MARY POPPINS (Midview High School Drama Club) Don't miss this opportunity to see the first production of "Mary Poppins" in Lorain County! On the heels of a record-smashing production of "The Wizard of Oz," last Spring, the Midview High School Drama Department takes to the rooftops of London with Tony Award-winning "Mary Poppins" as it's Spring 2015 production. Set in Victorian England, the story revolves around the themes of believing anything can happen, including softening stale hearts and finding kindness to help the needy for just "Tuppence a Bag." These themes find their exposition in the lives of the Banks family headed by Mr. George Banks, a man in the throes of family dysfunction elicited by his obsession with career advancement. The children are spoiled and unloved, until Mary Poppins arrives on scene. With a nod of her head and just a "spoonful of sugar," she prevails in turning the Banks children from rotten to redeeming, Mrs. Banks from ignored to affirmed, and transforms Mr. Banks from stoic career hawk to the ideal family man. Once her job is done, like a guardian angel, she vanishes to work her next miracle for another family. Staring Andrea Decaire as "Mary Poppins," Adam Hamrick as "Bert," Emily Hetrick and Tyler DiFranco as "Jane and Michael Banks," and Nathan Seres as "Mr. Banks," and Maya Shed as "Mrs. Banks." The cast of Midview High School's Drama Department is setting the stage for success. Last year, the Wizard of Oz was the most well-attended show in the school's history with 1,400 patrons over one week-end. This year, with Midview being the first Lorain County High School chosen to perform "Mary Poppins," the community is getting ready for another great show. The students playing Chimney Sweeps have even learned to tap dance for the show's major dance number, "Step in Time." Directed and choreographed by Andrew Lipian (Lorain Palace Theater), students are mentored by other career professionals such as Caitlin Hyland (Off-Broadway equity actress), set designer Susan Hughes (Lorain Palace Theater, True North), and Abacus Productions, a professional lighting company headed by Zach Cummins, recipient of a Lincoln Center award for lighting design. With a bevy of community leaders, students, parents, and professionals pouring their talents into the production, the community is given an unforgettable theater experience for families of all ages. He’d rather not get involved with any sort of conflict, where it be politics or the interpersonal drama in his family, and is absolute in his conservative views. - Ms. Solomon (age 50+, Latina or AA Female): The matriarch of a large family, Ms. Solomon has put in her time as a caregiver and now sees no need to bite her tongue. She’s been through enough to know that there’s really no time for bs in this world.

*THE SHOW:* Avenue Q *WHEN:* Sunday, May 17th and Monday, May 18th from 7-10 PM. Callbacks will take place on the evening of Tuesday, May 19th. *WHERE:* Aurora Community Theatre, 115 East Pioneer Trail in Aurora *WHAT:* Please bring a resume and headshot if you have them. If not, there will be a form for you to fill out. Please also prepare 32 bars of music from a Broadway musical of your choice. We'll treat initial auditions as a "legit" musical audition to see how you deal with things like pitch, rhythm, interpretation, and the like. Vocal soloists are Diane Menges, Jill Barr, Jonathan Short and Stephen diLauro. The professional orchestra includes members of the Cleveland Orchestra. Six other music ensembles at Church of the Saviour will also participate in this free hour-long celebration of praise. The Wesley Bells play *Joyous Proclamation* and the Flute Ensemble plays music of Jean Sibelius. Both groups are directed by Virginia Steiger. Bells of the Saviour play music reflecting on the Scottish hymn “O Come Thou Traveler” and GOOD NEWS continues with a Celtic flair in *Christ Be in My Waking*. Agape Choir sings Mozart’s *Ave Verum* with strings, and the Gospel Choir, directed by Brian Smart, raises the roof! Church of the Saviour is handicapped-accessible and has free parking. Weathervane Playhouse's 80th Season Continues with the Fast and Funny "Unnecessary Farce" Two Cops, Three Crooks and Eight Doors Combine to Create a Side-Splitting Comic Romp Weathervane Playhouse, Akron's hometown theater, continues the celebration of its 80th season with the hilarious, fast-moving comedy Unnecessary Farce - presented live on stage from April 23 to May 10, 2015. Written by Paul Slade Smith, Unnecessary Farce combines all the vital ingredients of a classic British farce - slamming doors, mistaken identities, manic plot twists and scheming shenanigans - but shifts the setting to present-day America. The result of this concoction is an uproarious, rapid-paced comedy involving two cops, three crooks and eight doors. In an economy motel room, an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant. In the room next door, two undercover cops are supposed to catch the meeting on videotape. But there's some confusion as to who's in which room, who's watching the video, who's taken the money, who's hired a hit man, and why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes! Weathervane Playhouse's production of Unnecessary Farce is directed by Marc Moritz, whose comic touches as a director have guided such previous Weathervane Playhouse productions as Don't Dress for Dinner and The 39 Steps.
