EVENT: One Weekend Only! "Dover Players 10 Minute Play Experience July 19-21" (You vote for your favorite play!) One weekend only, July 19-21! Dover Players 10 Minute Play Experience! The July event will feature a variety of twelve 10 minute plays that are the finalists from over 65 international plays submitted to Dover Players. Six plays will be performed on Fri., July 19 at 8:00 pm and six plays will be performed on Sat., July 20 at 8:00 pm. The top 3 plays from Fri. and the top 3 plays from Sat. evening performances, as voted by the audience, will compete on Sun., July 21 at 3:00 pm. Those 6 plays will be critiqued by 3 judges not affiliated with Dover Players or the playwrights. Award certificates will be presented to Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Creative Writing - the playwright award. The playwright award includes the certificate, monetary gift and a picture of the Dover Players director and cast who performed the winning play. Super Interview (directed by Lisa Carter) Mr. Melvin interviews Mrs. Smith for an important position in his company, but it seems that Smith's super qualifications might not be enough to win the job. A Box of Ashes (directed by Adam Leventhal) A man and a woman seek the help of a psychic to discover the reason a spirit seems to be present in the woman's house and, in the process, discover a surprising revelation. Eddie and Edna (directed by Greg Lavelle) Sometimes it becomes a struggle to sort out the real from the imagined. Sometimes, even those closest cannot help. The Secret Life of Phones (directed by Lisa Carter) Two cellphones talk to one another. They have a secret love affair going on, but it's coming to an end because the one phone is about to be replaced by an upgrade. Bay Village Community Theater will hold auditions for its August staged reading, "Mark Twain and His Jumping Frog" adapted by Preston Postle from Mark Twain's "Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" and correspondence. Lakewood's Beck Center will hold Open Call Auditions for David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize winning *GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS* On *Monday July 15th* and *Tuesday July 16th* beginning at 5PM Director William Roudebush (Beck Center's "*Equus*" and "*One* *Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest*") is seeking six men to join Broadway, Television and Film star Austin Pendleton www.imdb.com/name/nm0671721/ and http://www.ibdb.com/broadway-cast-staff/austin-pendleton-55862 for this sensational drama. Pendleton plays Shelly "The Machine" Levene. The rest of the cast is as follows: - Richard "Ricky" Roma <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Roma>: The most successful salesman <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salesman> in the office. Although Roma seems to think of himself as a latter-day cowboy <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy> and regards his ability to make a sale as a sign of his virility <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virility>, he admits only to himself that it is all luck. He is ruthless, dishonest and immoral, but succeeds because he has a talent for figuring out a client's weaknesses and crafting a pitch that will exploit those weaknesses. He is a smooth talker and often speaks in grand, poetic soliloquies <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monologue>. - James Lingk: A timid, middle-aged man who becomes Roma's latest client. Lingk is easily manipulated and finds Roma highly charismatic. Upon consulting his wife, he becomes desperate to regain the money that Roma has closed on him. - John Williamson: The office manager <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_manager>. The salesmen need him because he hands out the sales leads but Williamson does not like how they treat him, especially Levene, who berates him for the unpromising leads Levene always seems to get. - George Aaronow: An aging salesman with low self-esteem who, lacking hope and confidence, is not without conscience. His frustration begins to boil up when the office is robbed, and he worries about being convicted based upon Detective Baylen's interrogation. Ironically, he and Roma end up the remaining two salesmen for the firm after Shelley is found out, and gives up Moss as his co-conspirator. - Dave Moss: A big-mouthed salesman with big dreams and schemes. Moss resents Williamson and agency owners Mitch and Murray for putting such pressure on him and plans to strike back at them by stealing all their best sales leads and selling them to a competitor. Moss sees Aaronow as a potential accomplice, but eventually convinces Levene to work with him in selling the leads to Jerry Graff, a local competitor. During his final rant against Roma, his indignation reveals that his jealousy extends towards even his fellow salesmen, and he decides to go to Wisconsin to avoid further questioning. - Baylen: A police detective <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_detective>. Review of "Come From Away" touring production at Playhouse Square

‘Come From Away’ offers a kinder, gentler musical Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Be warned: There most certainly will be hugging among strangers at Playhouse Square. And random acts of kindness will likely break out as well. The reason is “Come From Away,” the touring 2017 Tony Award-winning musical by Irene Sankoff and David Hein. It is a one-act celebration of the selfless generosity, self-deprecating humor and heroic hospitality displayed by the ordinary citizens of Gander, Newfoundland on September 11, 2001, when they saw their small town’s population double overnight as 38 planes with 6,579 passengers were forced to land and stay grounded for five days when the U.S.’s air traffic was restricted due to terrorist attack. The musical, which unfolds with great pace and greater sense of purpose under Christopher Ashley’s direction, offers a running oral history of those days as seen through the eyes of a dozen locals and a dozen visitors the locals affectionately refer to as “plane people.” Inspired by real people, these characters are portrayed by the same 12 versatile cast members (Kevin Carolan, Harter Clingman, Nick Duckart, Chamblee Ferguson, Becky Gulsvig, Julie Johnson, Christine Toy Johnson, James Earl Jones II, Megan McGinnis, Andrew Samonsky, Danielle K. Thomas, and Emily Walton) who shift from one to the other and back again with little more than a change of hat or coat and some terrific acting. Every cast member brings high energy, a powerful voice and an air of authenticity to this production – even after nine months on the road – and delivers this musical as if it was a true labor of love.
