THE OHIO PREMIERE OF LIKE I SAY, BY LEN JENKIN NOW ONSTAGE AT CONVERGENCE-CONTINUUM A writer holed up in a seaside hotel is trying to overcome a tragic accident by teasing a story out of himself. He's joined by a wildly bizarre band of hotel staff and guests (a tattoo artist, a slow-moving handyman, two sinister Russian puppeteers, and the writer’s creation himself: Coconut Joe of Kokomo). The assembled band of misfits brings his weird story to life, while creating a few wild ones of their own. LIKE I SAY is an unpredictable, structurally bizarre and strangely comic whirlwind of a play with stories within stories, weird puppet shows, an Alpine zombie resort, and much, much more. A truly wild ride! LIKE I SAY is directed by Tyson Douglas Rand, and features actors Robert Branch, Robert Hawkes, Marcia Mandell, August Scarpelli, Linda Sekanic, Clyde Simon, Lauren B. *OPENING WEEKEND!* Directed by Art Suskin October 21-November 6, 2016 Fridays & Saturdays at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm The story of *Sweeney Todd*, Stephen Sondheim’s musical about the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, originated in a series of “penny dreadful” serial melodrama stories in the 1800’s. Sweeney, a barber with a definite anti-social streak, kills his victims in his barber chair, and then dumps them into his basement. There, they are collected and turned into a budget-conscious set of meat pies for his neighbor,Mrs. Lovett to sell in her pie shop. Geauga Lyric Theater decided that this edgy show with a beautiful music score would be the perfect show for the fall holiday time. *Sweeney Todd* will run Fridays through Sundays from October 21 to November 6, at the historic theater at 101 Water St. in Chardon. The strong cast ensures that Sondheim’s challenging music will be well treated. Director Art Suskin says that this iconic show has been on his bucket list for his fifty years in theater. “The music is wonderful, and the storytelling complex.” The age of the cast ranges from Sweeney (Don Bernardo), who has been involved in more than one hundred community theater productions, to Johanna, the young love interest, played by Hannah Kulawiak, who is a high school sophomore. Bernardo also lists this role as a “bucket list” part, and says “It is easily the hardest role I have ever performed; challenging and extremely demanding music.” Hannah Kulawiak, last seen on our stage as Wednesday in *The Addams Family*, says she has been coveting the part of Johanna since she was in the ensemble at Hathaway Brown three years ago, when she played the role of the oven. Sneak peeks at rehearsals have gathered rave reviews of the singing talent in this show. Area-Premiere: Queen of the Mistat the Broadview Heights Spotlights The Broadview HeightsSpotlights will present the non-New-York-City premiere of Michael JohnLaChiusa’s musical, The Queen of the Mist. The play tells theamazing, true story of Anne Edson Taylor, a 63-year-old school teacher who, onOctober 24, 1901, was the first person to travel over Niagara Falls in a barreland survive. This year marks the 115th anniversary of herremarkable feat. This production will be exclusively sponsored by The DennisAgency: Insure for Epic Drama. The show is directed byTim Anderson, music directed by Ryan Bergeron, and choreographed by ZacHudak. Peggy Newton stars as the ambitious Anne, and Nick Bailey playsthe role of Frank Russell, her manager. The show also features a quintetof five performers including Lydia Hall, Pam Matthews, Justin Schickler, AdamBowers, and Tim Anderson. Jean Brennan is the stage manager. “We happened to bein New York City five years ago and saw the original production. I wasmesmerized by this woman and by the ridiculously beautiful music,” saidAnderson. “The piece is so well crafted and lends itself to inventive stagingand storytelling. When the performance rights became available, I jumpedat the opportunity to get to do it.” The Spotlights is the second theater everto produce this musical. Coincidentally, shortlyafter rehearsals began at the Spotlights, a fifth-anniversary concert featuringthe original Off-Broadway cast was announced. Several members of the Spotlights’cast and production team are traveling to New York to see the concert inOctober. The Spotlights’production runs from November 4 through 20. Performances will occur onFriday and Saturday evenings at 7:30PM, and there will be a Sunday matinee onNovember 13 at 3:00PM. College Mentorship: Can YOU be the one to leave a positive impact?

Hey NEOhioPAL! Esperanza, Inc. needs your help! We are looking for 100 mentors in 100 days to leave a positive impact on our college students lives! We are also looking for 100 mentees! These mentors will be paired with college students, some of them first generation college attendees, for one year to help them transition into the college life. Mentors are asked to take 1 minute, 2-3 times a week to text, FaceTime, Skype, call, meet in person or email their students to find out how they are adjusting to college. They also should meet face-to-face twice in that year. Mentors and students are matched for one year from the start of the relationship. Matches will be made in mid-December with the kickoff event taking place January 5th. After one year students and mentors can decide to recommit to another year. Students and mentors create their own schedule of communication! Our College Mentorship program just requires 30 minutes a month.
