Unfortunately, the play’s format and development do not satisfy the need to truly explain, “something is not working, people” and teach the reality of the “Bias Bubble.” I wish that the director had taken the comments from the first staging and made the necessary changes to make the follow-up performance more meaningful. Both CPT and Salter wasted a marvelous opportunity to make this a really important play! Dear Friends & Patrons, On Wednesday, 11/02, the Kent Trumbull Theatre and Modern Methods Brewing Company will be presenting a reading of Hey! Where's Charlie?! By Edward J. Walsh and directed by Brian Westerley. The reading will happen at Modern Methods Brewing Company in downtown Warren, OH. The venue opens at 7:00pm, the reading will commence at 7:30pm. Charlene Thompson and Justin Huth, an engaged couple, have a serious problem. Vacationing at a winter resort, Justin rented a snowmobile, which now lies damaged against a tree. Isolated by mountains and a wicked winter storm, the couple waits for rescue. Unfortunately, they have nothing to eat except for a few dog biscuits, belonging to Charlie, Charlene's beloved dog. To fend off starvation, Justin suggests Charlie could be the answer to their problem. Charlene is outraged. Charlie seems to sense something's up. As their hunger increases, what will the couple decide to do about Charlie? To top off the festivities, we will also be holding a launch party for Ghost Light Porter, a collaboration between Kent Trumbull Theatre & Modern Methods. Ghost Light Porter is a classic American Porter brewed with six different specialty malts for a complex flavor profile evoking chocolate, hints of nuts, and finishing with dark fruit. Beck Center For The Arts Announces Youth Theater Production of The Canterbury Tales Or....Geoffrey Chaucer's Flying Circus Lakewood, OH-<https://www.lakewoodoh.gov/>Beck Center for the Arts<https://www.beckcenter.org/youth-theater>, one of the oldest continuously running Youth Theater programs in the nation is proud to announce the first production of the 74th Youth Theater 2022-2023 Season. The 2022-2023 season starts with a fun comedy perfect for the entire family. The season begins with a modern parody of the classic Canterbury Tales. Audiences will be laughing in the aisles with this fresh take on the famous fables with The Canterbury Tales Or... Geoffrey Chaucer's Flying Circus<https://www.beckcenter.org/youth-shows/tales>, directed by local talent Russel Stich. Sarah Clare, Associate Director of Theater Education states, "We are so lucky to have such an amazing and dedicated group of students working on this show. Not only do we get to see our students hone their comedic acting chops, but we also get to see them take on the stories their parents and grandparents studied in school. Luckily, our version is a little bit easier to digest than the original in Middle English." Audiences will see The Canterbury Tales told with a Monty Python flair. Many believe that Chaucer's literary masterpiece revolutionized English literature. You'll meet many of the pilgrims who tell his tales, including the Wife of Bath who has cleaned up her act for this adaptation and is now selling self-help DVDs. The parson, the pardoner, and friar join in for the fun as well telling their tales. The Miller makes an appearance too, though nobody wants to hear anything he has to say! This production takes challenging literature and tosses in a good helping of humor to create a silly yet educational comedy. Beck Center for the Arts' Youth Theater alumni include Michael Chernus (Orange Is the New Black; Manhattan); Dee Hoty (three-time Tony Nominee); Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold; Transformers: The Last Night); Rory O'Malley (Hamilton; Tony Nominee, Book of Mormon); and Daniel Reichard (Drama Desk Nominee, Jersey Boys). The show runs November 3 through November 6, 2022, in the Senney Theater. *Casting Call* For Cleveland State University Thesis Film, "Power” *Synopsis* 9 months after her assault, Jane attends a therapy session. By opening up about the long term mental and emotional repercussions this event has had on her, she learns to face her trauma in order to heal. ****This is a non-union, no-pay, student short film. Meals as well as copy/credit provided. Shooting is to take place in the Cleveland area. Actors to be available late January-early/mid February**** *ROLES * *JANE (Lead): Female, 18+ to play early 20s, any ethnicity. * - A young woman navigating her trauma. She is stubborn and struggles to be open about what happened to her. She ultimately wants to be able to heal, which leads to a slow revelation of her true thoughts and emotions. (Role involves light intimacy) *DR.ANDERSON (Supporting Lead): Female, late 30s to mid 50s, any ethnicity. * - Jane’s therapist. She’s been doing this for a while, and subsequently is very levelheaded and patient. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves!
