Have alternate selections prepared if needed. Character Breakdown: USHERETTE/MAGENTA: Female (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt) Usherette sets up the show and sings opening number, Magenta is one of Frank’s servants. Creepy woman who exudes strength and sexuality plotting with Riff Raff. Roles could be split between two actors. BRAD: Male (Range: Bari Tenor) Quirky, but very much in love with his fiancé, Janet. Overly optimistic at times. JANET: Female (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt) Good girl who is madly in love with Brad. Always seems to be frightened of something. Keeps losing more of her clothes throughout the story. Emotionally weak and caves into pressure easily. NARRATOR: Any Gender (Range: Non-Singing Role) Follows our two hero’s through the story by narrating directly to the audience. RIFF RAFF: Male (Range: High Rock Tenor) Creepy man resembling more of a zombie. Often makes harmless conversation seem awkward and foreboding. One of Frank’s servants. COLUMBIA: Female (Range: Mezzo Soprano Belt) One of Frank’s servants. Tap dance experience preferred. FRANK 'N' FURTER: Any Gender (Range: Baritone) Master of the castle. Welcomes Janet and Brad with open arms. Obsessed with creating a man to be part of his sexual entourage. Master of seduction. ROCKY: Male (Range: Tenor) Frank’s magnificent creation. Sexually appealing with prominent muscles. EDDIE/DR. SCOTT: Male (Range: Baritone) Eddie, delivery man, “went to pieces.” Misses the rock and roll of life. Comes back to life only to die after his solo. Scott is Eddie’s Uncle. Roles could be split between two actors. 4 PHANTOMS – Any Gender Various Singers play many ensemble roles throughout the show. Should be able to harmonize well. All are part of “small-town Americana”. The play takes place in a dilapidated railroad station. *The characters are as follows:WomenHilda *- station master, 40’s-50’s *Maggie *- mail carrier, 20’s-50’s *Penelope* - editor/reporter for the town newspaper, 30’s-50’s *Myrna *- town mayor/choir master at local church, 40’s-60’s *Donna *- Jerry’s wife, 20’s-30’s *Debora* - Fairfax’s daughter, 30’s-50’s *Men:Satch* - Hilda’s assistant, 50’s-60’s *Leo Tannenbaum* - a visitor 60’s-70’s *Fairfax *- railroad executive/Debora’s father, 60’s-70’s *Jerry *- Donna’s husband, 20’s-30’s *Hilda, Satch, Maggie, Penelope and Myrna are required to sing acappella. * *The Story: *“This is the most hopeless place in the world!” Hilda intones as she and Satch argue over what time it is. Hilda dreams of faraway places to fight the tedium of running the Holly Railway Station until, that is, Leo Tannenbaum drops in out of nowhere just before Christmas. Suddenly an old radio springs to life and the local group of carolers begins to sound like the Morman Tabernacle Choir. The whole town now gets into the Christmas spirit. Coincidence? This nostalgic story is full of eccentric small-town characters who begin to discover the true wonder of Christmas, making us all wish that we, too, could take a ride on The Christmas Express. We ask that you prepare a song which showcases your vocal range (under 90 sec. / bring sheet music / an accompanist will be provided). Songs from the show are acceptable but not required. Please dress for movement, and bring your calendar with any and all conflicts from auditions through October. Readings from the script will be held at callbacks. *Cast of Characters (ALL ROLES AVAILABLE):* *Ren McCormack* (Tenor, Heavy Dance, 16 - 18) Ren is seen as a young rebel always getting into trouble, but at heart he is an energetic young man who is dealing with the pain of his father's absence. He displays this pain through his quirky sarcasm and by dancing. *Ethel McCormack* (35 - 45) Ren's mother. She is a strong willed, outspoken single parent who would do anything for her son. (Singing is more traditional musical theater than other characters). *Reverend Shaw Moore *(Baritone, 35-45) Reverend Moore is the most powerful figure in Beaumont. He is a stern, strict, solemn man with a booming voice who runs the town with an iron fist. However he also has a tender side and is struggling with the loss of his son. (Singing is more traditional musical theater than other characters). *Vi Moore *(Mezzo-Soprano, 35-45) The strong-willed preacher's wife who holds the moral fiber of Beaumont in her upright stance. She feels she is losing her husband and daughter and doesn't know what to do. She ultimately is responsible for holding her family together after its terrible loss. *Ariel Moore *(Belt, Dance, 16 - 18) She is the preacher's daughter. At first glimpse it would appear that she is the perfect girl; beautiful, perky, energetic. But look closer and she is her father's worst nightmare. She is energetic, strong willed, sharp tongued, and aware of her sensuality. *Rusty *(Comedic, Dance, 16 - 18) Ariel's friend. A bit of a ditz but knows everything about everybody. *Urleen *(Belt, Comedic, Dance, 16 - 18) Ariel's friend. The smart one of the group. *Wendy Jo* (Belt, Comedic, Dance, 16 - 18) Ariel's friend. Doesn't say much but sure knows a lot about Beaumont and the town rules. *Chuck Cranston* (Rock Tenor, Dance, 16 - 20) * A motorcycle riding, foul mouthed, leather wearing, trailer park product who takes one look at Ren and realizesthat there's only room for one bad boy in this town. He is dating the one girl that Ren obviously has a crush on, Ariel. *Willard Hewitt *(Tenor, Comedic, Dance, 16 - 18) A simple country bumpkin with a warm heart and a big crush. About The Loush Sisters... Originally created in 2003 for a Cleveland Public Theatre special event, The Loush Sisters have become a favorite of CPT audiences, performing in 2011 at Playhouse Square's 14th Street Theatre and in 2013, 2015, & 2017 at CPT to critical acclaim. The brain children of Liz Conway, Michael Seevers Jr., and Beth Wood, The Sisters are an unapologetically raunchy, lounge-singing duo. (Imagine Saturday Night Live's Sweeney Sisters (1980's) but raunchier & more inappropriate.) About The Process... This rehearsal process will be conventional in nature and based in character development, song, and basic dance. There may be some scene creation during the rehearsal process. Actors will be expected to make strong proposals, be generous, and meet deadlines given. Rehearsals will begin on or around October 14th. Rehearsals are 5-6 times a week, with evening weekday rehearsals and some daytime weekend rehearsals. Performances begin with a preview on November 21st and opening on November 22nd. The production runs November 21 - December 21, Thurs/Fri/Sat at 7:30pm in the Gordon Square Theatre. Important Information about The Play... The Loush Sisters is bawdy, irreverent, and sometimes raunchy. This is a highly topical production with poor taste jokes inspired by the headlines. Auditions...
