*Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is looking to fill two male roles in the World Premiere of * * * *1970* * * *Written By Scott Lax* * * *Directed By Brian Westerley* Performance Dates: September 22nd - October 1st. Rehearsals will start on or around August 6th. Both a love story and a wartime chronicle, this powerful play reveals the effects of the Vietnam War on a group of friends living in a small town in Northeast Ohio. The play opens in September of 1970, four months after the shootings at nearby Kent State of May 4, 1970, and months before the Vietnam War draft lottery of 1971. The script is based on Lax's novel, /The Year That Trembled/, which was also made into a feature film. The young men must examine their views of war and consider the fate that awaits them; the young women and other townspeople face the possibility of losing their husbands, boyfriends and friends. Each member of the group embarks on a personal search that will bring very real and very adult conflict and pain and strip away their youthful naivete. As the play hurtles toward life-changing consequences, the enormity of this war contrasted with the microcosm of one small town exposes the desires, the betrayals, the loves and the ability to forgive, of characters who are at war within themselves. * * *Looking to fill the roles of: * * Phil Rose – M, 18-30, sensitive and spiritual, an aspiring singer-songwriter in search of true love * Charlie Kerrigan – M, 20-35, gave up rock guitar to be a family man. Written by John Patrick Shanley<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Patrick_Shanley>, Doubt: A Parable<https://www.beckcenter.org/shows/doubt> is a gripping story of suspicion and morality set in a Catholic school in the 1960s. When a popular priest is accused of misconduct, a determined nun becomes convinced of his guilt, despite having no evidence to support her claim. Doubt: A Parable has been performed in theaters around the world and was adapted into a critically acclaimed film in 2008 with standout performances by Meryl Streep and Viola Davis. The play has won numerous awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2005, and has been called a modern classic. The play explores themes of power, authority, and the dangers of certainty in the face of ambiguity. Truth, faith, certainty, doubt. We struggle to align these things. I hope our audience will experience that doubt as the play unfolds. Where does truth live?" Genesis is looking for Choreographers for Adult/Children Workshops & 2023-2024 Theatre Season Genesis Choreographer’s overall purpose is to work directly with the director, cast, and production staff to move a show from inception to closing. The choreographer agrees to choreograph dances and all responsibilities as listed for children and adults and any Genesis special events. The duties may be carried out in person or virtually. The Choreographer agrees to be present for a minimum of 1 performance in person. *ESSENTIAL* *FUNCTIONS* 1. Creating new dances, and designing dance moves, sequences, and routines for performances. 2. Directing rehearsals. 3. Auditioning dancers/students. 4. Collaborating with the music, design, and costume departments to assist with the artistic aspects of a show. 5. Deep understanding of different styles of dance and music as well as the ability to communicate their vision effectively to dancers, young students, and other collaborators. 6. Providing training and support to all dancers. 7. voice development, and dialects, using voice exercises, speech drills, explanation, lectures, and improvisation. 8. Audition Notice: _The 39 Steps_ Adapted by Patrick Barlow, From a Novel by John Buchan Directed by Robert Gibb Auditions: Monday, June 26 and Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 7 pm Show Dates: September 15 - October 8, 2023 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm Story: Combine a film masterpiece by Alfred Hitchcock with a juicy spy novel and add a large splash of zany, over-the-top theatrics. The result? A fast-paced whodunit with four versatile actors portraying more than 50 roles! London, 1935. The rather dull Richard Hannay encounters a woman who claims to be a spy. When she is suddenly murdered, Richard finds himself the focus of a nationwide manhunt led by a mysterious organization called "The 39 Steps." Characters: All the roles in the play are performed by four actors. One plays Richard Hannay: this role has been cast. One female plays the three women in the play: Annabella Schmidt, an exotic German secret agent; Pamela, a beautiful English woman; and Margaret, a Scottish farmer's young wife. And two "clowns" play every other character, including heroes, villains, men, women, children, and even the occasional inanimate object. Additional information can be found on our Audition Page [1].
