------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CSU Department of Theatre and Dance Presents Tale of a West Texas Marsupial Girl Family-Friendly Show FINAL WEEKEND April 24-26! Cleveland State University's Department of Theatre and Dance presents Lisa D'Amour's Plays for Young Audiences production of Tale of a West Texas Marsupial Girl. The FINAL WEEKEND is April 24-26, in the Helen Rosenfeld Lewis Bialosky Lab Theatre at Playhouse Square. Recommended for ages 5+! Tale of a West Texas Marsupial Girl, directed by CSU Associate Professor Holly Holsinger, with music and story consultation by Sxip Shirey, explores the themes of acceptance and "fitting in." Marsupial Girl is approximately 95-percent girl and about 5-percent marsupial. In other words, she has a pouch. It might seem that a built-in pocket would come in handy, but it doesn't always work that way. The cast features Cheyenne Bizon as the Marsupial Girl, as well as Sarah Blubaugh, Gabe Chuna, Shawn Davis, Nadia Valencia Davis, Lainne Davis, Maurisha Dean, Malik Jones, Charlie Jones, Kevin Kaiser, Hannah Krainz, Giorgiana Lascu, Vince Lazar, Chloe Mlinarcik, Jamie Satterfield, Shannon Sharkey, Lizzie Stewart and Joe Virgo. Chuna and Krainz are senior Theatre majors graduating this spring. The show is recommended for ages 5 and up. Show times are 7 p.m. for evening performances and 2 p.m. for matinees. Additional auditions for "It Runs In the Family" directed by Mason Adams are being held over for Thursday April 23 at 7pm at WORKSHOP PLAYERS THEATER 44820 Middle Ridge Road Amherst, Ohio 44001. Mason is looking for a few females ages 20-60. And few males 40 - 70. Some roles are large parts and some small parts. This is a British farce that will be a lot of fun. One of the male roles is physical and very energetic and may require someone who is flexible and agile. We welcome any and everyone to come out and audition in this charming theater-in-the-round! *Performance dates are July 9 through July 26.* *For more information contact director Mason Adams at **masonadMs(a)msn.com* <masonadMs(a)msn.com> Set in a hospital, *It Runs in the Family* contains the usual assortment of farcical nuts running in and out of doors mistaking everybody for someone else, as Dr. Mortimore tries to fend off a paternity suit, an ex-wife, a punkish daughter and various other lunatics so that he may, at last, deliver the Ponsonby Lecture in an international conference. The hospital becomes a veritable madhouse of lunacy as poor Dr. Mortimore’s chances of escape become more and more complex. This is a very fast paced, crazy comedy with one set. There are wild situations with at least three males impersonating Matron in drag. Except for two characters people are constantly coming on and off so *everyone will need to be at all rehearsals*. This is a tight ensemble piece. Roles: 7 males, 5 females Dr. David Mortimer - late 40s to early 50s - A successful neurologist at an important moment in his career. He is charming and a little pompous, flustered but quick to come up with ideas to cover he ever growing string of lies.. He is hoping to become the head of surgery and get knighted as a result of the speech he is about to present. He is onstage for almost the entire play and it is a very physical role. He is Rosemary’s husband, Jane’s former lover and Leslie’s father. He ends up in drag as Matron. Dr. Mike Connolly - mid 20s to mid 30s - An exuberant, boyish doctor who loves acting and dressing up. Makes an attractive woman in the right dress. He is eager to please but is often frenetic! Dr. Hubert Bonney - late 40s to early 50s - A doctor and David’s best friend. He is very low key but very likable. Much to his dismay he finds himself in the middle of David’s lies ultimately having to say he is Leslie’s father. While he may be slow to realize some things, he can be quick to react in song etc. to cover up something. He always gives in to David and is totally afraid of his mother. He ends up in drag as Matron. He has lots of physical comedy. Sir Willoughby Drake - early 60s to late 70s - He is a stern administrator who is a little out of touch with what really goes on in the hospital. Chair of the Board of St. Andrew’s Hospital, London. Very elegant – but ultimately succumbs to the gin in the end! Police Sergeant - late 40s to early 60s - He is a practical, down to earth cop who has arrested Leslie. He is revealed to be Mike’s uncle. He is the antagonist trying to get to the bottom of what is going on and haul Leslie off to jail. Bill Leslie - early 60s to late 70s - He is a patient at the hospital who gets thrown into the fray as a result of David’s lies. He is eccentric, fun loving and imagines him a swinger. He is confused into thinking the doctor’s lounge is his new hospital room and confuses everyone else. He is in a wheelchair, loves his liquor and women. He always becomes lucid when David is trying to cover something up. Leslie - late teens to early 20s - The tough, punk offspring of Jane and David who is now on an emotional rollercoaster finding out a doctor at the hospital is his father. He/She is very excitable but persistent. This is a very physical role but he/she is very sweet and loving when he/she thinks he/she has found his/her father and grandmother. Rosemary Mortimer - late 40s to late 50s - David’s attractive wife. She is refined and very outgoing and pleasant. She falls for many of her husband’s lies with