. A series of interspersed “ancestor monologues”—snapshots of women from their shared family past—provide a historical counterpoint as the two women confront conflicts between responsibility to self and others. Looking for a place to play in public? We can help with that! Are you a garage band that is looking for a public venue to play at? Maybe you play a musical instrument and always wanted to give busking a try? Perhaps you have aspirations of becoming a rapper or other solo performer? We would like to invite any and all musical acts to come entertain the residents of Bedford, OH. The Bedford Downtown Alliance is pleased to announce that they will be sponsoring First Fridays. We are seeking musical acts, buskers and other performers to entertain visitors to our Downtown area during the First Fridays. As we are a fledgling organization, we do not have money to pay acts BUT we are happy to welcome fledgling performers. We can provide a public venue where you can gain some experience playing in public or to record a demo tape. We are now up to a few hundred attendees at our 1st Friday gatherings. Our only requirement is that you need to be family friendly (no foul language or violent lyrics). Our next First Friday is October 4th from 6-9pm. The theme for this 1st Friday is "Around The World". For this event, we would love to host performers playing some kind of cultural music. That being said, we will take any music and we have several more 1st Friday dates available as well. If you are looking to learn how to swing dance the right way, come see us at Get Hep Swing. Our 5-week group classes begin Tuesday, Sept 10th at the Brecksville Center for the Arts. Please pre-register at www.BrecksvilleArts.org. The class runs from 6:45-7:45 We make learning how to partner dance FUN! Learn the easiest form of partnered dancing – The Jitterbug! Also known as East Coast Swing, or just Swing. You will learn the basic footwork patterns and how to lead and follow a fun mix of spins and turns in open and closed position. Learning to swing dance is a great way to meet people and get some exercise! You do NOT need a partner to take this class however, there is a discounted rate for people who sign up as a couple with one person assuming the role of Lead and the other person assuming the role of Follow. We do rotate partners in class, however, if you bring a dance partner and do not want to rotate that is fine too. You must pre-register to be enrolled in this class. Classes do sell out so please register as soon as you are able. Energize your body and spirit with Afro-Brazilian dance styles from northern Brazil! Learn the basics of Samba de Roda, Samba Reggae, and Samba Afro in this exhilarating joy-filled class! The class is open leveled, free of charge, and will be accompanied by live drummers! Isaiah Tyrelle Boyd, currently touring with "The Book of Mormon", is a California native who has had extensive training in Afro-Brazilian dance. After years of training, Isaiah was invited to dance with Águas de Bahia Dance Company (SF) under the leadership of Tania Santiago. Isaiah has traveled to Bahia, Brazil not only to participate in their Carnival but to also expand his knowledge in the dance techniques of the Afro-Brazilian people. The contemporary approach of his class is derived from the techniques of Tania Santiago. Using Afro-Brazilian movements coupled with contemporary styles to create a story that can only be told through dance.
