CPT Announces Request for Proposals: DanceWorks 2018

Cleveland Public Theatre Request for Proposals DanceWorks 2018 Deadline for submissions is July 10th, 2017. DanceWorks 2018 is an important part of Cleveland Public Theatre's 2017-2018 Season. DanceWorks offers Northeast Ohio dance companies and choreographers the opportunity to have world premiere works presented in a series with other local dance companies. Through a submission process, CPT hopes to select 2 - 4 dance companies to be part of DanceWorks 2018 in the Gordon Square Theatre. This year CPT is only accepting submissions for groups to perform half of a double bill. Groups that share an evening will share revenue, rehearsal time and technical time. Each pair of groups will have access to the Gordon Square Theatre for one week: Monday through Wednesday for load-in and rehearsal, and Thursday through Saturday for performances. We are accepting submissions for four weeks that will feature local companies: May 14th - 19th, May 21st - 26th, May 28th - June 2nd and June 4th - 9th. The Gordon Square Theatre will be set-up with a repertory lighting plot suitable for dance. Companies may alter that set-up; however, they then take full responsibility for implementing the alterations and restoring the space to its original state directly following their final performance. It is up to each project to provide its own artistic collaborators and additional technical staff as needed. CPT will provide a series stage manager, as well as box office and house management staff. CPT produces a direct mail brochure advertising the DanceWorks series. However, it is up to the individual companies to promote their own show. CPT will do what we can to assist dance companies' marketing efforts. Each selected group will receive a minimum guarantee of $750 against a box office split of 30% for the dance company. For example if a project makes $2000 at the box office, the project will keep the $750 guarantee. If the box office is $4000, the project will get a total of $1,200, an additional $450 over the original $750. Ticket prices for DanceWorks range from $12 - 30. Selection: The purpose of DanceWorks is to serve new work by established and emerging dance companies and choreographers in Cleveland. DanceWorks seeks to represent a diversity of forms, genres and aesthetic values. We want to create an environment where companies can boldly experiment and stretch beyond their past repertory. Performances should be comprised of at least 50% world premiere work. DanceWorks performances should be high quality work and be well thought out, rehearsed and prepared. Major factors in selecting works are capability, impact and quality. Companies should demonstrate that they have experienced personnel capable of independently managing your production needs, including sound, lighting and stage. CPT is looking for companies that can organize their needs and resources in an effective way that allows them to be fully prepared. CPT expends a great deal of resources to make DanceWorks happen, and we are looking for projects for which DanceWorks will provide a significant impact both on the company that is performing and on our audience. “Teen Angels,” my truth-based, edgy drama is available for production, and I am seeking a filmmaker with a vision akin to my own with whom to collaborate as equal partners. – (age 25-35 with hip hop acumen and ease with Ebonics and Spanish is a plus.) With a mixed gender and culturally diverse cast of nine, a single set, just one scene and a running time of 90 minutes, “Teen Angels” features a barrage of in-your-face dialogue and pure provocation. In essence, it’s “The Breakfast Club” redux and on steroids. Moviegoers, particularly ages 16 – 26, are in store for lots of bang for their buck with this one; it brazenly holds absolutely nothing whatsoever sacred: family values, the law of the land nor, especially, authority figures of all stripes. The story takes place in a day room at Los Angeles County Juvenile Hall now and focuses on a very unique group therapy session, for which the closest comparison is a no-rules-ultimate-fighting-cage-match, led by social worker and ‘50’s movie-cowboys aficionado , Mel Feinberg, 26, self-described as “a wise ass on a short leash.” The posse consists of seven inmates, all of them age 17, awaiting sentencing and quivering in a melodramatic display of mock fear of Dr. Crabtree, Afr. Am., the facility’s director, staunch advocate of force feeding her charges the gospel by any means necessary. As a side bar, we are drawn into the kids’ compelling histories of victimization and mind-blowing mayhem through a succession of brutally honest monologues. Their pain has a long shelf life, and it demands to be felt. We cheer them on, as they fight the power with fearless Mel out front and only the strong left standing. My other work includes the memoir, *Hollywood Raw*, and “On the Wall,” an urban drama, presented by L.A.’s Barnsdal Gallery Theatre. In addition, “Hotel California,” my psychological thriller; “Hollywood Cowboy,” my comedy; and “Cue the Sunset,” my Bronx tale - (all read at Cleveland’s Ensemble Theatre) – put my stamp on a multitude of theater patrons’ must-see lists. Beck Center for the Arts' Theater Department kicks off our summer session of theater camps on Monday, June 12! We've got camps for ages 7-19, including focuses in improv, acting and musical theater. Broadview Heights Spotlights’ Summer Youth Musical:Disaster! This year, theBroadview Heights Spotlights’ summer youth production is Disaster!, a hysterical homage to 1970’s disaster movies such as The Poseidon Adventure, Airport, The Towering Inferno, and Jaws. Written by Seth Rudetsky and JackPlotnick, the show features over 30 classic rock and disco hits from theera. A cast of 21talented teenage performers adeptly bring this show and their borrowedcharacter-types to life. There’s thejilted lover, a singing nun, a sleazy real estate developer, a geologyprofessor, and an aging lounge singer with twin children. Principal cast members include NicholasBeiser, Delia Brennan, Kate Brierley, Kyla Burks, Nicholas DeAngelis, ZoeDouglas, Clay Hoffner, Alicia Pedraza, Ellie Ritterbusch, Cole Tarantowski, andNathan Weagraff. Members of the ensembleinclude Ariel Brinker, Clorise Busch, Audrey Halvorson, Charlie Ligus, MollyMolina, Declan Newton, James Newton, Josh Pedraza, Emma Rosberil, and NickTalion. Tim Anderson servesas the director of this production and is aided by the creative collaborationof Maggie Majercik as choreographer, Ryan Bergeron as music director, StephanieGiammarco as costumer, and Charlie Jones as lighting designer. Adam Bowers serves as producer. The Spotlights’production marks the Ohio-premiere of this musical, which ran on Broadway in2016 starring Faith Prince, Adam Pascal, Roger Bart, and show-creator, SethRudetsky. The show contains some maturethemes and innuendo and has a PG-13 rating. The show runs June 22 – July 2, 2017.
