The Fine Arts Association announces auditions for: "Xanadu" Director - David Malinowski Musical Director - Eddie Carney About the Show: Xanadu follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California. in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time - the first ROLLER DISCO! (Hey, it's 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds. Xanadu is a moving, electrifying tale of endless fun that will keep audiences in stitches while the original legendary, chart-topping tunes lift them out of their seats. It gained critical acclaim when it premiered in England in 2014 and then made its American premiere in 2016 on Broadway with Frank Langela. "Andre' is a man facing persecution from all sides, and he refuses to take it any longer. First some girl, a "helper" -- whom he doesn't need at all -- steals his favorite watch. Then his daughter Anne, a scheming woman who worries too much, tries to take his flat away -- the beautiful flat he's had for over thirty years, in which he is still quite capable of living, thank you very much! His daughter Elise, the one he actually loves... where is she? She never comes to visit. Anne's husband -- or lover -- Pierre, with whom she is moving to London -- or staying in Paris -- threatens Andre with violence if he will not cooperate, and to top it off, strangers keep entering Andre's flat, telling him that they are his friends and family, telling him that he doesn't live in his flat anymore. Summer/Fall auditions are here and are you prepared? Dr. Christopher Hutton, Baritone, is taking new voice students and excited to get you physically and mentally prepared for auditions and performances. Dr. Hutton has a Masters Degree and Doctorate of Music Arts degrees in Vocal Pedagogy (Science of Singing) from Arizona State University, and is fluent in teaching both belting/music theatre technique and classical technique. Christopher attended Youngstown State University where he received his Bachelors in Voice Performance. He has also performed opera at regional opera houses for over thirteen years. 6 piece modern jazz and pop band is looking for a second lead female vocalist. Our current vocalist is a soprano (comfortable in C), so we are looking for someone to add range, harmony, and variety to our sound. We currently have bass, drums, keys, and guitar, in addition to one lead and one back up vocalist. Practices are in Mentor on Saturday evenings (6-8pm). The next meeting of the Songwriter Summit (fka: Summit County Songwriter Circle) will be held on August 6th at 2 Girls Cafe & Bakery, 3703 Darrow Road in Stow, OH. Our general meeting begins at 7 PM and is usually over by 9 o’clock. Meetings feature presentations of new songs or works in progress offered by members and non-members alike. You do not need to be a member to present a song and you do not need to be a writer to attend the meeting. Members discuss the songs, offer gentle critique and comment as requested by the performer. Songwriter Summit exists to connect songwriters throughout the area and has members that often travel from Pennsylvania and West Virginia to attend. Our musical tastes cover a wide variety of genres and styles and all are welcome.
