What? Get Hep Swing presents - A swing dance party with The Skatch Anderssen Orchestra When? Saturday, Februray 23rd, 2019 Where? The Lithuanian Club, 877 E. 185th Street. There is a parking lot behind the building and you may also park in the Key Bank or Post Office lot. Use the entrance behind the building on the far left. Dance lessons? Yes. Join us for a beginner-friendly LINDY lesson from 8-9 with Get Hep Swing owner and founder, Valerie Salstrom. You do not need to bring a dance partner for the lessons or the dance. We rotate partners during the lesson. If you prefer not to rotate dance partners, we are okay with that too. Everyone is really friendly and you will get asked to dance during the social dancing from 9-12. Band? The Skatch Anderssen Orchestra plays all of your favorite swing dance tunes from 9-12. In the tradition of the great, large Jazz ensembles of the last half of the 20th century, the Skatch Anderssen Orchestra began carving its own niche into the Northeast Ohio area musical landscape around 1990. This powerhouse 17-piece big band performs the music of Basie, Ellington, Buddy, Thad & Mel, Maynard, Kenton, Woody, and more. If you prefer not to rotate during the lesson, please help direct the other students past you each time we rotate. What do I wear? Wear shoes that allow you to pivot and turn easily. Some people find this floor a little slow so, wearing your leather soles or slippery soled shoes might be perfect. Attire is casual and comfy. Where what makes you feel good about yourself. What is the cost? $12 per person. $5 for first-time attendees. No pre-event ticket sales. Pay cash at the door. We welcome anyone to join us who has an interest in dance, music, socializing and fun. We don't care what your physical ability or size is, where you are in life, where you are on the spectrum of sexual or gender orientation, what color or creed, or non-creed, you are. Are you a man who wants to learn how to follow or a woman who wants to learn how to lead? That's cool! This idea is not new to the swing dance scene. We are the easiest club to join. If you have an interest, you are in. :) We love spreading the gospel of swing dancing and we are excited to share the language and culture of this truly American, urban folk dance form with you. It is important for us to let you know that this dance style started in the African-American ballrooms of Harlem, New York in the late 1920s/early 1930s. You will find this dance, and the ones that came from it, incredibly expressive, empowering, beautiful, and joyful. We can't wait for you to experience this conversation of dance with us. Landon now in a lead position had a unconventional connection to EZRA, Will he keep it together or will his heart take over yet again? After a intense and scary party Landon saves Ezra from a stampede of fleeing people. Ever since then landon continues to finds ways to stay close and rotate around the world of Ezra until the moment when he eventually melts into the only one who truly loves him. This is love story of little words. Jamell “Iggy Saint” Sigh POC Male Late/Early 20s -- The new kid on the block. Jamell is the Up and coming dealer on cleveland's west side. Him and his gang are a threat to the established gang led by Landon (Tooth). Is he in over his head? Sometimes oblivious to surroundings he finds himself in a heated battle of who's drugs are better. Iggy is romantically Involved with Indy. Indy, who is known as a Vixen seems a little shady. What could she be up to? Would Jamell the drug Jock of Cleveland win this battle or are the cards stacked against him? Amonn Brothers POC Male Late/ Early 20s -- Known as the Heartbreaker, Amonn is at a crossroads. The long lasting friendship with ezra maybe over. After Locking lips with Ezra one dark night, Amonn Uses the Friendship as a gateway to explore his sexuality by projecting his sexual aggression onto the only true friend he has had in a while. His masculinity is in question, but only by him. Will Amonn come out of the suppression and make a new life for himself? What happens when he finds out about Ezra and this Mystery guy Tooth? We will start having guest speakers to attend our meetings and give us insights. Guest speaker: Mikhail Tot "I'm an Immigrant Filmmaker" Mikhail Tot is a writer, editor and director from Russia. He came to this county with he was 15 years old. He had passion for film since the young age. He won best filmmaker of 2017 by OEA (Ohio Entertainment Awards) and his team Render Gang won 48 hour horror project in 2018. (With other numerous awards). Mikhail will be talking about mistakes and problems some people face while making an independent project. An honest truth about his experience in film industry. For those showing: remember to bring either a laptop with hdmi out, playable DVD or Bluray or a FAT32 usb drive - if using USB Drive make sure the file is an Apple encoded mp4 max 1080 (not high bitrate). THE VELOCITY OF AUTUMN written by Eric Coble 80-year-old Alexandra finds herself in a showdown with her family over where she should spend her golden years. Armed with enough Molotov cocktails to take out the entire neighborhood, she is determined to remain in her Brooklyn brownstone...by any means necessary. Her estranged son Chris, tumbles onto the scene becoming an unlikely and ill-equipped mediator. Wonderfully touching and wickedly funny, this story touches on a sobering dilemma faced by families every day. Christopher (Male, 45-50, African American/Latino) - Alexandra’s son; a lost soul still looking to find meaning and purpose in his life; a gay New Age drifter; a desert rat who has been estranged from the family and living in New Mexico; very much his mother’s son, he is artistic, funny, highly sensitive and caring; just as combative as Alexandra, he is good with words and not one to easily back down; has always seen himself as the outcast black sheep and is looking to finally do something impactful in his life.
