In the wake of Green Day's 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Beck Center for the Arts is thrilled to rock out with American Idiot this summer. Originally released in 2004 as Green Day's seventh studio recording, this project went on to win "Best Rock Album" at the 2005 Grammy Awards®. By 2010, the music was brought to life on Broadway where it received two Tony Awards® and the "Best Musical Show Album" Grammy®. The story follows three friends as they search for true meaning in a post 9/11 world. Praised as "a groundbreaking musical knockout" by Rolling Stone, this energy fueled rock opera boldly takes the American musical where it's never gone before. Audition Reminder “Without a Clue” a killer new comedy written and directed by Breianne Saylor Audition date and times 8:00 pm on July 13th and 14th Old Town Hall – 5186 Dover Center Road, North Olmsted Auditions will consist of reading scenes from the script. Plot Summary Justin Tyme owns a small hotel that has its share of problems. During a thunderstorm, the maid, Lulu, discovers one of the guests staying at the hotel has been murdered. Brooke, a girl with a broken down car, arrives right before an inept detective. Pretty soon, all of the guests are brought together to figure out the killer’s identity and survive the night. The problems double when Sally Lynch, a building inspector, arrives to evaluate the condition of the hotel. Character Descriptions Justin Tyme – age 20s to 30s. Owner of the Falcon Inn. A bit high strung. Inspector Stumph – age 40s to 50s. A bumbling detective. Howard - any age. A wise-cracking, lazy maintenance man. Doubles as the dead body and is carried around onstage. Slash - 20s. A wannabe British rock star with a horrible fake accent. Mortimer - any age. Indescribable. Wears a cape. Brooke – age 20s to 30s. A smart girl in a bad situation. Lulu – age 20s to 30s. Four free workshops will include discussions about skills critical to artists' application and proposal writing skill sets to support their efforts in applying for a Creative Workforce Fellowship<http://cultureforward.org/Our-Programs/Fellowship> and other future opportunities. The second workshop, taking place Thursday, July 9th from 4 - 5:30 p.m. at Julia de Burgos Cultural Arts Center, will have artists who received 2013 and 2014 Fellowships run through how they put together their work samples and what they learned through the process. You will learn about how they told their story through the limited file requirements and tied it to their essay responses. Every workshop will also include information about the application and review process for those interested in applying for a Creative Workforce Fellowship. Theater Ninjas is holding auditions for Tall Skinny Cruel Cruel Boys by Caroline V. McGraw, directed by Artistic Director Jeremy Paul. Tall Skinny Cruel Cruel Boys will run October 22-November 7, with rehearsals beginning in mid-September. Brandy is a children’s entertainer with some serious demons in her personal life, not to mention the red-clawed monster that lives under her bed. She moves through life like a car crash, bringing illicit lovers, strange little girls and other broken friends along for the ride. Written by Cleveland native and Kilroy’s nominated playwright Caroline V. McGraw, Tall Skinny Cruel Cruel Boys is a bold dark comedy about self-destruction, honesty and finding what you really need.
