LCCC Presents Civic Orchestra Concert

LCCC Presents Civic Orchestra Concert Lorain County Community College Arts and Humanities division's Civic Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 11 in the Hoke Theatre of Stocker Arts Center. Robert Beckstrom, the orchestra's music director, has chosen three engaging pieces. The concert will begin with Igor Stravinsky's clever Jeu de Cartes (Game of Cards) which was composed in 1936 as a ballet. The original ballet had the dancers costumed depicting a card game. His music has hints of familiar works as if they are seen in a broken mirror. It is both sophisticated and fun-loving. Elyria's own, Allison Roza Evans is returning home as the featured soprano soloist in Sanuel Barber's Knoxville: Summer 1915. Composed in 1948, this piece is a setting of the James Agee text that recalls an evening in his childhood, told from the child's point of view. The music is distinctly American. Evans, an Elyria High School graduate, is an accomplished soprano with vocal degrees from the Boston Conservatory. She is currently based in Chicago. The evening's finale will feature Edvard Grieg's Norwegian Dances, Op 35. Originally a piece for two pianists, the work's four lively dances demonstrate the composer's gift for creating engaging tuneful music. General admission for adults is $9 for adults. Cameneti Films is casting a paid commercial for Walsh University. Looking for male in 30's: Any Ethnicity for a 30 second spot. Here is the Script: "When I decided to finish my degree I thought where do I start? I was working full time, taking care of the kids. I chose Walsh University’s School for Professional Studies because they weren’t just another pop up online university. People know and respect Walsh. I got 45 hours of college credit right off the bat for my work experience. My classes were online but the one-on-one support was what really got me to graduation. These days, everybody’s fast and convenient, but not everybody takes the time to check in and show you, you’re the one they care about. That’s the difference." For the Audition: Script must be memorized and talent will be speaking off camera like he is talking to a director. He will also be interacting with a little girl (his daughter) for B-roll. Cleveland Winds

Cleveland Winds is in the process of getting established as a non-profit so that we can pursue grants and other financial opportunities. We will have some expenses for our upcoming Severance Hall performance (Sunday January 28). We will need to give a deposit of $500 to the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony in about a month, and we will owe them an additional $1000 on the day of our performance. We will have two ways to come up with the funds: 1) We have established a GoFundMe account. See below. 2) We will have 100 tickets to the Severance Hall performance that we can sell for $10/each, and all of that money will go toward covering our expenses. Cleveland Public Theatre presents the 2017 CPT / Y-Haven Theatre Project: GOLDEN<http://www.cptonline.org/performances/seasons/2016-2017/y-haven-theatre-pro…> Formerly homeless men in transition create a new theatre piece based on their journeys toward recovery NOVEMBER 2 - 5 (Thu/Friday/Sun) Cleveland Public Theatre and Y-Haven present Golden, created and performed by the residents of Y-Haven, a branch of the Greater Cleveland YMCA. A nineteen-year partnership between the two organizations, the project introduces theatre arts to formerly homeless men recovering from substance abuse and mental health challenges. As they work with CPT artists to create an original performance based on their personal experiences, participants develop skills and capacities that support their sobriety and transition to employment, permanent housing and independent living. PLOT SUMMARY - Golden What happens when old buddies rekindle their friendships after 5 years of disconnection? Craig is back in town seeking support through a family emergency. While out fishing, the friends reel in a mysterious lockbox from the bottom of the lake. When the box is unlocked and gold is revealed, motives are questioned, desire overpowers, and haunting stories emerge as relationships fray. Golden is a compelling original play exploring the cost of greed, the calling of friendship, and how stories shape our existence and connect us to our humanity.
