Educator Community Night: Preview our 2017 Tour

Open to all educators or other community leaders (librarians, PTA members, community organizers) with an interest in knowing more about the Talespinner Children's Theatre Educational Outreach Tour, "The Brementown Musicians." This past year, Talespinner Children's Theatre's fifth season, has meant growing the scope of our touring production, expanding our educational and outreach programming, and forging community partnerships with the Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland, The Centers for Families & Children, and The Children’s Museum of Cleveland. Moving into 2017, we look forward with great anticipation to adding to the number of schools, libraries, and family groups that we will be able to share our arts education programs with, in so many ways. Join us on February 9th, 2017 at our home in the Reinberger Auditorium for a pre-show reception including light refreshments, and a performance of our 2017 touring production, "The Brementown Musicians," (which runs approximately 25 minutes) accompanied by a talk-back with myself, the actors and creative team. This event should prove to be a light-hearted, informative, and imaginative way for you to sit back and relax, and to get to know us better. The reception will begin at 6pm, and The Brementown Musicians will begin at 7pm. Magnificat High School hiring Technical Director for *A Midsummer Night's Dream, *performing March 31, April 1-2, 2017*. *Position to begin immediately. "This is NOT About My Dead Dog” combines reflections on love, sex, and alcohol with loud out-loud stories from an awkward girlhood. Tackling German shepherds, boyfriends, and other attachments, playwright/performer Amy Schwabauer takes the audience through her journey from lonely child to young partier to (relatively) well-adjusted adult. This comedic one-woman show is part pain journal and part offbeat rumination on aquatic life. It is heartbreaking, but always bracingly honest and funny. “This is NOT About My Dead Dog” was developed in Playwrights Local’s inaugural Play Lab new-work incubator in 2016, with initial dramaturgy by Arwen Mitchell and production dramaturgy by Dale Heinen. “We’re looking to spotlight new local talent, and Amy Schwabauer fits the bill on multiple fronts,” says David Todd, Artistic Director of Playwrights Local. “This play is a brave look at her own life, one that digs deep and challenges Amy as a writer and performer. In addition to all of her comic charms, Amy has found another gear for being moving and profound with this show. We’re happy to produce such an engaging new dramatist.” Amy Schwabauer’s writing credits include “Fluff Pup” (2015 Cleveland Playwrights Festival), “The Bird Behind the Curtain” (Cleveland State University), and “The Accounts of the Warren County Fair as Observed by a Young Astronaut.” As a performer, she has recently appeared in Positive Reinforcements (Theater Ninjas), Snake Oil (Ohio City Theatre Project), and Left in Ink (Cleveland Public Theatre). Director Dale Heinen has been recognized by the Jeff Awards in Chicago and has received the Arches Award for Directors in Glasgow. She has directed thirty professional productions in additional cities such as London and New York, and has developed new plays at Soho Theatre (London), Silk Road Rising (Chicago), Cleveland Public Theatre, and Chicago Dramatists. The stage manager for “This is NOT About My Dead Dog” is Nicola Patton, and the production manager is Francesca Mamlin. The creative team consists of lighting designer Stephanie Kahn, set designer Elaine Hullihen, and sound designer James Kosmatka. The assistant director is Nora DeMilta. “This is NOT About My Dead Dog” runs January 13 through 28, 2017, with shows Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. All performances are at the Creative Space at Waterloo Arts (397 E. 156th Street, Cleveland, OH 44110). The response to A Celebration of Dance and Music, which premiered October 11, 2016 at the Ohio Theatre proved so strong, Cleveland Ballet will remount the entire evening at Playhouse Squares Hanna Theatre on January 27, 2017. This evening includes a program of original, dances that enhance Cleveland Ballets quickly growing repertoire. Artistic Director, Gladisa Guadalupe conceived the shape of the program and choreographed most of the dances. Guest choreographer Ramón Thielen choreographed one of the evenings show-stopping dances titled The Cycle of My Love. Cleveland Ballet looks to separate itself from traditional ballet companies by moving its musicians from the orchestra pit to the stage. As we build our company of dancers and group of artistic collaborators, says Guadalupe, we are looking for ways to create a look unique to Cleveland and Northeast Ohio A Celebration of Dance and Music shows audiences how the fluidity of dance and a musicians grace complement each other.
