"My Way....a Musical Tribute to FrankSinatra" will have auditions on Monday July 21 and Tuesday July 22 at7:00PM. Looking for 2 women and two men any age. There are no parts for children or teens inthe production. Tom Meyrose will direct the show and Jess Stewart will be themusical director. *What Happened to The Golden Rule?* *Kulture Kids’ Original Children’s Theater Performance Shows Manners Matter* Children and their families are invited to journey with a zany (and not so polite) archaeologist in search of The Lost Temple of Ma’at, the Egyptian goddess of truth, justice, and civility. Ancient Egypt comes to life in a spectacle of magic, comedy, music, dance, and hieroglyphics that urges us all to remember our manners. This is a show you don’t want kids to miss! Kulture Kids’ newest original children’s theater production, *Ma’at is Missing: Deciphering Manners* addresses the seeming lack of civility, manners, and kindness in society today. The audience is tasked with helping a nutty professor discover and unravel clues to the Lost Temple of Ma’at and decipher the ancient hieroglyphics within that illustrate how we should treat one another. From simple etiquette when coughing or sneezing, to how we consider others’ thoughts and feelings before we speak, Ma’at is Missing guides children on an expedition to find out why our manners matter. Ma’at is Missing: Deciphering Manners will take the stage on August 21 at 7:00pm, August 22 at 3:00pm and 7:00pm, and August 23 at 7:00pm. A hands-on family art workshop is included in the ticket price and will take place 30 minutes before the start of each performance. A reception will follow the opening night performance. The performance will tour throughout September and October 2015 at branches of the Cuyahoga County Public Library. *New youth theater group in Medina to stage sold out production of “Shrek the Musical Jr.”* Everyone’s favorite family-friendly fractured fairytale, “Shrek the Musical Jr.,” comes to Medina, Ohio this weekend. The 60-minute youth oriented version is a Broadway musical adaptation of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film. The production will be presented at the Medina County University Center located at 6300 Technology Lane. Public performances are July 17-19. *Unfortunately, the production is completely sold out.* Call (330) 899-7150 for more information. (Please note that the University of Akron does not endorse the goods and/or services described herein.) The production is directed by Nate Sayatovich and Ansley Valentine. Sayatovich works in the education department at Cleveland Play House, the recent recipient of the 2015 Regional Theatre Tony Award. Valentine is director of theatre at Northern Michigan University, and recently received the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival Gold Medallion for his efforts to promote quality educational theatre across the country. Music direction is by Michelle Hujar; Elizabeth Ivanovic provides the choreography; and Donna Miller has built the costumes. In 2011 Valentine helped start a summer youth program at the Medina Performing Arts Center, and gained a following of families. Two years ago, that program became part of the Fred Hargrove Young Artists program. Valentine said, “Unfortunately, the Medina County Arts Foundation conducted a review of its programs and upcoming events and elected not to fund the summer portion of the program at a level consistent with previous years. To maintain the quality of the summer youth program, it became necessary to explore alternative options for a new home.” Support for a new venture came from many parents and the Highland Foundation. With their help, Valentine was able to quickly organize the production and provide an acting day camp at Highland High School. Northern Michigan University is producing the show this year, with plans underway to create a new organization. According to Sayatovich, “With the help of the Highland Foundation, the program was able to ‘land on its feet’. What sets us apart is our hands-on approach, an acceptance of all students no matter their ability, and a connection to a professional theater network that lets us stretch our resources and achieve an artistic, quality production youth theatre programs don't often have. Our level of participation has been great. The community has been very generous, and the show is now sold out.” “Shrek the Musical Jr.” features a cast of 50 elementary through high school age actors from Cuyahoga, Medina and Summit Counties. Leading this band of fairy tale creatures is Paul Cinko as Shrek; Alexcia Ambroz and Cameron Olin as Princess Fiona; Julian Everstijn as Donkey; and Addie Wisniewski as Lord Farquaad. Like Gerda he evolves from pre to post adolescence. Sweet-voiced early, a rock tenor by the end. Snow Queen - A force of nature to be reckoned with. Powerful, mercurial, demanding and alluring. She is beautiful, cold and hard, just like her ice and snow. Soprano with a rock feel. Grandmother - Kind and caring, she tries to protect the children by keeping them ignorant of the dangers in the world. Mezzo. The Rose - The superstar of the floral world. She loves to be admired. The Troll - Mischievous, playful, amoral. He is not so much malevolent as he is unfeeling. Bari/Tenor. The River - An elemental force - swirling, powerful and unyielding. He has much to teach. Baritone. Garden Witch - Needy, cunning and a little dotty. She is powerful yet very scattered. Mezzo. Flowers - Vain, beautiful, simple-minded and competitive. They love the sun and crave attention. Each has their own unique qualities and they like to talk about them. The Old Crow - Noble, forgetful, and aged. He believes he's much younger than he really is. Speaks like a World War I British flying ace. He wants one more grand adventure. He has the IQ of a bird. Bari/tenor. Lady Crow - His devoted, besotted lady-friend. She also has the IQ of a bird. Mezzo. A Princess - An untraditional princess. Geeky and adventurous, she's always eager to know and learn more. No matter what time of day or night, she seems to be on way too much caffeine. Explosive energy, she is hopelessly in love with The Prince. Mezzo A Prince - See Princess. They are a perfect match. Robber Girl's Mother - Scary and demanding and the leader of the toughest, roughest gang in the woods. She always gets her way - except when her daughter is around. Robber Gang - Not bright, not well-kept, and awfully loud Robber Girl - She is the scariest tween you've ever met. Demanding, hormonal, volatile, half-princess and half-Oger. She confuses fear and love, and seems to know things way beyond her years about evil thing in the night. Punk rocker. Strong rock belt. The Reindeer - The most noble, honorable beast on the ice. From a royal reindeer family, he is the strong loyal friend you want beside you on any difficult journey. Tenor. Two Pigeons - They are birds from the San Fernando Valley. Not very bright and very self-absorbed. Woman of the North - Wise, powerful, spiritual - she is both of this world and not of this world. She can see beyond the things of the real world. Mezzo. Snowflake Soldiers - They are powerful fighters. After Gerda defeats them, we see the children trapped inside that she has released. Members of the Ensemble will take on multiple different characters, and act as the main vehicle of the production. They will create the environments and tell the story!
