AUDITIONS FOR “NORTH POLE’S GOTTALENT”AT BROADVIEW HEIGHTS SPOTLIGHTSTHEATER Wednesday, November 2ndand Sunday, November 6th, 2022 The Broadview Heights Spotlights Theater is seeking adults andchildren 8 & up for the short play “North Pole’s Got Talent”. The play isperformed as part of the event “Soup, Sandwich, and Show with Santa” – a newtake on dinner-theater for families. This unique seasonal experience will beheld Saturday and Sunday, December 10th & 11th. Thosewho have special talents (gymnastics, juggling, instruments, singing, etc.) arealso encouraged to audition. Auditions will be held at the Broadview Heights Spotlightsbuilding, 9543 Broadview Road (on the Broadview Heights city campus, next tothe police department). Insurrection: Holding History - Closing Weekend Struggling with his graduate thesis on slavery, Ron, a gay, black student at Columbia, attends a family reunion to celebrate his great-great-grandfather T.J.’s 189th birthday. Despite the fact that T.J. can’t move, hear, or speak, T.J. (given voice by the spirit of Mutha Wit) convinces Ron to take him back to his old home in Virginia. Fracturing the space-time continuum as they go further south, they arrive on the eve of Nat Turner’s doomed 1831 uprising to see Nat Turner himself racing through the woods. Encouraged to understand his ‘past’ in order to understand his ‘present’ and the perception-altering confrontation with what it means to be ‘free’, Ron discovers that how the authenticity of history unfolds depends on the perception of the storyteller. “With a script that ranges from mildly disorienting to startlingly evocative, the director Jeannine Gaskin draws some excellent performances out of her nine-person cast. But what resonates most clearly is the need to confront and understand our past for, as George Orwell said and this play reminds us, "He who controls the past controls the future, and he who controls the present controls the past." “ Christine Howey, Cleveland Scene Winner of the Oppenheimer Award for Best New American Play in 1996, Insurrection: Holding History is a fanciful dramatization of Black history by multi award-winning playwright and director Robert O’Hara. Written during his artist-in-residency at the NY Public Theater, the play garnered immediate acclaim for the burgeoning playwright earning comparisons to a cross between Roots and The Wizard of Oz. The San Francisco Examiner called it “One seriously hilarious and hilariously serious play… remarkably exciting, deeply provocative, [and] comically profound.” Wonderfully witty with time-bending fantastical turns, Insurrection: Holding History is a wild, thrilling ride between past and present. Insurrection: Holding History is directed by Jeannine Gaskin. The cast features Andrew Pope (TJ) Chelsea Anderson (Izzie Mae), Isaiah Betts (Hammet), Kadijah Wingo (Mutha Wit), Laprise Johnson (Gertha), Matthew Raybeam (Nat Turner), Mike Frye (Cop, Detective, etc.), Sydney Smith (Octavia/Katie Lynn), and Wesley Allen (Ron). The Sounds of St.James concert series returns Sunday, November 13 at 4 pm with violinist Samuel Hao and pianist Kai-Min Chang performing Bach’s Partita in D Minor, Ysaye’s Sonata No. 2, Grieg’s Violin Sonata No. 3, and Ernst’s Last Rose of Summer. This promises to be another great afternoon of music at St. James Roman Catholic Church,. 17514 Detroit Ave. in Lakewood. Light refreshments will be served following the concert with the opportunity to meet the artists. Admission is free with a free will offering for the performers suggested.

Join us for a 3-day workshop during which we will go over the ins and outs of the audition process and help you create a ready-to-use audition package. What is included: Day 1 (11/11 7-10 p.m.), we will work on building your resume and finding monologues. Day 2 (11/12 2-5 p.m.), we will find 2 songs for your audition book and learn a dance call. We will be giving tips and tricks to pick up a dance quickly. Day 3 (11/13 2-5 p.m.), we will hold a mock audition and get a headshot taken by internationally acclaimed photographer Janet Macoska. Next Weekend! CWRU Dance presents "Spectrum"

The Department of Dance at Case Western Reserve University opens the 2022-2023 season with Spectrum, featuring Brink by contemporary NY-based choreographer Janice Rosario and the return of the popularly acclaimed Les Noces by Pascal Rioult. Artistic Director Gary Galbraith with collaborators Mike Martens, CWRU Professor of Physics, and Jared Bendis, Creative New Media Officer for CWRU's Freedman Center, presents a new technology-infused multi-media and multi-channel sound dance work *In Another Place And Time* using new state-of-the art technology, supported in part by his Expanding Horizons Initiative Grant (EHI). Rounding out the program will be the return of Karen Potter's poignant Ubi Sunt. Spectrum will be performed November 11, 12 and 17-19 at 7:30pm and November 13 at 2:30pm at Mather Dance Center, 11040 Bellflower Road, on the Case Western Reserve campus in University Circle.
