Directed by guest artist Rachael Swartz, performances will be held in the intimate Studio Theatre on November 5-7 and 12-14 at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 8 at 2 p.m. Audiences are advised that the show contains adult language. As in Ruhl's other works, the MacArthur "Genius" Grant recipient and two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist often addresses themes of death and memory. This play is about how we memorialize the dead and our need to connect in today's technologically obsessed world. In particular, when technology and death intersect, we find ourselves grieving for strangers. The play opens as Jean, played by senior theatre major Natalyn Baisden (Wooster, Ohio) has had enough of an incessantly ringing cell phone at the cafe table next to her. As she intervenes, she realizes that the cell phone's owner, Gordon who is played by freshman theatre major Waylon H. O'Donnell (West Sunbury, Pennsylvania), is dead. Comedy, a love story, and horror ensue as Jean becomes entangled with Gordon's quirky, arrogant, entitled, eccentric family including his mother played by freshman education major Emma Dumford of Westerville, his widow (freshman criminal justice major Kaylee Lhotsky of Brunswick), and his brother (freshman history major Tyler MacQueen of Loudonville). In addition, Jean must confront the other woman and a stranger who are played by freshman theatre and journalism/digital media major Ingrid Schmidt (Mansfield). The show's guest director, Rachael Swartz, is an actress, director and educator from Wooster, Ohio. She received her MFA in Performance from The University of Southern Mississippi and her BA in Theatre from Baldwin Wallace University. She has directed youth programs at The Clinton Area Showboat Theatre and The Lost Colony, and toured the U.S. and Canada as a teaching artist with Missoula Children’s Theatre. She currently serves as the Education Director for Maples Repertory Theatre. Her previous performances include Mother Abbess in *The Sound of Music, *Betsy/Lindsey in *Clybourne Park,* Sara Jane Moore in *Assassins, *Mrs. Candour in *The School for Scandal, *and Artemis in *Eleemosynary.* Rachael is a proud Equity Membership Candidate and member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association, The Lessac Institute, and Dueling Arts International. Big Halloween Swing Dance this Saturday, Oct 31st at the Slovenian Workmen's Home! Live Music from Hepcat Revival!

This is one of our very biggest dances of the year and you definitely do not want to miss it! Costumes are encouraged. Most of the attendees take this costuming business very seriously. :) Be sure to arrive in time to take part in the easy jitterbug lesson from 8pm to 9pm. We always review the basic Jitterbug step, talk about the basics of leading and following, and then show a few new moves. Each lesson is unique and you will always pick up new moves and hints each time you attend a pre-dance lesson at a Get Hep Swing event. These lessons are appropriate for brand new dancers all the way up to advanced dancers. You will not be disappointed! Immediately after the lesson (at 9 PM) the band Hepcat Revival will kick off an awesome night of music and swing dancing until 12am. Free candy! Photo op areas! And a costume contest during the first band break (around 10pm) with prizes for the top three best costumes! No need to make reservations or buy tickets in advance. The event is $12 per person. No need to RSVP. Just show up and have fun! We have lots and lots of room for you and all of your friends! The Waterloo Ballroom at the Slovenian Workman's Home is located in the very artsy and lively Collinwood neighborhood. The address is 15335 Waterloo Rd, Cleveland, Ohio 44110. The Slovenian not only has a beautiful ballroom; they also have a well stocked bar. They have alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks of all kinds for sale--including a very special Slovenian beer- Lasko! There will also be some sweet and savory snacks for sale in the bar as well. There are TWO parking lots to the right of the ballroom and there is also some street parking as well. However, if you can carpool with friends that would be recommended. We also have a security guard who keeps an eye on the hall and both parking lots. We feature a variety of local and national swing, jazz, jump blues, big band and early rock and roll dance bands. You are welcome to join us just to enjoy the music. These events are fun even if you don't dance. Everyone is welcome to come and have fun with us at this swing dance. There is no need to have previous dance experience or a dance partner.
