REQUIREMENTS A love of working with children and teens. <> Thirst for learning about developmentally appropriate instruction for students. <> Clear understanding of basic music theory applications as appropriate for individual students. Comfortable interacting with parents and children alike. Willing to make year-long teaching commitments. Comfortable using computer systems for office documentation, record keeping, social media, e-mail, etc. Comfortable with online learning and using web-based technologies. BA in Music, Bachelor of Music, or post-graduate degree is a plus. Mastery of pedagogy is a plus. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION You will have a consistent schedule each week, will write and know your lesson plans, and will follow up with student families to make sure you are meeting their needs. With a little help from his friends, a knack for decoding dreams and a certain extravagantly pigmented jacket, watch the original underdog come out on top in this musical sensation. Jacob: The father of twelve sons, his favorite being Joseph. At times he may appear unfair and shallow, but he is, more importantly, the prophet who recognizes the future and the calling of Joseph, thus saving the House of Israel. Joseph: Eleventh son of Jacob. Obviously his father’s favorite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. This gets him into trouble with his brothers when he predicts his future will include ruling over the other eleven. However, it saves his life when in Egypt he correctly interprets Pharaoh’s dreams. In the end he has risen to a great position of power, but he still forgives his brothers and brings his family to Egypt to partake of the bounty he has accumulated there. Potiphar: A powerful and rich Egyptian, Potiphar purchases Joseph and puts him to work in his household, where he soon realises that Joseph is honest, hard-working, and a great addition to his pool of help. When he grows suspicious of Mrs. Potiphar and Joseph, however, he grows angry and has Joseph thrown into prison. Mrs. Potiphar: Beautiful and scheming, Mrs. Potiphar tries to seduce Joseph, but is unsuccessful. However, she does manage to rip off much of his clothing just as her husband comes into the room, thus condemning him to prison. Also plays one of the wives. Baker: One of Pharaoh servants, the Baker is in prison with Joseph who correctly interprets his dreams and predicts that he will be put to death. Butler: Another of Pharaoh servants, the Butler is also in prison with Joseph who also correctly interprets his dreams, this time that he will be released and taken back into Pharaoh’s household. It is the Butler who tells Pharaoh about Joseph and his uncanny ability with dreams. Pharaoh: The most powerful man in Egypt, Pharaoh is considered a god on earth. When Joseph interprets his dreams, he promotes him to one of the highest positions in his government. Takes the lead on “One More Angel in Heaven” Simeon: Second son of Jacob. Takes the lead on “Those Canaan Days” Levi: Third son of Jacob. Judah: Fourth son of Jacob. Takes the lead on “Benjamin Calypso”. Dan: Fifth son of Jacob. Naphtali: Sixth son of Jacob. Gad: Seventh son of Jacob. Asher: Eighth son of Jacob. Issachar: Ninth son of Jacob. Zebulun: Tenth son of Jacob. Benjamin: Twelfth son of Jacob. Joseph accuses him of stealing the golden cup. The Wives: The wives of Jacob. When they hear that an old lady in York, PA, is about to die and leave her fortune to her two long lost English nephews, they resolve to pass themselves off as her beloved relatives and get the cash. The trouble is they find out that the relatives aren't nephews, but nieces! They don't let a little thing like that stop them, though. Carlson received her doctorate from Durham University in the United Kingdom. In 2016 Durham University is celebrating a major milestone the 150th anniversary of the establishing of the first Durham University alumni society in London, which formed in 1866. It is with tremendous honor that Carlson will be representing Verb Ballets as an alumni at this event. Durham alumni were invited to a special evening reception to be held in the private residence of the British Ambassador to the United States of America. The evening will be hosted by the Ambassador and fellow Durham alumnus, His Excellency Sir Kim Darroch (Zoology, Hatfield, 1975) and by Lady Vanessa Darroch (Education, Hild Bede, 1975). The evening will be a unique opportunity for Carlson to meet with fellow alumni and friends of the University from across the US, including leading members of the North American development boards. Dr. Margaret Carlson, Verb Ballets' Producing Artistic Director Dr. Margaret Carlson has worked internationally in performing, teaching, choreographing, and in arts administration. Dr. Carlson was an original member of the Cleveland Ballet, serving as a Principal dancer from 1972-1983. Also a member of Actors Equity, she performed in numerous musical theatre tours throughout the 1970’s, including Sweet Charity, Ballroom, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Brigadoon, Mame, Hello Dolly! and The Merry Widow. For many years, she choreographed for the Cleveland Opera. Dr. Carlson served as Director of the School of Dance at the University of Akron from 1985-1993. In 1993, she became Dean of the School of Dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, until she returned to Cleveland in 1999. She then served as the Development and Education Director for the Cleveland San Jose Ballet. She consulted both nationally and locally through her company, Carlson Consulting Group, Inc., with groups that have included The American Dance Guild, Chinese Performing Artists of America, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, Ohio Ballet, Dancing Wheels, Ohio Youth Ballet, Ohio Conservatory of Dance, Tom and Susana Evert Dance Theatre, and White Cloud Studios. Dr. Carlson founded the American Alliance of Dance Artists and served as its first President. She has served as a Board member and officer for Kids on Broadway, DANCECleveland, the Cleveland Ballet Council, the American Dance Guild, the Council of Dance Administrators, the Hong Kong Ballet, the Hong Kong Dance Company and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund. She served as the secretary of the International Organization for Transition for Professional Dancers, a sub-committee of UNESCO, based in Switzerland from 1998-2006, and was a Board member of the American Dance Guild in NYC for 20 years and served as its Treasurer and vice-president for 10 years. Dr. Carlson currently serves on the board of trustees of Fairmount Center for the Arts, Cleveland Dance Movement and the Cleveland Chamber Symphony. She is known for her work as the regisseur for the works of Ian (Ernie) Horvath and has been working with Ballet Tucson on the restaging of Horvath’s work, Laura’s Women. She received her doctorate from Durham University in the United Kingdom.
