Charles Dickens, appears as the narrator of this tale and takes the audience along each scene as the story of Ebenezer Scrooge unfolds. The play is framed by a choir of young carolers singing Christmas carols telling the famous tale of finding one’s humanity and the true meaning of Christmas. *Character Breakdown:* *NARRATOR: *Charles Dickens (the likeness of him in character) *EBENEZER SCROOGE*: A miserly, money-hungry businessman *BOB CRATCHIT:* Scrooge’s clerk *FRED:* Scrooge’s nephew *TINY TIM:* The lame son of the Cratchits *MRS. In this hilarious and devastating dark comedy by Robert O'Hara (Bootycandy, Antebellum), the O'Mallerys have gathered in their local park to share some barbecue and straight talk with their train wreck of a sister Barbara, whose spiral of drugs and recklessness has forced her siblings to stage an open-air intervention. But the event becomes raucous and unpredictable as familial stereotypes collide with hard realities, and racial politics slam up against the stories we tell-and maybe even believe-about who we were and who we've become. WEATHERVANE PLAYHOUSE, Akron is seeking applicants for the position of Technical Director. The application process is already in progress; applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Responsibilities: The Technical Director is responsible for twelve productions annually. Duties include: Designing set, lights, sound and/or overseeing volunteer designs, creating and maintaining scenery build, paint and installation schedule; properties construction/acquisition; stage rigging engineering, installation and operations; overseeing safety for shop/productions; attending production meetings and technical rehearsals; supervising and training volunteer crews with the coordinator of volunteers; drafting for scenery construction; other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Requires BA/BFA in Technical Theatre or related field and at least four years' experience. Candidate must possess scenery construction and engineering, shop management, and rigging expertise. Experience with sound and electrics is a plus. Effective organization, collaboration, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with volunteers of varying skill levels is critical. The ability to organize and execute multiple assignments under specific time constraints is required. Must be able to stand for long periods, lift 40 lbs., use stairs and ladders. Review of "Like I Say" at convergence-continuum

con-con’s ‘Like I Say’ less than the sum of its peculiar parts Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics Len Jenkin’s bizarre comedy “Like I Say” and its Ohio-premiere production at convergence-continuum has so much going for it. The playwright has long been a favorite on the off-off-Broadway circuit and a master of the theatrical avant-garde. Much like Mark Twain, he uses humor to explore the basic questions of human existence and, like Kurt Vonnegut, this exploration often takes place in desolate locations to see how humans fare under those peculiar conditions. “Like I Say,” first performed in 2003, takes place at the Hotel Splendide, a broken-down seaside resort that is described by its handful of itinerant and non-paying occupants as being on a “dark end of the street” at “the edge of the world.” Much of the play is spent revealing the rather mundane and fractured lives of the disenfranchised hotel manager Helena (Lauren B. Smith), her stuttering, lovelorn handyman Little Junior (August Scapelli), who has a crush on angst-filled guest Rose (Linda Sekanic), and an alcoholic artist named Mr. Schwartzberg (Robert Hawkes) who is painting the hotel’s garden walls with images of the dead dancing with the living, But Jenkin tends to explore often disparate layers of the human condition by having the world his characters inhabit morph into both whimsical and grotesque variations that twist and turn inside out, or which simply lapse into fantasy. The storytelling potential of all this dark whimsy and silliness is enormous and right in con-con’s wheelhouse, but this production stumbles and never hits its stride.
