Beck Center for the Arts Youth & Teen Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth Theaters in the country, will be holding auditions on January 8 & 9, 2017 for the third production of our 68th Anniversary Season: CARRIE the musical Music by Michael Gore, Lyrics by Dean Pitchford Book by Lawrence D. Cohen Based on the novel by Stephen King Direction by Jonathan Kronenberger Musical Direction by Larry Goodpaster Choreography by Katie Zarecki The Story: Carrie White is a misfit. At school, she is an outcast who is bullied by the popular crowd, and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she's at the mercy of her loving, but cruelly over-protective mother. But Carrie's just discovered she's got a special power, and if pushed too far, she's not afraid to use it ... Audition/Callback dates: (open to Beck Center students ages 12 to 19*) Saturday, January 7: 2:30-5:30pm & Sunday, January 8: 1:00 to 4:00 pm Callbacks: Monday, January 9 between 5:30 - 8:00pm Interested actors may sign up for a one-hour audition slot at Beck Center Customer Service or by calling 216-521-2540 x10. *Please note: Youth/Teen Theater roles are only eligible to students who will be enrolled in our Winter/Spring 2017 semester. Actors do not need to be enrolled at the time of the auditions, however, participation in the actual production does require Beck Center enrollment. Students do not need to be specifically enrolled in a Theater class at Beck Center to qualify. Students who will be enrolled in a Winter/Spring 2017 semester class in Beck Center's Dance, Music and Visual Arts Departments are equally eligible. Bottom line: if you are accepting a role in the show, you will need to enroll prior to the start of rehearsals. Unlike some other youth/teen theaters, there is NO additional participation fee required beyond enrollment. What to Prepare: Actors are asked to prepare the following (Memorization is strongly encouraged): * A musical theater song, either up-tempo or ballad, up to one minute long. An accompanist is provided. Sheet music is encouraged. * A dramatic monologue, up to one minute long. Potential Rehearsals: February 6 - March 18, 2017 * Mon, Tue, Weds, Thurs, Fri: between 5:30 - 9:00pm * Saturdays: between 2:30 - 6:00pm * Sundays: between 1:00-4:30pm This is the earliest date we would start. The show will NOT be rehearsing every day or the full time range listed. The team will pick the days that best accommodate everyone's schedules - once conflicts and availability are known for the above dates. Tech Week: March 19 - 23, 2017 * Sunday from 1:00 - 9:00pm and Weeknights between 5:00 - 9:30pm All cast members are expected to attend ALL rehearsals during Tech Week. David Fuller: Has been teaching voice in Geauga and eastern Cuyahoga counties since 1995. He holds a Master of Music degree in applied voice from the Boston Conservatory of Music. He is currently the Coordinator of Liturgical Music for the Church of St Anselm in Chesterland and the Director of Music for the Fairmount Center for the Arts. . East Cleveland Theater (ECT) is hosting auditions for “Lend Me a Tenor”, written by Ken Ludwig. We are seeking 4 men and 4 women for this show. *Synopsis:* When a world class tenor comes to Cleveland, lives, loves, and relationships are turned upside down, resulting in a comedy farce that no one should miss. *The Roles:* *Henry Saunders*: The Cleveland Grand Opera's general manager. Father to Maggie. A blowhard who often loses his temper at the slightest mishap. *Max*: Saunders' long-suffering assistant, who is forced to take Tito's place in the role of Othello. *Maggie Saunders*: Saunders' daughter, and Max's girlfriend. She has a great admiration for Tito. *Tito Merelli*: The world's most renowned opera tenor, and notorious ladies man. *Maria*: Tito's long-suffering wife, with an "Italian temper". Leaves Tito early in the play, but ultimately returns to him. Loves Tito, despite his philandering. *Diana*: The opera's ingenue soprano, who is "flinging her way" to the top. A seductive woman (and she knows it). *Julia*: Chairwoman of the Cleveland Opera Guild, who considers herself a "grande dame." She wears a silver dress which, Saunders says, makes her look "like the Chrysler Building." *The Bellhop*: A comic relief character who has an ongoing feud with Saunders. An obnoxious opera fan, the Bellhop keeps showing up at the hotel suite at the wrong moment, trying to get an autograph and a photo of Tito Merelli. Saunders ends up chasing the Bellhop around the hotel suite, and trying to strangle him. *Director: Megan Thompson* Megan Thompson is Executive Director of Great Lakes Light Opera, and has directed and performed in numerous shows. *Audition Dates:* Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 1 to 4pm. She also performed in the ensemble and understudied Elphaba in the 2nd national tour of Wicked. Natalie was an American Idol season 4 semi-finalist, has performed the National Anthem at Cowboys & Shea Stadium, but is most well known for her Youtube videos. She has gained an international following from her performance videos & popular web series, “Breaking Down The Riffs,” which have collectively reached over 3 million views. He is a current member of the FiveOne Experimental Orchestra and a regular performer with the Arts and Medicine Institute at the Cleveland Clinic. He is the first person to perform the solo version of Steve Reich’s Piano Phase by simultaneously playing both piano parts on two pianos. He has performed and recorded with several other Cleveland and NYC artists including Parson James, Grace Love, Sandra Bernhard, Herzog, Expecting Rain, Leonard DiCosimo and Margot B. He has written music for American Greetings’ e-cards and several award-winning short films including PheMIMEnon and Game On.
