Our senior company will have intensive technique training in the morning in dance, music and theater and will put that technique to work in the afternoon as they rehearse for a fully produced show. Students will work with some of the best talent in Northeast Ohio as they train with a professional Director, Voice teacher and Dance Instructor. *THERE IS STILL TIME TO REGISTER* HATHAWAY BROWN THEATRE INSTITUTE SUMMER TRAINING - 2017 Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute (HBTI) , now in it's 5th year, offers performing arts training and professional production experiences for young people from first grade through college. HBTI, a part of the Performing Arts Department at Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, offers young people a challenging curriculum of drama, dance and/or music, as well as the opportunity to participate in fully staged productions. HBTI boasts instructors who are some of the top professional actors, directors, designers and academics in the area, and who have a long list of successful former students who have gone on to Broadway, film and television. HBTI faculty for 2017 season include Tess Burgler, Jenny Burnett, India Burton, Anjanette Hall, T.J.Hanley, Dan Hendrock Bebe Weinberg Katz, John Krol, Joe Pine, R.Scott Posey, Austin Riley, Bob Russell, Rebekah Sharpe, Katie Zarecki and Ryan Zarecki. Directing the main stage productions will be Bebe Weinberg Katz ,Fred Sternfeld, and Dan Hendrock with music direction by John Krol, scenic design by T. Paul Lowry, sound design by Carlton Guc and costume design by Jackie Guerra HBTI offers programs on three levels: PRIME( grades 1-4) :and PERFORMING ARTS TRAINING: Middle (grades 5 – 8) Upper (9th- college). Sessions One and Two are each 3-week long and Sessions Three is for 2 weeks. Session start dates are June 19, July 10 and July 31st respectively. Director Bebe Weinberg Katz said, "While the training at HBTI is geared toward the young performer interested in a professional theatre career, our students gain the confidence, discipline and social skills that will help give them the extra edge in this highly-competitive world, no matter what their eventual field of pursuit. The students also find the process immensely *FUN, *exciting, rewarding and a great place to make life long friends." Since 2013 Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute (HBTI) has been the summer theatre home for more than 600 students who have taken classes and workshops in acting, musical theatre and dance and nearly 300 of its students have been involved in HBTI's highly acclaimed productions. These productions have received numerous broadwayworld.com nominations. Last summer’s production of *Into the Woods* won for “best theatre production for young audiences.” Past productions of *Rent-School Edition *and *You're a Good Man Charlie Brown *has also taken home this award. HBTI will also mount two full productions: *Children of Eden, *directed by Bebe Weinberg Katz, with associate direction by Fred Sternfeld ( June 30-July 9) and *Side Show, *directed by Dan Hendrock (July 28 – August 6). HBTI productions are a direct extension of the training. "Our shows allow the students to apply the tools and techniques they learn during the day in productions mounted by top professional directors and designers." Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at the Hope Church Auditorium, 6941 Columbia Rd., Olmsted Falls. You will be entertained for two hours with singing and dancing to songs from Patsy Cline to Pentatonix! Tickets are $15.00 at the door - remember this is a benefit!!! There will be a raffle basket and a 50-50 drawing - so bring some extra cash! Great Lakes Theater’s brand equity sorely missing from doo-wop driven ‘Forever Plaid’ Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics A lightweight jukebox musical is the last thing one would expect from the same theater company that just dared to double-cast a female in the title role of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” And jukebox musicals don’t regularly appear on the resume of the director who recently staged the story of axe wielding double-murderess Lizzie Borden. But currently on the Great Lakes Theater stage under Victoria Bussert’s direction is the corny and contrived “Forever Plaid,” sans the brand equity that typically accompanies productions by Cleveland’s classic company and without the ingenuity typical of its top-tier director.
