Hayas Performing Arts Center Brunswick High School 3581 Center Road, Brunswick Our winter play takes an "absurd" turn with Eugene Ionesco's post-WWII drama. Residents in a small town in France are surprised one day when they see a rhinoceros running through the city's streets. As if seeing a rhinoceros isn't strange enough, we soon discover that it is actually the townspeople who are turning into rhinoceroses- by choice! As everyone around him begins to transform into wild beasts, our main character, Berenger, is left wondering what it really means be to be human- and whether or not he wants to remain human. From Connie Williams, The Akronist <http://www.theakronist.com/>: I had the pleasure of previewing Wandering Aesthetics’ latest storytelling production, 'Tails From The Witch's Cauldron (Stories of Blood, Sex and Rock 'N' Roll),' which opens Friday, Jan. 29, at SageRock at 15 Broad Street in Akron. Co-artistic Directors Benjamin Rexroad and Kyle Jozsa and actress Nici Romo collaborate to create a storytelling experience like none I’ve experienced before. I’ve been to a great number of Wandering Aesthetics events in the past, and they often lean toward the unconventional. With this production, they take unconventional theatre to a whole different level. 'Tails From The Witch's Cauldron' is wacky, interactive, vaudeville-flavored fun. Jozsa charms the audience with his masterful storytelling skills and his mischievous demeanor. Romo’s gift for physical comedy and her fearless onstage abandon combine to deliver a winning performance. Rexroad, who directs 'Tails From The Witch's Cauldron,' makes a rare onstage appearance that has me hoping he will make a habit of it. I mentioned earlier that this show is interactive, and it certainly is. The storytellers do not just break the “fourth wall"; they obliterate it. The audience is told at the outset to feel free to interact with the performers. I asked Rexroad about this element of the production and he replied, “The audience can be as much a part of it as they want to be.” He went on to add that he enjoys trying new ideas and experimenting with what he finds interesting. Three projects proposed by Wandering Aesthetics Theatre Company are finalists in the Knight Arts Challenge, a competition sponsored by the Knight Foundation. Winners of the Knight Arts Challenge will be announced in March, and recipients are required to raise matching funds to receive their awards. Wandering Aesthetics is hosting this production and will also host other events in an effort to raise the funds needed to receive the full sum awarded so that they may continue to bring innovative arts programming to Akron and beyond. EVITA AUDITIONS TONIGHT

Tonight at 7 PM the Happy Ending Lyric Players (H.E.L.P.) will hold the third night of auditions for the wonderful musical EVITA. Auditions are in the Sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland at 3630 Fairmount Boulevard at the corner of Eaton Road in Shaker Heights. EVITA is a wonderful musical based on the story of Eva Duarte's rise from rural, small town girl to the wife of the president of Argentina. Beautiful music, challenging choreography, and lot of singing make this a special production. All roles are open. An audition appointment is not required. Come prepared to sing a song of your choosing, preferably something from EVITA if you seek a major role. An accompanist is provided. Don't sell chorus short. As a chorister you will learn plenty of music, appear in many, many scenes, do some creative dancing and dance movements, and have an opportunity for several minor roles. 7 PM tonight. Hello everyone, We are casting a documentary in Cleveland Ohio please see below. The film is a mostly biographical documentary on rapper, producer, and musician Charles Hamilton for RedBull TV. We're looking to cast a young lookalike to portray him in recreation scenes of his childhood in Cleveland. Here are the job details: Schedule: Feb 10-11 for 2 (6-hour) non-union days Budget: rate is $250/day for the actor Location: Parts of Cleveland and surrounding suburbs, but we're unable to provide transportation to/from set Distribution: TBD Spring 2016, initial release via web/mobile Actor/Model Description: African-American male, between the ages of 4-9 A few years ago, Charles scored the biggest record deal for a new artist, one of the most promising rappers and few who could actually read music. The deal brought some issues from his childhood into the forefront, and for the past few years Charles has been trying to rebuild his career. We're documenting a more mature Charles, and exploring the connection between his creativity and past trauma. Originally from Cleveland, he showed had extraordinary gift for music at a very young age. He taught himself how to play the piano, performing songs from the radio by ear, and his earliest foray into the entertainment industry was as a child model and commercial actor. This was also a very difficult period for Charles, as he was subjected to molestation by a relative. The director is really hoping to recreate scenes that capture the innocence of childhood (filming with the actor in parks and playgrounds for example), while weaving in the nadir of Charles's life through a very minimal interpretation that will be filmed as more of an emotional memory of the abuse not a choreographed sequence of events. Charles's childhood is an important chapter in our story, and finding the right child to bring young Charles to life will have a huge impact on the look and tone of the film. The Festival features two full-length (two-act) plays by final-year MFA candidates Logan Smith and L. Langford, and two short one-act plays by second-year grad students JC Cifranic and Samuel Amazing. Thu-Sat, Feb 11-13 at 8 pm: A double bill of the 10-minute play: The Last Word by JC Cifranic and the two-act The Panther Dancer by Logan Smith Thu-Sat, Feb 18-20 at 8 pm: The 20-minute play The Last Stand on Mango Street by Samuel Amazing, with the two-act .The Split Show by L. Langford. The Last Word by JC Cifranic is about two hitmen who are conducting business as usual - until one comment sets off a discussion about an unmentioned pet peeve. Directed by con-con director Cory Molner and featuring Lucy Bredeson-Smith, Charles Hargrave and Ryan Mayer. The Panther Dancer by Logan Smith is a playful synthesis of biographical fact and tabloid journalism, tracing the arc of Michael Jackson's life by staging the many mediated images of it. Michael wanted, in his own person, to be the greatest show on earth. And perhaps he was. And here Michael's meteoric rise and tragic fall are rendered a sidelong glance in fast-forward. Directed by con-cons Clyde Simon and featuring Dave Flynt, Zac Hudak, Miguel Osborne, Pamela Morton and Monica Zach. The Last Stand on Mango Street by Samuel Amazing is a twenty-minute, one-person play following a grocery shop owner as he lives through the last day of Earth. Or the first day of the Apocalypse, however you'd like to look at it. Directed by con-cons Geoffrey Hoffman and featuring Robert Branch. The Split Show by L. Langford explores what happens when compassion and understanding help shrink the empathy gap. Momdukes is the sassy, irascible neighbor of the Wilsons, a raucous African-American family embroiled in domestic dysfunction. The Brusteins are a white, liberal, NPR-listening, Whole-Foods-loving couple expecting their first child. The Wilson's and the Brustein's worlds couldn't be further apartuntil a monumental mix-up and a fateful night bring the two families together. Inspired by actual events in Northeast Ohio. Directed by guest director Jimmie Woody and featuring Kelly Belle, Nikki Lewis, Leonard Goff, Tamicka Scruggs, Eric Sever, Gregg White and Kim Woodward. These plays are part of a three-year intensive program of study under playwright and Cleveland State University professor Mike Geither, and are co-produced by convergence-continuum and the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts (NEOMFA) in Creative Writing consortium.
