GREAT NEWS! - Do you want to spend half a day, every day (five days a week) for two years - studying theatre - during school hours? YOU CAN STILL JOIN: There are still 4 slots open at the Academy for the Performing Arts for any student who will be a Junior in the fall of 2017. Sorry, no first year Senior slots are available. ELIGIBLE SCHOOLS: If you attend any of the following schools, you are eligible to attend free of charge. West Geauga, Aurora, Solon, Chagrin Falls, Orange, Beachwood, Mayfield South Euclid/Lyndhurst, Richmond Heights, Willoughby/Eastlake. WHAT IS THE ACADEMY? The Academy for the Performing Arts is a college preparatory program of Excel Technical Education Career Consortium, currently in it’s tenth season, serving the ten school districts in the Mayfield Consortium. All classes and performances take place at Chagrin Falls Performing Arts Center. This unique half-day workshop will present HAIRSPRAY JR. in one special performance, August 12, on the set of the Mercury Theatre Company’s August production of HAIRSPRAY. Designed for students ages 8-12, the program is a three-week intensive workshop, July 24 – August 11, in which students will expand and hone their theatrical skills in a creative and safe environment. KID COMPANY’s HAIRSPRAY JR. workshop allows you to explore your inner actor while gaining valuable life skills in a positive, supportive environment. Professional actors from the 2017 MTC Company will lead daily workshops designed to instill a deeper understanding about producing and participating in a first-class musical. It's 1962, and spunky, plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, has one big dream – to dance on the popular "Corny Collins Show." When she finally gets her shot, she's transformed from social outcast to sudden star.
