Playwrights Local 4181 proudly presents its first playwriting workshop with Literary Cleveland! Registration is open for this four-session course beginning Thursday, March 3rd at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Tremont. This hands-on workshop will be led by Playwrights Local’s Director in Residence Dale Heinen, who’s previously taught playwriting at universities and theaters in London and Brazil. Dale’s work in new-play development includes many years as staff dramaturg and associate at Soho Theatre, a premiere new writing theater in London’s West End. In addition, Dale’s teaching is informed by extensive experience as a director in Chicago, Cleveland, New York, London and Glasgow. Entitled “Finding the Spark,” this workshop is equally appropriate for those who have written a play and for those new to playwriting. Each week will delve into a different element of the craft: language, theatricality, character, and story. Every session will give you the chance to produce new work through in-class writing prompts, and offer you opportunities to receive feedback on new or old work. By the end of the four-session workshop, you will have gained a wide range of entry points for generating a play, enhanced your craft, and attained a clearer view of the theatrical and personal points of view that inform your work as a playwright. WordStage Literary Concerts opens its 2016 Wright Chapel Series with a Shakespearian Valentine Friday, February 12th at 7:30 PM Shakespeare, Love and Music, could there be a more felicitous melding of Subjects and Author? >From his most sparkling comedies to his darkest tragedies and in his 154 Sonnets, the Bard contemplated love in all its forms. From the witty banter of Beatrice and Benedick to the biting repartee of Kate and Petruccio, Shakespeare’s treatment of these universal subjects is both wide in its sweep and has remained remarkably relevant for nearly 400 years. Using selections from his plays and poetry, and accompanying it with music of the composers that were inspired by Shakespeare’s works, the artists of WordStage are pleased to present this work just before Valentine’s Day 2016, that will showcase a selection of enchanting texts from Britain’s greatest author on humankind’s most absorbing topic. Join actors Marci Paolucci & Tim Tavcar, violinist Mary Beth Ions and pianist Patrick Wickliffe as they present this Shakespearean Valentine of timeless words paired with song tunes inspired by the Bard's poetry and plays. ROAD to FREEDOM an historical underground railroad reenactment Looking for an actor to portray a character as you escort or hinder a large group of runaway slaves along an actual site of the Underground Railroad. Princess Camps! Nordonia Drama Club!

As the Nordonia High School Drama Club is preparing for their spring musical production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's *Cinderella*, they will also be hosting two very special princess day camps, open to all local princesses! The camps, which are open to princesses ages 5 and up, will be held in the Nordonia High School Auditorium on *February 13th and February 27th, 2016*. Each camp will run from *3:00 until 5:30 PM*. The camps will consist of a princess dance class led by *Cinderella* choreographer Megan Gargano, a princess craft, and other activities led by the cast of our spring production of *Cinderella*. Each princess in attendance will receive their own tiara and a ticket to come see *Cinderella* when it performs on the Nordonia stage April 15th through the 17th. *The cost of the camp is $40. Rubber City Shakespeare Company is casting non-equity actors for its spring production of William Shakespeare's *Comedy of Errors*, directed by Michele McNeal. All roles are available. Auditions are February 6 from 10am-1pm and 6:30pm-9pm; as well as February 8 from 6:30pm-9pm and are held at the Summit Artspace 140 E. Market St. Akron, OH 44308. The production runs April 1-17, Thursday- Saturday evenings and Sunday matinees. Rehearsals begin March 6 through March 31, from 6:30-10pm (Sunday-Thursday) with the exception of tech week which is 6-11pm. Double Tech will be on SATURDAY 3/26 from 10am-8pm. The company will have off for 3/27, Easter Sunday. Thanks Mr. Swinderman for sharing the philosophy at WEWS -- " for our paying advertising clients, we always pay our actors". It is indeed heartening to know that we actors have an ally at TV5. Now as to the "inaccuracies" -- 1. My name is spelled "Toomey". 2. "in a recent post suggested that NewsChannel 5" -- well, I just re-read every word of my postings. I never mentioned "NewsChannel 5" or "WEWS". So that inaccuracy is inaccurate. (I am forwarding this message and my entire transcript to you directly at info(a)1031films.com.) In fact, "Billy" did in his response to me: "Mr. So-And-So set the pace casting actors to do a channel 5 commercial for free a while back. Now a doctor ... looking for actors to work sans pay on a commercial shoot to be aired on channel 3" Easy for Billy to connect a past event (TV5 looking for "fans") with the current "doctor" no-pay. Easy mistake for you to make. No apology necessary. 3. "NewsChannel 5 ... taking advantage of local actors" -- You said "the station produces promos intended to promote its newscasts we do seek unpaid extras or 'fans' ... not ... ACTORS" That's cool. That clarification helps the Talent Community know that you don't need talent, just a warm body. 4. "taking advantage" I think WEWS does, a little. "not have a the budget in the promotions department" That's a shame. Because, of course, the ratings of the news department contribute to the ratings of the station, which drive station revenue from ad sales. Certainly qualifies for my "poke at no pay for profit-producing business development messages". Would you not agree that the goal of your promos is to increase profits? If so, as Mary Faktor so ably noted, "When Money Is Made, The Talent Gets Paid!" 5. "Furthermore we have hired many actors for paid roles after they have participated in some of the unpaid extra promo work as a token of our appreciation." Oh. So you "many" times skip the "fans" when actual "actors" come out for your freebies. I see. Takes me back to #4, just saying. 6. "So if you'd like to submit your headshot and resume for future COMMERCIAL consideration" [emphasis mine] I'm kinda guessing the "you" is "Talent Community" and not me personally. Volunteer judges will read and choose eight plays to be performed at the Playhouse during 8x10 TheatreFest Weekend, July 15, 16 and 17, 2016. Audience members will rank the plays, and following Sunday's matinee, winners will be announced and cash prizes awarded. The deadline for entries is midnight on Friday, May 13, 2016. Play finalists will be announced on May 27, 2016. Each of the eight finalists will receive a full production of his or her play - performed by volunteer actors - and two complimentary tickets to 8x10 TheatreFest. Auditions for actors age 17 and up will take place on May 29 and 30 with details to be posted soon.
