*The Music Man* is a musical <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_theatre> with book, music, and lyrics by Meredith Willson <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meredith_Willson>, based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_Lacey>. The plot concerns con man <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confidence_trick> Harold Hill, who poses as a boys' band organizer and leader and sells band instruments and uniforms to the naive Iowa townsfolk, promising to train the members of the new band. But Harold is no musician and plans to skip town without giving any music lessons. Prim librarian and piano teacher Marian sees through him, but when Harold helps her younger brother overcome his lisp and social awkwardness, Marian begins to fall in love. Harold risks being caught to win her. Our director is Joy Van Keuran. Auditions for this spectacular musical are Monday, December 19th. from 7-9 p.m. at the theatre. *Hathaway Brown Theatre Institute * *Winter Break 2016* Join us over winter break for amazing theatre arts classes and workshops! Attend for a day, a few days or join us for all six. *December 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 & 29 - 10 AM-3:30 PM** *PRIME* for girls and boys in 1st – 4th grades. Come and share the FUN: acting, singing, dancing, storytelling and stagecraft. Each day is filled with arts activities to explore your creativity and imagination. Student work with professional instructors. *Tuition*: $ 40 per day or $230 for all 6 days. *PERFORMING ARTS TRAINING* is a co-ed program for students in 5th grade– through college. Full day workshops (10 am-3:30 pm) and half day (10 am-12:30 pm and 1-3:30 pm) technique classes. Although some companies have deeper pockets, more Actors’ Equity contracts or a grander facility than others, talent makes itself known and creativity always rises to the surface no matter the pay scale and no matter the palace.
