FREE two hour jitterbug dance class at the Slovenian Workmen's Home for any and all residents of Cleveland! Bring your friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers! We make learning to swing dance fun. You do NOT need to bring a dance partner or have previous dance experience. All ages and abilities are welcome to attend. 5-7pm at the Slovenian Workmen's Home,15335 Waterloo Rd. Last Saturday of each month - Oct 31, Nov 28 & Dec 26. Attend one! Attend them all! In each class we will start from the beginning and cover the basic steps, how to lead and follow, a few simple moves and then some fancy schmancy moves. Please wear comfy clothes and shoes! What is swing dancing?? Swing dancing is a general term for all of the partnered dance forms that were created for jazz music from the 1920s through the 1950s, but are still popular today. These include; jitterbug, charleston, lindy, balboa, hand dancing and more. Usually when people speak of swing dancing they are referring to the easiest and most popular form of swing dancing which is known as the jitterbug or East Coast swing. Jitterbug will be taught in these lessons. Why swing dancing?? Because it is fun, healthy & a great way to meet people! Every participant is given a free pass to join us at the Slovenian Workmen’s Home Swing dance that night. Casting Call: Non-Union, unpaid feature film. IMDB credit. The film, is a gritty, no-holds barred American slasher-film, to be shot in January 2016 throughout various parts of Cleveland, Ohio. Synopsis: A band of friends discover a map to a supposed treasure hidden within a malevolent family's estate. This film will contain mystery, debauchery, beheadings, romance, adventure, hatchet-battles, and rednecks. To be shot at 4K. Auditions will be held at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel in Independence, Ohio on Sunday, November 8th, 2015, from 10am til 5pm. Address: 6200 Quarry Ln, Independence, OH 44131 Character Descriptions: TITO: (male, 50s/60s, italian-type) a funny major supporting character with a mysterious past. He is the owner and head-chef of the famous restaurant in the film. Must be able to do accents. EVE: (female, 20s, brunette) the leading female role. She’s the new girl in town, and all the buzz around the guys. She’s agile and extremely witty. This is a very action-heavy role. RONNY: (male, 20s/30s) a slightly awkward, but humorous character. He’s a smarter than he lets on, and always finds himself at the wrong place, at the wrong time. CYNTHIA: (female, 20s, blonde) a troublemaker. Extremely sarcastic and wild-card character. She’s untrustworthy and unexpected. ROBERT: (male, 40s/50s) the leader of the Wolf family. Despicable and conniving. GERTRUDE: (60s/70s, gray hair) she’s calculated and fierce. Need West Geauga High School students for performance

Accent on Youth (sponsored by the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre) is looking for two females and possibly one male from West Geauga High School to participate ina short play about teen drinking. The program will be presented for the health classes at West Geauga High Schoolon December 7th. Rehearsals will be arranged around your schedule, but will primarily take placeat W.G. right after school, and there may possibly be a few weekend rehearsals. Students participating will receive community service hours and also a gift of 25.00 and two tickets to any show at the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre. That raw toughness surfaces in “Quilters,” which is playing through Nov. 1 at Actors’ Summit Theater. The production isn’t a long, evolving story, but instead features scenes about pioneer women who struggle to hold together their families as they move westward toward a new life. They pause to give birth, bury their dead and move forward to build a new nation. The women made quilts to keep the family warm at night, and the quilts provided an artistic outlet for the women. Often the women in the family gathered together around the quilting frame to work on one quilt — this shared experience provided an opportunity for the family to draw even closer. One woman in the story tells of her husband helping her quilt. This production of “Quilters” complements the Summit County Historical Society’s Mutton Hill Quilt Show, which will take place Oct. 16-18 at the John S. Knight Center. The first act sets up the plan of the play. Women reminisce and tell stories of quilts they’ve made. The stories fit together nicely with old favorite hymns and original music written by Barbara Damashek. The book was written by Molly Newman and Damashek. The first act is light and whimsical. The second act is more painful and rugged. In the second act, the characters deal with birth, children and abortion. These women gave birth often without the benefit of a midwife. Many raised five, 10 or more children. They shared a recipe for easy-to-find spices that would cause a miscarriage. The women worked with the men to build their log cabin homes. They finally have a place to live. In another scene, they face prairie fires that destroy their homes, crops and livestock. Yet, they move on — they were tough and had no choice. *The cast is one of the best ensembles to come to an Akron stage in a long time.* Charlene DeJournett plays Sarah, the mother. She brings maturity and wisdom to the production. Sarah’s daughters are played by Sally Groth, Shani Ferry, Hope Caldwell, Sarah Slagle and Rachel Irwin. The excellent cast brought laughter, tears and stunned silence to the theater. They sang solos, but the women were at their best when the six sang together and blended beautifully. Ferry’s character tells of not being able to have children. She falls in love with a man and he loves her, but he wants children and marries another woman. Ferry’s character is a teacher and later teaches his children. Groth’s character, a mother of many children, has to deal with the death of her husband and find a way to keep herself and her children alive on the plains. These women have a resilience, which keeps them going through the pains of the westward trek. They tell the stories of their lives in their quilts. The instrumentalists for “Quilters” include Deborah Ingersoll (keyboard), Ian Leroy (alternate keyboardist), Groth (fiddle), Jon Mosey (banjo) and Brian Mosey (guitar). MaryJo Alexander directed this moving production. She works well with musical shows.
