AUDITIONS FOR STAGED READING OF A NEW MUSICAL (AURORA COMMUNITY THEATRE)

Seeking adult actors of all ages, for two staged readings of a new musical comedy, "Where There's A Will." These staged readings will be for small test audiences, and will be used to further develop this original script. Rehearsal schedule will be fairly minimal--10-15 evenings throughout August and September, leading up to the staged readings, September 11 & 12. Music and script will not need to be memorized. No set changes or costumes. The cast is multicultural and rather male-dominated. Complete cast list below. Written by Tim Shaffer with music by Tim Shaffer and Dustin Oliver, "Where There's a Will" is a musical comedy that follows a cast of inmates as they try to produce a prison's first-ever Easter musical. *Auditions will be held at the Aurora Community Theatre, 7pm August 4 & 5*. The theatre is located at 115 East Pioneer Trail, in Aurora. Auditions will be held downstairs (parking in back). Scruffy, friendly, mentally unstable & delusional. 2-DOWN: 20s-30s, an inmate. Street-wise thug. BIG DOUG: 20s-30s, an inmate. Dumb muscle-head. BJ: 20s, an inmate. Flamboyantly gay Latino, with a strong accent. DEPUTY WARDEN JOE MENTIRAS: Any age, Latino. A chauvinist who doesn’t believe that women should be running things, let alone prisons. Life is black and white for him and he believes that everyone in prison is guilty and should be punished. YESMEN: Any age or sex. A chorus of non-independent thinkers, totally loyal to the Deputy Warden. WARDEN MIRA BANISTER: Early 40s, hard-working career woman. A prison reformer who believes in rehabilitation, more than punishment. Professional, lonely, yet romantic and still a bit optimistic. Always wearing pink-framed glasses on her face, head, or on a chain around her neck. JARED ANTHONY: 20s-30s, an inmate. Artistic, poetic, agreeable yet pessimistic. Has slightly longer hair than other inmates, always seems slightly unkempt. Prison play author. TONY VINCENS: 30s, an inmate. The Warden’s clerk. Incarcerated over 6 years ago for assault, while defending a friend in a fight. Honorable and caring. Prison play cast member. SINICA: 35-50, an inmate. A bad, but enthusiastic, singer. Prison play cast member. STANCHEK: late 30s to early 50s, an inmate. Slow moving and even slower thinking; hearing and mobility damaged years ago, in a fireworks accident. Prison play cast member. JACKSON: 20s, an inmate. Thug. Prison play cast member. TOWNSEND: 40s-50s, an inmate. Fancies himself a great singer, but can’t annunciate a consonant to save his life. Prison play cast member. JUSTICE: any age, an inmate. Blind, black, small of stature. Prison play cast member. HAVERSON: 75-90, a feeble inmate. Prison play cast member. LANNY: 50-80, long-time inmate and chapel clerk. Worked his way down from maximum security. Now rehabilitated, but with little chance of parole. Humorous, good-natured, resourceful, clothes always impeccably pressed and tailored. Internship at Cleveland Public Theatre in Not-for-Profit Financial Management Range of Duties: Assist with financial record keeping and preparation of audited financial statements. * DATES & STIPEND: This 20 hour/week internship starts Aug 17th and can run as late to March 31st and pays $10/hour. * SUPERVISION: The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Assistant General Manager. * FOCUS: This internship will focus on not-for-profit financial management and record keeping. ? LEARNING GOALS: * To learn how to read and evaluate the meaning of financial statements. * To learn and experience the steps in preparing for a financial audit conducted by an outside auditor. * To learn basic bookkeeping using Intuit QuickBooks * To understand how accounting and financial management are practically applied in the day-to-day decision-making for a not-for profit performing arts organization. * To develop a clear understanding of the value of financial management in the life of an organization. ? Take a look at what's new from America's first regional theatre: *“100 Season of Cleveland Play House” at Cleveland Public Library* A Display Exhibit at Cleveland Public Library, Main Branch, 2nd & 3rd Floor *FREE *Opening Reception: Saturday July 18, 2015 at 2:00pm, 2nd floor lobby of Literature Department Exhibit on display July – December 2015 during library business hours (Mon-Sat 10am-6pm) 100 Seasons at Cleveland Play House is a fascinating display exhibit that celebrates the past, present and bright future of America’s first professional regional theatre, and recipient of the 2015 Regional Theatre Tony Award.® The exhibit, which encompasses 15 display cases spread across the second and third floors of the Main Library at 325 Superior Ave. NE, features photographs and items spanning the entire history of CPH from its inception in 1915 to the present. About STEP: Founded in 1995, CPT's Student Theatre Enrichment Program (STEP) celebrates its 21st year of providing rigorous arts education and job training for low income urban teens. Each year, the CPT Teaching Artists, led by Education Director Chris Seibert, select works of literature that serve as a starting point for the teens to create an original theatrical production. The program culminates in the creation of an original theatrical production that tours to indoor and outdoor venues across the city. The merchant Antonio is approached for a loan by his dear friend Bassanio so that he may woo an heiress in another city.
