ANNIE GET YOUR GUN scored a bulls eye when it returned to Broadway in 1999, starring Bernadette Peters and sporting a revised libretto by Tony, Oscar and Emmy winner Peter Stone. As Newsday reported, Stone's revisions 'are sweetly ingenious, and the show is a dream.' Stone reshaped the 1946 book to create a Wild West show-within-a-show that frames the ageless 'Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better' love story of sharpshooters Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. Stone has added a secondary romance between the younger sister of Frank's bothersome assistant Dolly, and a boy who is (to Dolly's horror) part Native American. 'The book has been updated in ways that pass p.c. muster,' reported Time Magazine, 'without losing all the fun.' Joined to the new book, of course, is that amazing Irving Berlin score, featuring hit after hit after hit. 'Irving Berlin's greatest achievement in the theater,' wrote the New York Post, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN 'will always be a musical for the ages, one of the Broadway theater's enduring triumphs.' June 23, 2017 *FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE* *PLAYERS GUILD THEATRE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR SEASON OPENING MUSICAL, MEMPHIS.* CANTON, OH – Players Guild Theatre Producing Artistic Director, Joshua Erichsen, is pleased to announce that the Guild is making preparations to present the four-time Tony Award-winning musical MEMPHIS. Auditions for this season opening musical will be held on June 25 and 26, 2017. MEMPHIS: Winner of four Tony Awards® including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book and Best Orchestrations. Based on actual events, MEMPHIS takes place in the underground clubs, radio stations, and recording studios of the segregated 50’s, where a young white DJ named Huey Calhoun falls in love with rock and roll and an electrifying African American singer Felicia Farrell. MEMPHIS paints a gritty and honest picture of the racial tension and cultural revolution that erupted when his vision met her voice, and the music that changed forever. Filled with high-octane dancing, songs that perfectly capture the era, and an absorbing and emotional tale of fame and forbidden love. MEMPHIS will be directed by Jon Tisevich, with choreography by Michael Lawrence Akers and music direction by Steve Parsons. Auditions will be held at the Players Guild Theatre, located at 1001 Market Ave., N., in the Cultural Center for the Arts, on Sunday, June 25th with available audition time slots at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, 5:30 and 6:00 PM, and again on Monday, June 26th at 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00 and 8:30 PM. Dance Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, June 27th and Principal Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, June 28th. Actors are asked to please prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre song that best showcases their vocal ability, and bring the corresponding sheet music in the appropriate key. An accompanist will be provided. Any stitchers out there looking for some summer cash? Housework, Etc., a cleaning service located in Bay Village, needs to hire someone to make work aprons for its staff. They have the prototype, and need 16 additional aprons made - there is some flexibility in terms of timing, so it could be all 16 aprons right away, or it could be a few now, then additional sets every couple of weeks, or whatever works for you. It's a pretty simple pattern - lots of straight seams. Theatre in the Circle, the only semi-professional community theatre located in University Circle, closes its inaugural season with a musical about marriage—everybody’s marriage—"I Do! I Do!". The production is directed by Theatre in the Circle Artistic Director Bill Corcoran. It stars Angela Mitchell and Mason Stewart. I Do!
