Auditions for Stow Players production of Mauritius directed by Brian Westerley are set for Monday December 6th at 7PM and Tuesday December 7th at 7PM at the Heritage Barn in Silver Springs Park in Stow, Ohio. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Rehearsals will begin on or around December 12th. Performances will be Feb. 4th through February 19th. Cast: Jackie (female) - age 25-35 Mary (female) - age 35-50 Sterling (male) - age 50-65 Phillip (male) - age 45-60 Dennis (male) - age 30-45 When her mother dies after an expensive illness and a lifetime of bad choices, tentative but tenacious young Jackie is left with a mound of debt. One glimmer of hope: a stamp collection, potentially valuable, is among her assets. Philip, the brusque and arrogant stamp dealer to whom she takes the collection, won’t even take a look without his $2000 fee. Charming Dennis, a former stamp collector and small-time grifter down on his luck, who just happens to be hanging out in Philip’s shop, is only too willing to look at Jackie’s collection. Discovering two Mauritius “Post Office” stamps, the “crown jewel of philately,” in the old album, he is overjoyed. Dennis assumes that unassuming Jackie will be easy to scam, and contacts Sterling, an incredibly rich and remorselessly violent “international businessman” who is an obsessive stamp fancier, promising him an easy purchase. Meanwhile Jackie, whose secret well of rage and resourcefulness makes her no-one’s “lamb,” runs into obstacles of her own: her educated, refined, estranged, much older half-sister, Mary, claims the stamp collection as her own -- an inheritance from her paternal grandfather -- and refuses to sell, citing it’s inherent spiritual and cultural value. Will Jackie change her luck and her life? Will Dennis let his increasing interest in Jackie interfere with his trickster persona? Will Philip’s ancient grudge against Sterling play a role? In this drama, six highway workers are forced by stormy weather to share one room in an abandoned Department of Transportation outpost. Over the course of several hours, the men must confront their own fears, prejudices, and beliefs, and those of each other, while elemental forces outside threaten them all. This production will be directed by Rachel Zake, with rehearsals beginning on February 12, 2022 and performances ending on April 3, 2022. There’s not supposed to be biting or cigar-smoking in Bethlehem, and while these kids have never even heard the Christmas story, they definitely have rewrites! Soon everyone is calling for reluctant director Grace Bradley to cancel the whole thing. It’s up to Bradley and the Reverend to help their community see the Christmas story and the Herdman kids through new eyes in this buoyant musical adaptation of the funny and touching holiday classic. Cleveland Public Theatre announces auditions for the World Premiere of 10 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT: 9 QUIRKY PLAYS FOR THE HOLIDAYS Short plays by local & national creators Director: Caitlin Lewins, CPT’s Director of Audience Engagement & Media Relations Associate Director: Ananias J. Dixon Looking to cast 7-10 ensemble members who will play a variety of roles. The ensemble includes roles that are Black, Latinx, white, and open/undefined. We are seeking a diverse ensemble. We are especially interested in actors who are comfortable with singing and/or play musical instruments (though not required). No equity agreements are available for this production. World Premiere. About The Process… The production will be semi-scripted and semi-devised/created in rehearsal. The full script will be assembled during the rehearsal process and actors who are cast in this production will be involved in multiple scenes and transitional pieces. Music will also be created in the rehearsal process in collaboration with the Music Director and creative team. Rehearsals will begin on or around October 18 or October 25, 2021. Rehearsals are 5-6 times a week, with evening weekday rehearsals and some daytime weekend rehearsals. Performances begin with one preview on December 2. The production opens on December 3. 10 Minutes to Midnight runs December 2 – 18, Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat at 7:30pm, and Sun at 3:00pm in the Gordon Square Theatre. Important Information about The Play… 10 Minutes to Midnight is in the process of being created. Themes currently known include race, loss, gender identity and self-love, and pregnancy. Important Information about COVID-19… All artists and staff members working on 10 Minutes to Midnight are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. About the Director: Caitlin Lewins is a writer, composer/musician, performer, director, and designer/crafter. Caitlin was named a 2019 Finalist for the National Directors Fellowship and a 2019 Finalist for The MITTEN Lab. Recently, Caitlin directed the Zoom Premiere of Savory Taṇhā (sixteen short plays performed by a rotating ensemble), and co-directed Awakenings, A Celebration of Cleveland Public Theatre, a one-hour television special created in collaboration with WKYC Studios and The Cleveland Film Company (Regional Emmy Nominee, Telly Award Winner). Caitlin was Assistant Director of Clue at Cleveland Play House (directed by Casey Hushion). Caitlin was awarded a 2016/2017 Nord Family Foundation Playwright Fellowship which culminated in the World Premiere of Everything is Okay (and other helpful lies), a dark musical comedy co-created with Melissa Crum which received readings inside the 2019 New York Musical Festival (NYMF). Caitlin joined the CPT staff in 2013 as Story Connector, became New Play Associate in 2014, and transitioned into her current role in 2017. Caitlin completed the 2013/2014 Joan Yellen Horvitz Director Fellowship which culminated in the production Left in Ink which she conceived, directed, and co-created. Previously at CPT, Caitlin co-directed (with Dan Kilbane) and music directed 44 Plays For 44 Presidents and created and performed The Cleveland Line Dance as a part of Light the Lights, Ol’ Moses CLE! (A Wild Holiday Romp). Caitlin line produced Entry Point (A New Play Development Program), four Road to Hope events in the Spring of 2016, line produced Exact Change and The Santaland Diaries at Playhouse Square, and the Nord Family Foundation Playwright Reading Series. Caitlin directed Canon Fodder – a Nord Fellowship Reading, music directed Frankenstein’s Wake, and assistant directed/contributed to The Loush Sisters Love Dick’ns: Great Expectations. Caitlin co-created and directed Edison and Ford which appeared in Air Waves (Part Three of the Elements Cycle). STAGEHANDS WANTED Apollo’s Fire, the Cleveland Baroque Orchestra, is looking for a few good stagehands to assist us with various load-ins and load-outs of portable staging and production equipment for the upcoming season. Starting pay is $24 an hour. Ability to lift up to 65 pounds is required and you must have your own car. Preference given to those with stagehand experience. The next batch of work calls are between October 20 and 25, throughout Cuyahoga County, but also in Bath OH on October 23, and in Willoughby OH on Oct 27. We typically work in the early afternoons and between 9 pm and midnight. If you are interested in picking up some extra work, please email me.
