THE 2016 NEOMFA PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND THURS-SAT, FEBRUARY 18 - 20 AT THE LIMINIS THEATER convergence-continuum presents two more world-premiere plays by local graduate-student playwrights this weekend at the 2016 NEOMFA Playwrights Festival. This time featuring a full-length (two-act) play by final-year MFA candidate L. Langford and a short one-act play by second-year grad student Samuel Amazing. The Split Show by L. Langford explores what happens when compassion and understanding help shrink the empathy gap. Momdukes is the sassy, irascible neighbor of the Wilsons, a raucous African-American family embroiled in domestic dysfunction. The Brusteins are a white, liberal, NPR-listening, Whole-Foods-loving couple expecting their first child. The Wilson's and the Brustein's worlds couldn't be further apartuntil a monumental mix-up and a fateful night bring the two families together. Inspired by actual events in Northeast Ohio. Directed by guest director Jimmie Woody and featuring Kelly Belle, Nikki Lewis, Leonard Goff, Tamicka Scruggs, Eric Sever, Gregg White and Kim Woodward. The Last Stand on Mango Street by Samuel Amazing is a twenty-minute, one-person play following a grocery shop owner as he lives through the last day of Earth. Or the first day of the Apocalypse, however you'd like to look at it. Directed by con-cons Geoffrey Hoffman and featuring Robert Branch. These plays are part of a three-year intensive program of study under playwright and Cleveland State University professor Mike Geither, and are co-produced by convergence-continuum and the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts (NEOMFA) in Creative Writing consortium. This is the fifth year convergence-continuum has mounted the Festival at its performance space, the Liminis, 2438 Scranton Rd, Cleveland 44113 in the historic Tremont neighborhood. Review of "In the Heights" at Beck Center for the Arts

‘In the Heights’ es caliente, luz y dulce, pero no auténtico Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics The Upper Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights has gone through many changes since the early 1900s, when it was largely populated by Jewish and Irish immigrants from Europe. By mid-century, Soviet refugees were the dominant demographic, who were then replaced by families from the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico. By the 1980s, gang activity infiltrated Washington Heights, resulting in a crime rate that rivaled nearby Harlem. In the 1990s, the neighborhood became the largest drug distribution center in the five boroughs and beyond. This is not quite the welcoming world that’s been created by Lin-Manuel Miranda (music/lyrics) and Quiara Alegria Hudes (book) for their 2008 Tony Award-winning musical “In the Heights.” Their Washington Heights is a highly romanticized and thoroughly sanitized celebration of three generations of Hispanic families who are just trying to carve out a living and make this piece of the island their home. When two young men fall in love with the same woman, their lifelong friendship hangs in the balance. Along the way, you'll meet idiosyncratic servants, a runaway woman disguised as a man, domineering fathers, outlaws, and theatre's most famous-and disobedient-dog. Full Circle Storytelling is a free event and open to the public. AUDITIONS: GREAT LAKES MEDIEVAL FAIRE 2016

Auditions for the 2016 season of the Great Lakes Medieval Faire will be held March 12th and 13th from 10am to 5pm at the Geneva Lodge and Conference Center, 4888 North Broadway, Geneva-on-the-Lake OH, 44041. Please email glmfcast(a)gmail.com or call (440) 867-1045 to schedule an audition. Walk-in's are also welcomed, though we do recommend scheduling your audition, as any walk-ins will be first come first serve, and seen AFTER any scheduled auditions in the time frame in which you arrive. Please bring with you a monologue of your choice that best displays your acting style, as well as any special talents such as juggling, singing, dancing, or any instruments you may play. A current theater resume and headshot is recommended though not required. Be prepared to participate in a light improvisational exercise as part of your auditions.
