Call for Interpretive Dancers

Gordon Square Classical Concerts is currently seeking interpretive dancers for an outdoor concert at 4pm Saturday, September 22nd @ Herman Park in celebration of the Fall Equinox. Individual dancers/groups will receive a recording of the classical music for their dance in advanced. There is 10 minutes of music all-together for the dance portion of the concert. There will be one rehearsal at the park on Wed Sept 19th from 6pm-9pm, where dancers will run through their portion with live musicians as accompaniment (violin, viola, cello, soprano, and tenor). Dancers must be familiar with the music before the rehearsal. Pre-choreographed routines are acceptable. Artists are encouraged to keep the theme of "Fall Equinox" in mind for choices of movement and costuming. Interested persons/groups should e mail the composer, Ryan Charles Ramer to receive a recording of the music. Please keep in mind that the dances are taking place on the grass. Magical Theatre Company, Northeast Ohio’s professional resident and touring theatre for young audiences and families, is auditioning children for their resident productions: Flora & Ulysses, Prancer, Charlotte’s Web, and a joint project with the Akron Symphony. Looking for girls and boys ages 7 – 15 for roles in the above mentioned productions. All children must be able to be released from school for weekday performances. Auditions will be held at Magical Theatre Company on Tuesday, August 14 at 6:30pm. Contemporary Master Class with Amy Campbell on Saturday 2:30-4pm at Dance Studio M. Ages 16+. $10 with pre-registration www.clevelanddanceproject.com/workshop-registration.html $12 at the door. Amy Campbell is a NYC based dancer, choreographer, performer, teacher, director and producer. A native Ohioan, she received a BFA in dance and choreography from the Ohio State University, taught and choreographed competitive studio dance, and performed with multiple modern and dance theatre companies. Amy has also served as a advocate for our field by serving on Dance/NYC's Junior Committee for two years. Her work has been shown at Triskelion Arts, Dixon Place, University Settlement, and performance spaces, galleries, and nightlife happenings throughout the city. She has performed with many musicians, nightlife artists, and contemporary choreographers in her 10 years in the Big Apple, most notably Backspace Performance Ensemble, aemp:dance/Amiti Perry+Dancers, Kelly Donovan & Dancers, Yula and the eXtended family, and Fashion Week Noise. She was in house choreographer for the Mary Jo Camel Show, produced monthly happening, Hot Mess, and has also taught throughout the city, most notably at Gibney Dance. Her latest endeavors include making work under the moniker, Crooked Mouth, and contributing as a performing artist with both Inclined Dance Project and Megan Bascom and Dancers. When not dancing she can be found tending bar, hiding in Queens, and trying to keep up with all the things. Open Auditions - Ages 18+, All styles of dance! The story is a toast to their idealism and character and a little roast of their undying dedication to the classic family road trip. More specifically, it is the story of Don Browning, a middle-aged writer, who returns home and decides to finally take his father's ashes to his childhood home, as requested. But when Don discovers Grandma's house is now a grocery store, he begins traveling across Iowa searching for a proper resting place for his father. This father-and-son road trip shifts smoothly from the present to Don's memories of the annual, torturous vacations of his childhood. Don's existential journey leads him to reconcile his past and present at the center of the United States. Leaving Iowa is a postcard to anyone who has ever found himself or herself driving alone on a road, revisiting fond memories of his or her youth. When Eve Jones comes back in town for a high school reunion, Jacob Monroe finally gets his chance to get the girl he’s always wanted. Jacob has no idea how "street-wise" Eve has become. Eve’s childhood friend Missy is devastated about how far Eve has turned from her childhood upbringing in the church, but she is determined through prayer to help her friend. The best friend of Natalie is Jackie Haynes who is refusing to grieve or acknowledge the tragic auto accident that killed her baby sister Janet. When Pastor Lee is called to preach Sunday’s sermon, he realizes he must deal with his own demons. We all fall down at some point in our lives and the spiritual battle that goes on to win our souls is real.
