It’s a new year and Arlene’s Broadway on Buffalo in Conneaut is starting 2018 out with a bang! Auditions are planned for two shows! “And Then There Were None” ABOB will hold auditions for the famous Agatha Christie mystery "And Then There Were None," based on the poem "Ten Little Indians," Jan. 7 and 8 from 6-8 p.m. Bring a list of potential rehearsal conflicts and be prepared to read from the script. Roles are available for eight men and three women of various ages. Performance dates are March 9-11 and 16-18. Director is Michael Mooney. “Jesus Christ Superstar” The theater will also host auditions for the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera "Jesus Christ Superstar" Jan. 7 from 3-6 p.m., Jan. 9 from 5-8 p.m., Jan. 21 from 3-6 p.m. and Jan. 23 from 5-8 p.m.. Please come prepared to sing 16-32 bars of a contemporary musical theater or pop/rock song in the style of the show. Performance dates are April 13-15 and 20-22. Cast is variable. Co-directors are Melissa Nielsen and Austin Blair. Arlene’s Broadway on Buffalo is is a fully modern theater set in a turn-of-the-century building located at 236 Buffalo Street in Conneaut, Ohio’s downtown area. Here is an opportunity to appear in the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific production at Olde Towne Hall Theatre in North Ridgeville, OH.While principal casting for South Pacific is close to set, Director Joy Van Keuren is looking for a few good men and women to serve. Open parts are seabees, sailors, marines, Polynesian natives (men and women), nuns and nurses. You should be able to carry a tune and move about the stage in relative grace for a few choreographed numbers and perhaps memorize a few lines. Your time commitment will be to attend rehearsals in January through February 15, 2018 and performances, February 16, 17, 23, 24, March 2, 3, 4, 9 and 10, 2018. Beginning Acting for Adults This class will explore the theory and practice of the basic tools of acting: body movement, vocal production, and imagination. This class will also include an introduction to character analysis, audition basics, monologue work, scene study, and improvisation. The class will culminate with a final performance in our intimate Dietz Theater. Wednesdays 7-9 p.m. Beginning February 7 (10 weeks) Advanced Acting/Scene Study This class will be the continuation of the Beginning Acting Class. The focus will be on continued scene and monologue work in an effort to strengthen acting skills, audition techniques, and the business of acting. The class will culminate with a final performance in our intimate Dietz Theater. Mondays 7-9 p.m. Beginning February 5 (8 weeks). Improvisation for Adults Explore and practice the skills and techniques required to perform short-form improvisation. The course utilizes the communal/ensemble exercises provided in Spolin's 'Improvisation for the Theatre' and other texts, to explore spontaneity and the creation of narrative improvisations. The course also explores concepts of character, behavior in the environment, creating the who? what? and where? of dramatic scenes, created from given circumstances. The course is primarily active and participatory in nature and culminates with a public performance based on this exploration and discovery. Tuesdays 7-9 pm starting February 6 (8 weeks) About the instructor: FRED GLOOR is currently the Associate Artistic Director and Marketing Director at Weathervane Playhouse. He has directed four shows at Weathervane: It's Only a Play, You Can't Take It With You, The Lyons and 4000 Miles. A graduate of Kent State University, Fred's other directing credits include Cleveland Public Theatre, Dobama, TitleWave, Charenton, The Second City Cleveland, CVLT, and Tri-C West. As an actor, he has performed at The Cleveland Play House, Great Lakes Theater, Dobama, The Beck Center, Cain Park, The Second City Cleveland, The Ensemble Theatre, and as a cast member of Something Dada. A member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA, he has appeared in numerous commercials and such films as The Dream Catcher and Pirates with Leslie Nielsen, Eric Idle, and Rodney Dangerfield. Adult Dance Class Get moving and challenge yourself at Weathervane Playhouse! This fun and interactive dance class will focus on varies styles including Jazz, Ballet, Tap, and Modern dance found in your favorite Broadway shows. Build your technique, learn choreography, and get some exercise. Bring your friends and have a great time! You can pay for the full 8-weeks or $30.00 a class. About the Instructor: LAUREN SPROWLS is a graduate of The University of Akron where she received her B.A. in Dance with a Business Cognate and will receive her MA in Arts Administration in May 2018. She has performed in a number of student choreographed projects, with The University of Akron Dance Company, and as a representative of Ballet in Cleveland, doing promotional performances and video shoots. Lauren has also participated in Akron Children's Hospital Dancing for the Kids fundraiser for the past four years. She shares her love for dance through dance education and has been teaching dance and other arts classes for almost 10 years. She has attended teacher conventions such as the Pulse convention in New York City and has taken many classes at BDC. She is always striving to be become a better teacher by continuing to educate yourself. She is currently the Education Director at Weathervane Playhouse and has supervised educational outreach programs, created curricula, established an arts ambassador program, and has coordinated performances with experience in the studio setting, in school programs, and with community organizations.

The Chagrin Valley Choral Union is a non-auditioned group of classical music enthusiasts who meet Sunday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm. We are searching for a leader who will continue the great work of our past conductors, most recently Dr. J. D. Goddard, who has led us since 2005. 1. Duties and responsibilities a. Selection of pieces from the choral literature, which express the organization’s mission statement: To perform choral masterworks of the past and occasionally debut new works which replicate the style of these masterworks, for the enrichment of the community. b. Teaching and enabling singers to meet and exceed their musical goals through instruction, repetitive practice and example. c. Advising the Board of Directors as an ex-officio member, offering assistance on a variety of subjects, such as choosing concert venues, membership policies and fundraising efforts. 2. Qualifications a. At least one year conducting a choral group of similar nature – knowledge and experience in a classical repertoire is required. b. Commitment to a weekly rehearsal schedule from the beginning of September 2018 to the beginning of May 2019. These dates are an estimate based upon the 2 concert dates, holiday schedules, etc. 3. Salary and compensation a. The Artistic Director is compensated per concert, not by a monthly or weekly salary. b. Compensation will be determined for each individual candidate, commensurate with experience. c. Certain expenses can be reimbursed with the consent of the Board of Directors. *Magic and Showmanship Instructions!* Jack Palur, professional magician and director in the Northern Ohio area for the last 45 years, is now taking additional students in performance magic and showmanship. This course is appropriate for all ages, from as young as eight years old, to professionals, (including actors, teachers, and other performers), who want to expand their skills. Classes are scheduled as hour-long sessions, teaching the basics of close-up magic, including the use of every day objects, utility moves to develop dexterity and lessons on building a magic act, as well as showmanship and the fundamentals of magical performance. The curriculum is adjusted for each student's needs. Each participant will learn many slight of hand routines, as well as parlor magic, street magic, comedy magic, mind-reading, the business of getting booked, and other forms of popular prestidigitation. This is a one-on-one instruction course on how to become a magician or a better performer. Mr. Palur has been teaching this mini-course in schools and libraries in the Northern Ohio area for over twenty years! He has taught for Young Audience's "ArtWorks" program in University Circle and the Boy Scouts of America, as well as many individual performers that have gone on to book their own shows! Broadway and Recording Artist MAUREEN MCGOVERN is joining the North Coast Men’s Chorus to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. NCMC will start the evening off and then Maureen will thrill you with some of her favorite songs, joined by the men of NCMC on several selections! Gaining fame for cinematic themes like Oscar-winners, /The Morning After/ and /We May Never Love Like This Again/, Maureen has continued to dazzle with a 45 year career of recordings, concerts, theater, film, television, radio and songwriting.
