Youth Theater presents A Christmas Carol: A 1930’s Radio Play

Join us this winter for an all new Revere Lamplighters Winter Theater Workshop! Your child will engage in activities that will teach them to be on stage and learn the tools of the actor including creativity, voice inflection and character development. This winter’s theme is 1930’s Radio Shows! Students will become familiar on what it was like to perform on live a radio show and will present the classic *A Christmas Carol: A 1930’s Radio Play*. The workshop is open to children ages 9 – 17. Space is limited to 20 participants and will play such roles as Narrator, Scrooge, Marley, Fezziwig and many more including Tiny Tim. Rehearsals will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm beginning October 16th – November 20th as well as November 24 & 26th from 9 am – 3 pm. Production weeks schedule will be determined. Rehearsals space will be Richfield Parks and Recreation, 3333 Brecksville Road, Richfield. Performance dates are November 30th, December 1st at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 2nd at 2:30 pm at the Fellowship Hall, Richfield. Even the overture gets an ovation in soon-to-be-touring ‘Hello, Dolly!’ Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, American Theatre Critics Association “Hello, Dolly!” is a star vehicle plain and simple. It has been since the original Broadway and London productions over 50 years ago. Thirty-eight seconds into the opening number of this always classy and now-classic musical, the likes of theater legends Carol Channing, Pearl Bailey, Mary Martin and Ethel Merman have entered the stage on a horse-drawn trolley as the marvelously self-assured Dolly Gallagher Levi. In the 2017 Broadway revival, Bette Midler raised the role’s sass quotient while her replacement, Bernadette Peters, offered a more endearing Dolly imbued with layers of charm and warmth. She was the polish, said The Washington Post, on Midler’s brass. She won the audience with her dimples, noted The New York Times, while Midler did so with a Cheshire cat’s grin. So the question to ask and answer at the opening of the Playhouse Square launch of the touring “Hello, Dolly!” is what kind of Dolly is Tony Award-winning actress Betty Buckley, the woman New York Magazine labeled “The Voice of Broadway” two decades ago? Best, Meredith Bruch The Department of Dance at Case Western Reserve University celebrates movement and innovation by leading off the 2018-19 season with Mosaics, a collection of new, revisited, and guest artist dance works on November 9, 10, and 15 - 17 at 8:00 pm and November 11 at 2:30 pm at Mather Dance Center on the CWRU campus. Showcasing the department’s successes with the use of new technologies, the program will feature the return of Gary Galbraith's visually stunning dance Imagined Odyssey as well as a new work marking another installment in his series of 'media rich' dance-works. Injecting high energy will be Caffeinated, the fast paced work by renowned choreographer Larry Keigwin contrasted by the grace of Nai-Ni Chen’s Bamboo Prayer. Caffeinated, choreographed by Larry Keigwin, is a zany and charming highly charged dance set to Philip Glass’s “Glasspiece # 3”. The work was commissioned by NYU’s dance department and was recently expanded by Jaclyn Walsh, Keigwin’s regisseur, for a cast of 13 CWRU dancers which includes graduate students and undergraduate dance majors. Returning to the Mather Dance Center stage is Bamboo Prayer, a dance for five women choreographed by Nai-Ni Chen that was commissioned by the Joyce Theater in New York where it premiered in 1998. Inspired by the beauty of bamboo, a plant abundant in Chen’s native Taiwan, the dance exudes strength, resiliency and grace embodied in women. Chen was in residency at CWRU for one week to set the dance in the Fall of 2017. Last year marked the first time a group other than Chen’s New York based company performed the work. Imagined Odyssey, created through a collaborative project with CWRU’s Interactive Commons and Gary Galbraith, artistic director of the Department of Dance, is receiving its encore performance due to its success and popularity with our patrons. The groundbreaking, narrative-based technology work utilizes live holographic imagery featuring Microsoft’s HoloLens, an augmented reality holographic headset. Members of the audience will wear HoloLens in order to watch the dancers and holograms move seamlessly on stage as the merging of choreography with holographic content and particles made entirely of light magically create the mysterious landscape of sets and props. These performances will again mark one of the largest numbers of people in the world to simultaneously experience a live holographic presentation using HoloLens. The unique collaboration draws upon the expertise of dancers, artists, illustrators, programmers, network engineers, and more. Galbraith’s new three-sectioned untitled work is another in his long line of media rich dance works. This new work set to haunting and intensely beautiful music finds Galbraith exploring responsive media with projection mapping in new ways to create colorful moving images projected onto dancers, the floor, and set elements. Ticket Information All performances take place at Mather Dance Center, 11201 Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve University campus.
