Hosted by ArtsNow and Summit Artspace, the candidate forum will take place from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Summit Artspace located at 140 E. Market Street in Akron. The forum will be moderated by Brenda Cummins and is open to the public. "The City of Akron has historically been extremely supportive of arts and culture and we look forward to working with Summit ArtSpace to keep this topic at the forefront of discussion as we approach the election,” said Nicole Mullet, Executive Director of ArtsNow. “It supports recruitment and retention of the best and brightest, and is vital the vibrancy and health of the city." This forum is open to all candidates that have filed to run in Akron’s September 8th mayoral primary. Participating candidates include Summit County Clerk of Courts Dan Horrigan, Akron Councilman Mike Williams and defense attorney Eddie Sipplen. “We are proud to have the opportunity to host the Akron mayoral candidates and our community at Summit Artspace,” said Joanne Green, Executive Director of Summit Artspace. “There is a momentum in Akron and Summit County around arts and culture, and we are thrilled to partner with ArtsNow and a small group of dedicated artists to provide a place to bring our community together to discuss issues relevant to Akron’s artists, arts organizations and arts supporters.” A task force comprised of area artists and arts advocates are spearheading the Akron Forum on Arts and Culture in conjunction with ArtsNow and Summit Artspace. 6 DJs REPRESENTING 6 BANDS! Come and cheer for your favorites! Show your support by putting your feet on the dance floor!! Be sure to arrive in time to take part in the beginner jitterbug lesson from 8pm to 9pm. No need to bring a dance partner. We have lots of spares waiting to take the lesson and dance with you. We also rotate partners during the lesson so you will get lots of experience. :) The beginner/intermediate jitterbug lesson will be taught by the ever popular Loreto Agdinaoay and the Swede with the swingin super powers Megan Hallstrom. We always review the basic Jitterbug step, review the fundamentals of leading and following, and then show a few new moves. Each lesson is unique and you will always pick up new moves and hints each time you attend a pre-dance lesson at a Get Hep Swing event. These lessons are appropriate for brand new dancers all the way up to advanced dancers. You will not be disappointed! Immediately after the lesson (at 9 PM) 6 DJs will be flexing their button pushing muscles to bring you and awesome night of swing music and swing dancing until 12am. Each DJ will be given only 30 minutes to impress you and make you want to dance. Each DJ has been given the task of selecting just one band to represent. Our small, but friendly and welcoming church would especially benefit from worship led by a follower of Jesus with a commitment to personal spiritual growth and formation. Folk music is music of the people and truly is for everybody. Parents: consider having your child learn folk music. Not only is it music of our American roots, kids find it very engaging and fun. It stars the nuns you love plus Father Virgil and some of Mt. SaintHelen's most talented students. This show is filled with "Nunsense"humor, some of your favorite carols, a "Secret Santa," and anuproarious take on the Nutcracker Ballet. It's the perfect way toinsure your holiday season is merry and bright! Director/Choreographer Kim Mihalik & Music Director JayneBartish-Kacik are looking for the following performers: Reverend Mother - 40's and up - Mezzo-Soprano (bordering on Alto) The Mother Superior of the Little Sisters of Hoboken. She tries to be strictand keep order, but things often get out of her control. She grew up in acircus family and her "showbiz" background and sense of humor alwaysshines through her attempt at creating a tough exterior. Sister Mary Hubert - 30's and up - Mezzo-Soprano (Gospel stylevocals) Second in command to Mother Superior. She wanted to be a nun all her life andat times finds it difficult to deal with problems she believes are created byMother Superior's ineptness. Very practical. She and Mother Superior have ahealthy and humorous rivalry. Sister Robert Anne - 20's and up - Mezzo-Soprano (Belter) Streetwise nun from Brooklyn, NY. She is one tough cookie, but has a heart andsoul of gold. The students love her because she speaks their language. Shefeels she has real theatrical potential and is constantly frustrated byReverend Mother's refusal to let her star in the show. Sister Amnesia - 20's and up - Mezzo-Soprano (Country stylevocals) Was hit on the head with a crucifix and for a long period didn't remember whoshe was. Now, everyone knows she is Sister Mary Paul, a country singer whojump-started her recording career as the first un to appear at the Grand OleOpry. Even though she has her memory back, she always seems to be a"little vacant" but innocently endearing. Sister Mary Leo - 20's and up - Any Vocal Part or Non-Singing A former novice nun, her dream is to be the first nun ballerina. Note: SisterMary Leo only appears briefly at the beginning and end of the show and willdouble as stage crew. Father Virgil - 30's and up - Tenor/high-Baritone Grew up in the Mississippi Delta where he and his sister were part of the TrottFamily Singers. He now has his own radio show and the sisters invited him toparticipate in the Christmas program because they knew he could give thempointers on presenting a good show. Students - ages 8-18 Louise | Maria | Billy | John Students of Mount Saint Helen's Catholic School who are chosen by theirteachers to help out the Sisters with the Christmas Program. An extra evening for auditions will be held at Clague Playhouse onMonday August 24th starting at 7PM; no appointments will be necessary.
