Film Fest strives to showcase the best local, national, and international films from up-and-coming filmmakers. There is one more chance to audition for this prestigious group and join them on stage for their monumentous occasion. Not many groups can claim to still be performing for 60 years. Beck Center for the Arts Youth Theater, one of the oldest continuously running Youth Theaters in the country, is holding auditions on February 13 & 14, 2016 for the final production of our 67th Anniversary Season: BIG, THE MUSICAL Book by John Weidman Music by David Shire Lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr. Based on the Twentieth Century Fox film Big, written by Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg Direction by Russel Stich Musical Direction by Matthew Dolan Choreography by Rebecca Frick The Story: The classic 1987 motion picture fantasy bursts onto the stage in this unforgettable theatrical experience. Josh Baskin is sick of being an awkward kid. At a carnival, he makes a wish to the Zoltar machine to become "big". To his shock, his wish is granted. After an understandably awkward beginning, Josh is forced to do "adult" things like getting a job and a girlfriend. In the end he discovers there's much more to being an adult than he's bargained for, and learns we must all grow up at our own pace, in our own time. With the aim of inspiring performance and recognizing the importance of musical theatre and arts education in Northeast Ohio high schools, the program is affiliated with the National High School Musical Theatre awards (“The Jimmy Awards”) presented by the Broadway league Foundation. “It is exciting to be included in this first-time program,” says theatre director Mark A. Zimmerman. “Our students are already working hard to share their talent with our audience and welcome the challenge of competing at a regional level.” The Firestone Theatre production of *Disney’s The Little Mermaid* will appear on the Firestone High School stage for five performances starting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016.
