We have one of the biggest swing dances in the area with over 150 people attending each month. Attendees have a variety of dance experience (including none) and come from all walks of life and ages. You will not need to bring a dance partner. We rotate partners during the dance lesson. How often do you get to meet 50-100 new people in under an hour? We provide the highest quality swing dance instruction from some of the nicest, most patient people you will ever meet. Our staff includes regional, national and international swing dance competitors (and winners) in multiple swing dance forms. WHAT - Open to the public swing dance WHEN - Friday, June 8th 8-12 WHERE - Lakewood Masonic Temple, 15300 Detroit Avenue WHO - Anyone may attend. No previous dance experience or partner needed. COST - Dances are $12 per person, $10 for students and seniors with a valid ID. $5 for first-timers. From 8-9pm Get Hep Swing instructors lead a beginner-friendly, jitterbug lesson. Remember, you do not need a partner. 9-12pm 3 DJs - Bill Mone, Bryan Hlavacek, and Valerie Salstrom will play a fun mix of music that is suitable for a variety of styles of swing dance including - jitterbug, Lindy, Balboa, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, St. Louis Shag, Carolina Shag and old-school West Coast Swing. We will mix it up and keep everyone happy and on the dance floor. You can expect straight up big band swing from the late 1920s until the early 1950s, jump blues, R & B, Motown, Soul, and traditional jazz. Want to hear a particular song? Give us a request and we will see what we can do. We welcome anyone to join us who has an interest in dance, music, socializing and fun. We don't care what your physical ability or size is, where you are in life, where you are on the spectrum of sexual or gender orientation, what color or creed, or non-creed, you are, you are welcome to join us! Are you a man who wants to learn how to follow or a woman who wants to learn how to lead? That's cool! This idea is not new to the swing dance scene. We are the easiest club to join. If you have an interest, you are in. :) We love spreading the gospel of swing dancing and we are excited to share the language and culture of this truly American, urban folk dance form with you. It is important for us to let you know that this dance style started in the African-American ballrooms of Harlem, New York in the late 1920s/early 1930s. This dance has a gritty earthiness that is incredibly empowering and joyful. We can't wait for you to experience this conversation of dance with us. Attire is anything from casual to dressy. The best shoes to wear are comfortable and will allow you to pivot and turn easily. We make learning to partner dance easy and enjoyable. Directed by: Kate Tonti We are looking for 3 male actors (2 actors in their mid-late 20s and one actor age 40 or older) to join the cast of the second production of our inaugural season. Audition Dates: Monday, June 18 and Tuesday, June 19 Time: 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Location: Twin Masks Performing Arts Center 9076 Church Street, Suite 2&3 Twinsburg, OH 44087 Telephone: 330-888-3211 Located between The Silent Mind (martial arts and yoga studio) and Wash N Dry Laundromat, on the Twinsburg Square, just west of the intersection of Routes 91 and 82. Performances: Friday and Saturday evenings 8:00 p.m. August 3, 4/ 10, 11/ 17, 18 Rehearsals: M-Thurs: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Beginning June 25 – no rehearsals over 4th of July holiday. Preparation: Please be prepared to read from the script. Prior familiarity with the script is helpful, but not required. The Story: Two brothers, Phillip, and older brother Treat, eke out a meager existence in their North Philly home. One day, Treat kidnaps a mysterious and wealthy businessman named Harold, who eventually turns the table on the brothers, and in a strange way, becomes their surrogate father, until events turn, with catastrophic consequences. Characters: Phillip: (late teens, early 20s) Sensitive, highly intelligent, possesses a child-like sense of humor, emotionally attuned to those around him, does whatever is necessary to avoid the wrath of his older brother, Treat. Treat: (Mid-late 20’s) A petty thief whose issues with abandonment lead him to create an environment in which his brother, Phillip, will not leave their house, let alone him. Easily prone to violent behavior, and possessing a short temper, Phillip is filled with fear that manifests itself as anger, almost all the time. Harold: (40+ years of age) a professional con man, who assumes the role of surrogate father to Phillip and Treat. Polished, sophisticated, glib and charming, Harold is a master at outconning the con. Over time, he develops a genuine affection for both young men whom he sees as younger versions of himself. Twin Masks Performing Arts Center, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is a new performing arts company based in Twinsburg, Ohio (conveniently located minutes away from I-480). Cleveland Public Theatre announces 2018/2019 New Play Development Request for Proposals Deadline for submissions is Monday, June 11, 2018 CPT's New Play Development CPT's mission is to raise consciousness and nurture compassion through groundbreaking performances and life-changing education programs. CPT's programming agenda is to produce work that is outside the mainstream, offering a much broader range of work available to the Cleveland public and expanding the impact and originality of theatre across the country. CPT strives to make work that is excellent, extraordinary, and nationally competitive. Our new play development programs are based on our years of experience, community input, and key principles of: focusing on artists; valuing diversity of approach, aesthetics, and perspective; and balancing impact with investment. We envision CPT as a nationally recognized hub for the development of new theatre that is extraordinary, edgy, and relevant. We hope to be a model for nurturing local talent in similar sized markets, the most regarded cultivator of new theatre for Cleveland audiences, a laboratory for promising research and investigation, and a launcher of nationally significant new plays. Some playwrights need a director to work with, others just need time in the rehearsal room with their ensemble, or a way to share a short fragment and get feedback. Between 1942 and 1945, J. Robert Oppenheimer gathered the most brilliant minds of the age at Los Alamos, New Mexico to create something awesome and terrible. The Manhattan Project - Cleveland Lab seeks to do the same for the Cleveland stage. We are Simply a Community of Like-minded Artists The Manhattan Project <https://www.facebook.com/TheManhattanProjectClevelandLab/> would like to dispel the vicious rumors that we are a cult that brainwashes our members into worshiping a divinely appointed leader. We are in fact a community of like-minded artists who meditate together, read and interpret the writings of our founder Zed Warren Zed, and pledge our finances, minds, and bodies towards achieving immortality for Master Zed. To combat these aspersions, we are creating a series of 10-minute plays all about how The Manhattan Project is Totally, Obviously, Certainly NOT a cult! The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects.
