Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre announces auditions for BENT Located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS: In 1934 Berlin on the eve of the Nazi incursion, Max, a grifter and his lover Rudy are recovering from a night of debauchery with a SA trooper. Two soldiers burst into the apartment and slit their guest's throat, beginning a nightmare odyssey through Nazi Germany. Ranked lower on the human scale than Jews, the men as awoved homosexuals, flee. Desperate and on the run, Max asks his own "discreetly" homosexual Uncle Freddie for help as the older man offers little more than suggestions on how to live, as he does, practicing homosexuality on the side. Attempting their escape, Rudy is beaten to death as Horst, another homosexual prisoner, warns Max to deny his lover. Taken to a death camp at Dachau, Max and Horst branded with the "pink triangle", hope to survive with each other for comfort and courage but it is not to be. "Bent" is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC. We also ask that you bring a current headshot and resume with you to auditions. Rehearsals will begin on October 28th and will generally take place Sun-Thurs (lighter rehearsals toward the beginning. Heavier in December) Performances: January 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th at 8pm and January 6th at 2pm. CHARACTERS: Max (Male, 30s) - homosexual "wheeler dealer" who leads a dissolute life of drink, drugs, and sporadic sex until the horros of Nazi Germany intervene and effectively put an end to his hedonistic alcoholic life style; a tormented individual, tortured by the memory of his reprehensible actions, but never loses his basic humanity; not at all a coward, but rather a pragmatist. Horst (Male, 20s) - relatively muscular physique and a kind nature; a "pink triange", incarcerated in the death camps of Dacheu because of his homosexuality; a sensitive man, strongly affected by Max's torment. Rudy (Male, 30s) - bespectacled, homosexual dancer; rather gushy, effusive, homebody type who has a great love for Max and his precious household plants; tends to become a trifle hysterical at times. Greta (Male, late 30s) - a man dressed as a woman in a silver dress, top hat and cane; presents an appearance that is at once elegant and bizarre; tough, practical proprietor of a gay nightclub who entertains patrons by singing in a smoky seductive voice; Nazis' rise to power sends him back to his wife and kids. Uncle Freddie (Male, 50s) - aristocratic, well-dressed; Max's uncle, a "closet fluff" Wolf (Male, 30s) - gay man picked up by Max one drunken evening. Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre announces auditions for IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE Avenue Arts Marketplace & Theatre is located at 324 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton Ohio 44702 SYNOPSIS: In our American culture It's a Wonderful Life has become almost as familiar as Dickens' A Christmas Carol. The story is a natural for a stage adaptation: the saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty, whose guardian angel has to descent on Christmas Eve to save him from despair and to remind him—by showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born—that his has been, after all, a wonderful life. This faithful adaptation has all your favorite characters: George and Mary Hatch, Clarence, Uncle Billy, Violet, and, of course, the Scrooge-like villain, Mr. Potter. This fine dramatization not only celebrates the faith of the season, it also celebrates the American philosophy of life: hard work, fair play and the love and support of one's family and community will be rewarded. Only appears in Act I and II. Sir Danvers is the father to Diana, and she is is love with Dr. Jekyll. He is a very arrogant man. Schlegel can be harsh at times, but he ultimately cares for the well-being of the circus and its performers, including Lili whom he hires, fires and then rehires. MARCO THE MAGNIFICENT - A womanizing magician with a long-standing, but rocky relationship with Rosalie. Marco easily seduces Lili with his magic and is able to manipulate and entice her to join his act and fall in love with him. THE INCOMPARABLE ROSALIE - Marco's assistant and love interest. Rosalie is constantly jealous of Marco's relationships with other women - especially the innocent Lili. She is almost engaged to her long-distance suitor, Dr. Glass, but comes to her senses and runs away with Marco to perform their act in fine hotels across Europe. LILI - A young optimistic orphan who comes to the circus in hopes of finding a job. Lili is not the brightest girl and is easily influenced by the people who surround her, especially Marco the Magnificent. After a few failed attempts at other jobs, she ends up becoming the star of Paul's puppet show and must suffer through his biting insults and jealousy. PAUL BERTHALET - A lonely and bitter puppeteer whose dance career was shattered after suffering a crippling war injury. AUDITIONS ARE TOMORROW!!! The Buzzard Cove Screampark is looking for Haunt Actors for this Halloween Season! We will be holding an open audition tomorrow, 9/1 from Noon - 3pm in the open lot next to the Buzzard Cove mini golf and driving range located @ 1053 Bellus Rd Hinckley, Oh 44233. Signs will be posted indicating where to go. The Haunt will operate Thursdays through Sundays, 9/27-10/28. Thursdays and Sundays from 7pm -10pm Fridays and Saturdays from 7pm - Midnight. Questions, please email: buzzardcovescreampark(a)gmail.com About the main Haunt, we are looking for performers for...the theme is, well … Hell. Visitors will walk into a series of rooms that set the stage for a descent into the basement, where things get pretty bleak. A cult has taken over the Barn and released the forces of evil. In one room, you will find a fortuneteller, and the outlook is not good. Another room is full of mannequins dressed in all black conjuring demons. There’s a creepy doll room where all the occupants have no eyes. And in the barn’s basement is where true evil resides - one room has animal carcasses hanging from the ceiling and at the end the walls are covered in human skin (actually gallon after gallon of latex) and body parts.

Keith Stiver Stage Manager: Scott Jarvis THE STORY: Set in the newest "in" Manhattan restaurant, the play opens with an ethereal waiter preparing for the arrival of a party of four. Just as the two couples are about to enter, it magically begins to snow making the night perfect for a cozy after-theater supper. The two middle-aged couples, Marty and Terry, and Renee and Phil, old friends reuniting after three years, have just seen a new Broadway play. Shedding the formality of the theater, the four friends settle into the comfort of the restaurant, order cocktails and begin to reacquaint themselves. The years and distance separating them have changed them more than they thought. Discussing the play and playing catch-up leads to little arguments and major differences of opinion. More drinks are ordered and apologies ease the way into dinner over which are discussed sex, the wearing of fur, matters of health and problems with their children. Time and distance aside, these couples know each other very well and will always be close friends. A third couple, Emily and Matt, acquaintances of Marty and Terry, stop by the table to say hello. After introductions, they are convinced to stay for a nightcap even though Emily has already had too much to drink. The nightcap sends her over the edge, and when the recent tragic death of her son is brought up, the uncomfortable situation is made worse. Emily makes a drunken, public spectacle of herself, forcing Matt to all but carry her out of the restaurant. The ugliness of the moment is not lost on Marty, Terry, Renee and Phil, all of whom are deeply effected. Having shared painful secrets and made new discoveries about one another, the four put their disagreements and arguments behind them and forge ahead in friendship until next time.
