Weathervane Playhouse is set to take audiences Into the Woods AKRON- Get ready for an epic fairytale about wishes, family, and the choices we make as Weathervane Playhouse gets set to take audiences Into the Woods. James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning book and score take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless, enchanting, relevant, modern classic. Into the Woods plays in the Founders Theater from June 7 - July 1. Show times are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 - $26 and can be ordered by calling the box office at 330-836-2626 or going to www.weathervaneplayhouse.com<http://www.weathervaneplayhouse.com>. The Weathervane Playhouse production of Into the Woods is made possible by generous donations from SeibertKeck Insurance Partners and the Akron/Summit Convention and Visitor Bureau. The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone's wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results. During the run of Into the Woods, Weathervane is hosting a "Parents Night" on June 14. Parents can enjoy a night out to see the show and the kids will get to take a theatre class! Children ages 3-12 will enjoy different theatre games and activities with our professional Weathervane instructors. Kids will check-in at 7:00 p.m. and check-out right after bows! Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) announces Auditions for EVERYTHING IS OKAY (AND OTHER HELPFUL LIES) A World Premiere Musical at CPT. Created by Melissa Crum & Caitlin Lewins, 16/17 Nord Family Foundation Catapult Fellows. Directed by Matthew Wright. About the musical... This dark musical comedy is a celebration of the not-so-happy ways in which we persevere, grow, and change - whether we want to or not. Friendships are challenged, buddies die, and everybody drinks. Cheers. World Premiere. Looking to cast... Jackson* (African American Male) - late 20's, early 30's, a go-getter. Awkward yet loveable. Craves success and connection. Pablo* (Caucasian Male) - late 20's, early 30's, a struggling musician. Charming. And kind of a jerk. Is not Hispanic. His real name is Sam. *Ability to play instrument(s) a plus All other roles have been cast. Equity Agreements are not available for this production. About the process... Rehearsals for this production will begin in early August and will be 4-5 weekday evenings and one 5-6 hour rehearsal on the weekends. Because Pandemonium, CPT's annual benefit, falls in the middle of the rehearsal period, there will be a two-week break inside the rehearsal process. Tech will be the weekend of October 12. This production will have two public preview performances October 20 & 25, and will then rehearse until the opening night on Friday, October 26. Performances will be in the James Levin Theatre on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays at 7:00pm, October 20 - November 10. Audition... Saturday, June 9 from 12pm-4pm. Actors should be prepared to stay for one hour. Callbacks: Sunday, June 10 from 6pm-10pm. Actors should be prepared to stay for the duration. Auditions are by appointment only and will be scheduled in 5-minute increments. Actors will be sent sides to prepare. Actors should prepare a short a cappella song. Review of touring "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" at Playhouse Square

Returning ‘Beautiful’ tour still lives up to its title Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, American Theatre Critics Association In the opening moments of the national touring production of “Beautiful” – the 2014 Tony Award-winning show about the life, times and tunes of the artist Billboard magazine named the most successful and influential female songwriter of the last half-century – Sarah Bockel, as Carole King, is sitting at a grand piano. She is performing “So Far Away” with the singer’s impeccable clarity and signature sense of yearning. The Connor Palace Theatre is standing in for Carnegie Hall in 1971 and the Cleveland audience serving as surrogates for those lucky enough to have witnessed King’s first major concert. Midway through her performance, Bockel’s face lights up and her eyes seem to ask “how in the world did I get here?” The show, a top-notch jukebox musial, tells us how. We are offered insight into King’s Brooklyn-based upbringing courtesy of her consummate Jewish mother, Genie (Suzanne Grodner), her early songwriting career in the 1960s with collaborator/husband Gerry Goffin (Andrew Brewer), and the parallel careers of her friends and fellow hit-makers Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann (Sarah Goeke and Jacob Heimer). The show moves on to King recording her first solo album, “Tapestry,” and ends as it began with her performing at Carnegie Hall. Bockel’s journey was no less arduous or interesting. The result is a comic wordplay of poetry, dreamscapes, and nonsense, which has been interpreted as mankind’s inexhaustible search for meaning. and while waiting they encounter three other characters.Waiting for Godotis Beckett's translation of his own original French play,En attendant Godot, and is subtitled (in English only) "a tragicomedy in two acts. In a poll conducted by the British Royal National Theatre in 1990 it was voted the “most significant English language play of the 20th century”. Beckett’s play remains one of the most magical and beautiful allegories of our time. Rehearsals(5 per week: Mon-Thurs eve and Sunday afternoons) will commence on July 16, 6:30-9:30pm. Ashland University invites applications for 12 month Technical Director position starting August 1, 2018. MFA in Technical Theatre or BA/BFA with appropriate professional experience required. Experience with sound, electrics and welding helpful. Candidates must possess strong collaborative, instructional, organizational, communication and leadership skills and a commitment to mentoring undergraduate students. Manage day to day scene shop operations, equipment maintenance, engineering, implementation and installation of all scenic, lighting, and sound elements, draft shop drawings (Vectorworks), oversee undergraduate student crews and construction for two theatres and three main stage productions each year. Serve as facility manager for the theatre spaces and team-teach two tech theatre courses. Maintain production and rehearsal facilities, serve as master carpenter, and ensure a safe working environment. Ability to hire, train and manage work study students and student crews, and flexibility to work nights and weekends.
