Laura Alonso, daughter of world famous ballerina Alicia Alonso and renowned teacher and coach, Fernando Alonso, is herself known as a teacher, coach and an expert at staging the well-known classics. For seven years she served as the personal coach and teacher for international prima ballerina assoluta, Alicia Alonso.�Dance Theatre of Harlem artistic director, former prima ballerina and former editor of Pointe�magazine, Virginia Johnson, calls her an, “international master teacher extraordinaire.” Ms. Alonso was honored with an award as the best coach at the Jackson International Ballet Competition in 1990. Her student, Jose Manuel Carreno, won the Grand Prix de Ville, the highest award possible. Ms. Alonso has served as coach, jury member and teacher at the Jackson IBC and as jury member of the Concours International de Dance de Paris, France, the Alicia Alonso International Ballet Competition and other competitions around the world. A teacher of world class experience, Ms. Alonso has taught for professional ballet companies all over the world and has participated as a member of juries in leading international ballet competitions.� Ms. Alonso’s 25 year performing career with Ballet National de Cuba included soloist work in all of the traditional classics. Today she travels around the world teaching and staging the classics for pre-professional as well as professional companies such as London’s Royal Ballet School and The Royal Danish Ballet. Essential duties and responsibilities include: manage, balance, and implement performance programs with appropriate faculty, staff and outside artists, resulting in the establishment of the annual performance season, senior series, coffeehouses and faculty concerts; secure all performance licenses; process all performance department contracts; develop and maintain the performance dept. budget; monitor the status and condition of designated performance areas of FAA facilities; serve as public representative of the performance dept.; direct performance productions as appropriate to the established season and teach theatre classes as appropriate to the schedule. The comedy genius Mel Brooks adapts his legendarily funny film into a brilliant stage creation – Young Frankenstein! Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced “Fronk-en-steen”) inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked side-kick, Igor (pronounced “Eye-gore”), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. “It’s alive!” he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather’s. We are currently looking for short film, feature film, and web series submissions for Spectrum, a new digital distribution site we are building where users can buy, watch and stream film and television content with their friends. The Akronist & the Highland Square Porch Rokr Festival Present… Free Mobile Media Classes (July 14, 2015 – Akron, Ohio – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) The Akronist is proud to announce a new partnership with the Highland Square Porch Rokr Music and Art Festival to provide free mobile media workshops. Workshop Dates and Times: Tuesday, July 14 at 6 PM Thursday, July 23 at 6 PM Tuesday, July 28 at 6 PM Location: Highland Square Library 807 W. Market St. Akron, OH 44303 About the Workshop: Have you ever wanted to try your hand at journalism, but didn’t know where to start? Do you struggle with how to promote your work, but feel intimated by social media? In preparation for next month’s Porch Rokr Music and Art Festival in Highland Square, the Akronist is holding a mobile media workshop at the Highland Square Library. Each 45-minute session is a stand-alone class designed to give you an understanding of digital media “on-the-go.” Some of the subjects covered will include: uploading a video from your phone to YouTube, correctly and effectively using hashtags and composing the 140-character caption commonly known as a Tweet. Freelance journalists Yolanda Heisler and Connie Williams will lead the workshop and members of the Akronist staff will be on hand to answer any questions.
