The independent film "A Murder Party" needs official logo and poster art. The film is a short feature set in Victorian England and centers around a young, wealthy man who accidentally kills his family's servant and forces his friends to cover up the incident. Despite the title, the film is a comedy, not horror. The director is seeking an artist to colloborate with who has a unique style that reflects the mood of the film. Unfortunately, because the budget was so low, no monetary compensation can be given, but artist will receive royalties (percentage negotiable) for any film merchandise sold that bears their art. Community theater reviews to appear in clevelandjewishnews.com Starting this week, the CJN will be providing weekly reviews of community theater productions. Talented, industrious and often unheralded, the directors, designers and actors who make up the string of amateur, community-based storytellers across Northeast Ohio will have their work reviewed and posted on our website. Other local newspapers that will be printing or posting these reviews include the News-Herald, the Morning Journal, the Chagrin Valley Times, Solon Times and Geauga Times Courier. Crossing Cuyahoga, Summit, Stark, Lorain, Ashtabula, Geauga, and Lake counties, CJN’s corp of designated critics will be offering more complete coverage of the local theater scene. Our community theater critics consist of students trained and experienced in arts journalism from Cleveland State University, under the guidance of CJN theater columnist Bob Abelman. They are supported by a CSU Civic Engagement Grant designed to creatively connect the campus with the community by fostering partnerships outside of the university. Joseph takes Clarence into the past to see George as a boy, rescuing his brother from drowning, enduring a beating from grieving druggist Gower, saving a child from accidental poisoning, then growing up to forgo college so he can save the family business and keep the citizens of Bedford Falls from being ruined by the Depression and the machinations of the conniving Henry Potter. George marries his childhood sweetheart, has a family, and resigns himself to a life of "failure." When his Uncle Billy misplaces $8,000 of the Building and Loan's money, George takes responsibility and runs to the bridge to commit suicide. Clarence stops him, and when George wishes he had never been born, makes the wish come true. Now George wanders through a Bedford Falls that has been rechristened Pottersville and has fallen far without him to save it. He realizes how many lives he has touched, how many people he has helped—and that he has been a success, after all. Clarence brings him back to "his" Bedford Falls and even manages to make Henry Potter pay for his sins. CLEVELAND PLAY HOUSE (CPH) HOLDING A CHRISTMAS STORY AUDITIONS FOR CHILDREN OF ALL RACES/ETHNICITES Cleveland Play House (CPH) is casting children ages 7-12, of all races and ethnicities, for its production of A Christmas Story, directed by John McCluggage. All positions are paid. Auditions are by appointment only. For BOYS AND GIRLS: Auditions will be held FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 9th from 5:30pm-8:30-pm & SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10th from 10:00am-2:00pm. FINAL CALLBACKS: will be held on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10th from 3:00pm-6:00p.m. Auditions will take place in CPH's rehearsal spaces, located on the fifth floor of the Middough Building, at 1901 E. 13th Street in Downtown Cleveland. Performers will audition with sides from the script, which will be sent when an appointment is set. Please note that children who will be 13 or older on 12/23/16 are ineligible to audition Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, November 1st, and will be held after school and on weekends, Tuesday-Sunday. The week of November 21st rehearsals will be during school hours. There will be no rehearsal on Thanksgiving Day. Performances are 8 shows a week from Nov. 25th - Dec. 23rd. Children will miss part or all of nine school days for rehearsal and performances. Has a wild imagination, is unsure of his feelings for Esther Jane, and is persistent, curious, and dramatic. Flick - (9-12, any race/ethnicity) One of Ralphie's best friends. A follower who is easy to pick on. Can't resist the triple dog dare and gets his tongue stuck to a lamppost. Has a sore arm. Also plays a Desperado. Schwartz - (9-12, any race/ethnicity) Another of Ralphie's buddies. He likes trouble. He's a little more on the ball than Flick and gets him to do things he probably shouldn't. Also plays a Desperado. Esther Jane -(9-12, any race/ethnicity) Has a crush on Ralphie. Sweet, girly and likeable. Best friends with Helen. Helen - (9-12, any race/ethnicity) Smartest girl in class. Likes to talk politics and gossip. Best friends with Esther Jane. Randy - (7-10) Ralphie's mischievous little brother who has a true fascination with Santa. Has to use the restroom at inopportune times. Ability to focus and to be still a plus. OPEN THEATRE AUDITIONS for What We're Up Against by Theresa Rebeck September 6 & 7 at 6 p.m. Kent State University at Stark Fine Arts Theatre 6000 Frank Avenue NW North Canton, Ohio 44720 The Kent State University at Stark Theatre has announced open auditions for the first theatrical production of the season, What We're Up Against by Theresa Rebeck, and directed by Kent State Stark Associate Professor of Theatre and Theatre Director Brian Newberg. Auditions are open to everyone, including students and community persons. We encourage diversity in our casting. What We're Up Against features Eliza, an intelligent and impetuous female associate at a male-dominated architecture firm, who challenges boundaries and sexist rules in her dog-eat-dog profession. Watch as she takes a whack at outdated office politics to break through the glass ceiling, and rocks the architecture world to its core in this in-your-face dark comedy. Auditions will be held on September 6 and 7 at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. Roles are available for two women and three men. No children. Those auditioning may perform a prepared monologue, if they wish, and the director may also choose sides (selected scene excerpts) to perform. The production will be performed November 11 - 20 in the Kent State Stark Theatre. Rehearsals will begin September 12, and will occur five evenings a week until opening. Scripts are available for perusal for periods up to 24 hours from the Fine Arts secretary (330-244-5151), Monday through Friday, during business hours (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). The campus will be closed on September 5, in observance of the holiday. Audition appointments are recommended, but not required. Scripts will also be available in the reserve area of the Stark Campus Library.