concern and compassion. She handles the chaos that erupts around her with typical English resolve. Matron - mid 30s to late 50s - Used to giving the orders and having them taken. She is a no nonsense type of woman. She is robust, ample, strict, a rule follower. She can be quite intimidating but changes totally when she thinks Dr. Bonny has romantic intentions. She has lots of physical comedy. Jane Tate - late 30s to late 40s - Very pretty, sexy and cuddly. A former nurse at the hospital who had an affair with David that resulted in her son Leslie. She is a middle class and very protective of her son. She is not a pushover. Sister - any age range - She is a very efficient nurse at the hospital. Only appears in Act 1. Mother - mid 60s to late 70s - Hubert’s mother. She is doting, amiable but strong willed where her son is concerned. She is feisty and becomes surprised that her son got a woman pregnant but is thrilled with her new grandson. *THE MUSICAL THEATER PROJECT AND CHAGRIN ARTS PRESENT “BEHIND THE MUSICAL: HELLO, DOLLY!” AT* *CHAGRIN FALLS HIGH SCHOOL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER* The Musical Theater Project presents “Behind the Musical: Hello, Dolly!,” a co-production with Chagrin Arts, this Sunday, April 26, at 3pm at Chagrin Falls High School Performing Arts Center. The popular “Behind the Musical” series was created by TMTP to explore the history of a beloved musical’s trials and tribulations on the road to success. These multi-media concerts include archival footage, first-account interviews and live performances of all the beloved songs from the source material. Previous musicals featured in this series include “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Carousel,” “The Music Man” and “My Fair Lady.” “Behind the Musical: Hello, Dolly!” is co-hosted by TMTP’s artistic director Bill Rudman and music director Nancy Maier and features Ann Gilbert, Jared Leal, Jessica Cope Miller and Shane Patrick O’Neill. Taking on the songs of the iconic Dolly Levi is local favorite Sheri Gross, director of the performing arts camp and youth theater at Mandel Jewish Community Center. Says Rudman: “We’ll be telling a darn good story. In 1964 Dolly almost said goodbye instead of hello. Composer-lyricist Jerry Herman says that ‘doing that musical was the most difficult time in my career.’” The show remains a universal success over 50 years later. Audiences can expect to hear all the songs from the score including “Before the Parade Passes By,” “It Only Takes A Moment,” and of course the title song. Chagrin Falls High School Performing Arts Center is located at 400 East Washington Street in Chagrin Falls. General tickets are priced at $26/$20 and TMTP Member tickets are $21/$15. Tickets at the door are priced at $30/$25. Seating is general admission within section and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The tales we all know come to life onstage in a whirlwind of song, storytelling and silliness! Featuring 12 classic fables performed by a cavalcade of farm characters, this mini-musical will tickle the funny bone while teaching timeless principles. With puppets, rhythm, dance and poetry, Aesop's Fable-ous Barnyard Bash is the perfect performance for the whole family Seeking an ensemble of adults and children (ages 10+) to play multiple roles. The Regional White House Conference on Aging event on Monday, April 27th, is seeking to exhibit the work of older artists who specialize in visual arts. If you or anyone you know fits this description and would be interested in participating, please see the details below. The regional forum will be held at the Global Center for Health Innovation downtown, adjacent to the Cleveland Convention Center. 1. Only older adults in the visual arts can be accommodated. 2. Tables and easels will be provided. 3. The artwork should be brought to the loading dock at the Global Center/Convention Center on Sunday, April 26th, after 4 PM. It is located off West 3rd street. (The "load in" begins at that time for all the equipment/supplies needed for the forum.) 4. Registration begins at 7:30 on Monday, April 27th, and the forum goes from 8:30 until 3:30. 5. The Manhattan Project is a low-stakes, nonthreatening place for actors and playwrights to meet and work together. Based on the Theatre Lab model taught at the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and inspired by The Brooklyn Generator in New York, The Manhattan Project wants to introduce Cleveland actors and playwrights to each other by organizing a bi-monthly production of brand new 10-minute plays. Participating artists will meet early in the month and will be broken into teams, each with one playwright. The playwright will then be given a writing prompt to write a new 10-minute play based on the prompt and including all the team's actors. The rest of the evening the team members will get to know each other and get a feel for each other's skills and voices. The teams will reconvene later in the month to perform these plays for each other. These 10-minute plays are not an end in themselves. Through these small collaborations we hope to build relationships between the two most vulnerable artists in theatre; the actors who put themselves on stage and the playwrights who pour themselves onto the page. Perhaps these 10-minute plays will grow into longer works or maybe these collaborations will become partnerships on larger projects.
