East Cleveland Theater is hosting auditions for August Wilson's Radio Golf. Part of Wilson's, The Century Cycle, it is the last play in his 10-play series. Radio Golf takes place in Pittsburgh, PA, in the 1990s. We are looking for 5 African-American actors, 4 male and 1 female. *Synopsis:* What price would you pay in order to stay true to yourself and beliefs? This is the dilemma we confront in Radio Golf. Surrounded by a backdrop of politics, ambitions, traditions and friendships, all involved must answer this question for themselves. *The Roles:* *Harmond Wilks*: African American (male, mid 30’s – to late 40’s) A real-estate developer, Ivy League-educated, well-spoken and ambitious. He inherited the business from his father but he has big dreams of a very prominent future in politics as well. While in the midst of a big housing development project potentially worth millions, he is running to be the first African-American Mayor of Pittsburgh. Harmond is honest to a fault and committed to his beliefs. *Mame Wilks:* African American (female, mid 30’s – to late 40’s) Harmond’s wife of many years, she is a well-educated, successful and ambitious public relations executive. Though she is rising within her own career, Mame wants Harmond to rise with her, so she is helping him with his mayoral run. Mame is smart and manipulative but caring. She will go to bat for what she believes in but there are limits, even for her. *Roosevelt Hicks: *African American (male, late 30’s – 40’s) Recently promoted to a vice-presidential position at Mellon Bank, Roosevelt is clever and a bit of a hustler. His education is average but he has worked hard to get what he has. He is determined to overcome what he perceives as the limitations placed on him by society and is willing to risk almost anything to do it. A long-time friend of Harmond, he is involved in the real-estate deal and mayoral campaign. *Sterling Johnson:* African American (male, mid to late 40’s) A neighborhood handyman/contractor, poorly educated and an old time friend of Harmond. Life has not been kind to Sterling so he is very rough around the edges but deceptively street smart. He robbed a bank many years ago and paid the price. Sterling has learned to be a hustler through experience but wants what everyone wants, a good life. *Elder Joseph Barlow:* African American (male, late 60’s – 70’s) He seems like the nicest man you could ever meet but Elder Joseph hides a dark past. He presents an addled and feeble demeanor with a wink and a smile but he has a criminal record that stretches back many, many years. He is very clever and sly in the way he hooks his victims. That is how he has gotten through life. CPT announces Auditions for Entry Point (new dates for Entry Point)

Cleveland Public Theatre announces Auditions for Entry Point a part of CPT's NEW New Play Development Series Cleveland Public Theatre is looking to cast several pieces of theatre as part of our inaugural Entry Point festival. We are looking to cast a diverse group of actors of all ages and types interested in supporting the development of a new work. Entry Point will be a weekend festival of raw art-in-progress-a platform for artists to develop new work that is in early stages of creation. Each project in Entry Point has unique needs and goals. Public presentations during the festival will range from staged readings to presenting short segments of a new work to open rehearsals of the creation process - all in different spaces throughout the CPT campus. For example, audience members may see a staged reading in one space, then see a segment of a devised work in another space, and then close out their evening by hanging out in a casual lounge to share their experiences with fellow audience members and artists. Auditions When: Saturday, October 15th and Sunday, October 16th from 12pm-4pm Where: CPT's Campus (6415 Detroit Ave) Auditions are by appointment only and will be scheduled in one hour increments. Actors will be given sides at the audition for cold readings. They should also come with one prepared contemporary monologue that they may be asked to perform. Actors may also be asked to sing a short a cappella song. Please bring 3 copies of your headshot and resume, if available. Actors should be prepared to stay for the entire hour. Entry Point will need the following commitment: 1. Entry Point will take place from Friday, January 20th through Sunday, January 21st (new dates!) 2. Rehearsals prior to performance vary with each Entry Point project: some may require as many as 5 weeks of rehearsal and some may require as little as 9 hours. Be prepared to share your availability on your audition form at your scheduled audition. AEA contracts will not be considered. Non AEA actors will receive a very small stipend. North Pointe Ballet Announces Inaugural Season Featuring The Nutcracker (December 9-11, 2016) and Cinderella (May 5-7, 2017) North Pointe Ballet (NPB) announces its 2016-2017 season with two feature shows, The Nutcracker, December 8 -11, 2016 and Cinderella, May 5 - 7, 2017. In addition to the two feature performances, NPB will host several community outreach events and offer educational opportunities, including a special student matinee on December 9th at 10:30am for school field trips, day care and home-school groups. This performance features shortened show length and special Q&A with the dancers. Tickets for Student matinee are on sale now. The Season will kick off with The Nutcracker, December 9 - 11, 2016. The Saturday, December 10th matinee will feature radio personality "Java Joel" as "Mother Ginger." The entire running of the show will feature professional dancers from North Pointe Ballet and several students from the area, including Louisa Szczepaniak an exchange student dancer from Germany, who danced at Art & Dance in Loerrach, under the direction of Sylvia Künnecke. Water Street, Suite HKent, Ohio$10 suggested donation (or pay what you can)preceded by 7:30 p.m. meet-and-greet featuring light food and drinks For the first concert of the "Around the World" Music Series' second season, we are pleased to present The Five Islands, an acoustic quintet dedicated to the performance of early calypso music from the Caribbean island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, dating from the genre's formative period in the early 20th century. The Five Islands' repertoire consists primarily of classic instrumental calypsos by the pioneering Trinidadian composer and recording artist Lionel Belasco (1881-1967). Drawing on elements of West Indian folk music, infused with the traditional sounds of nearby Venezuela, and refined by influences from classical music and American jazz, beginning around 1914 Belasco forged an infectious and sophisticated new style of dance music that was to become one of the great roots music traditions of the Americas. Like tango, choro, son, dixieland, and Cajun music, which were also developing around the same time, this early calypso was documented and disseminated worldwide via 78-rpm records. The band's performance will also include a few medleys from the first known recordings of Lovey's Trinidad String Band, dating from around 1912. These early calypso works were integral to the popularization of West Indian music and influenced composers like Belasco. The band's name is inspired by a group of small islets off the coast of Port of Spain, Trinidad, which are simply known as "The Five Islands." A variety of beverages (including tropical cocktails made with genuine Trinidadian rum) will be on hand for a nominal charge. About the band: Zach, Ray, and Tim have been performing together in various groups since the late '90s. They are best known in the Cleveland area for performing as both The Abductees and The Helper T-Cells. Both bands were known for their inventive songwriting and eccentric live performances. Anthony, Christina, and Zach joined together in 2010 to form an old-time music group called The Little Ol' Me's. In the early 2000s Ray discovered the music of Lionel Belasco from the film "Ghost World." He shared that finding with Zach and several years later they began to slowly learn the tunes together. After accruing a plethora of early calypso tunes, they established The Five Islands.
