ABOUT THE EVENT: The AWARD-WINNING Electric Pressure Cooker Cabaret is back ON THE ROAD at the historic Rialto Theatre in Kenmore for another month of "ANYTHING GOES" fun! Blooming from humble beginnings in the basement of a flower shop, the #EPCooker is an artist driven event that sees over 100 audience members, 20+ performances and 6 non-stop hours of art. Doors open and registration for performers begins at 7:00 pm. Performances begin between 8:00 - 8:30 pm. Anyone may sign up for a 12-minute slot. Performers may pre-register at epcooker.com <http://epcooker.com/>. An emcee, house drum kit, keyboard and sound system (with operators) are provided. This month's emcee: Performer Rosilyn Jentner Cicora. ALL varieties of acts are encouraged to perform. Previous acts have included: monologues, acoustic musicians, comedians, feats of strength, play readings, experimental art, dancers, scenes from plays, improvisation, devised work, full rock bands and performance artists. But the sky is the limit; no art is too taboo for the #EPCooker! ALL levels – from beginner to the most experienced – are encouraged to perform. Those under 18 are permitted to attend (and perform!) with adult supervision. The Rialto Theatre will be selling pizza by the slice and has a full bar available. Be honest... what would you, or any of us do without Fred and Neohiopal? Where else would you be able to find a costumer or a last-minute sub when your lead gets sick. How about being able to borrow a costume for Audrey? Do you think the Plain Dealer would post that? What about calling around to all of your theater friends instead? I know that I have advertised for soloists and plugged concerts on this list. I can't imagine the Cleveland arts scene without it. THEATRE AUDITIONS FOR REASONS TO BE HAPPY AT KENT STATE UNIVERSITY AT STARK JAN. 24-25 Auditions open to all, including students and members of the community. The Kent State University at Stark Theatre Department has announced open auditions for the next theatrical production of the season, Reasons to Be Happy by Neil LaBute, and directed by Kent State Stark Associate Professor of Theatre and Theatre Director Brian Newberg. Auditions are open to everyone, including students and community members. Kent State Stark encourages diversity in its casting. Four characters (Steph, Greg, Kent and Carly), whose personalities barely match up, become entangled in one another's lives in romantic, humorous and, sometimes, violent ways as they pursue a common denominator - happiness. However, such happiness does not come without tension, sacrifice and a little bit of comedy. Auditions will be held on Jan. 24-25 at 6 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. Roles are available for two women and two men (age range- approximately twenties/thirties). Those auditioning may perform a prepared monologue, if they wish, and the director may also choose sides (selected scene excerpts) for some to perform. Performance dates are April 14-15 and 21-22 at 7:30 p.m., and April 16 and 23 (with American Sign Language interpretation) at the Kent State Stark Theatre. Rehearsals begin Feb. 27 and will occur five evenings a week until opening. SPOTLIGHTS COFFEEHOUSE MUSICAL: WEIRD ROMANCE February 10-25, 2017Spotlights Theater, 9543 Broadview Road, 44147 The Broadview Heights Spotlights begins its 2017 Season with its Annual Coffeehouse Production of Weird Romance, two one-act science fiction musicals by Alan Menken (Little Shop of Horrors, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid). The first, The Girl Who Was Plugged In, is about a homeless bag-lady whose soul is transplanted into the body of a gorgeous female android by a company which manufactures celebrities. The second, Her Pilgrim Soul, is about a scientist who researches holographic imaging. One day a mysterious "living" holograph appears and changes his life forever. The Spotlights’ Coffeehouse Show includes a complimentary beverage bar (non-alcoholic), sponsored by Caruso’s Coffee, before the show and during an extended intermission, when luscious desserts provide by Michael Angelo’s Bakery and Eddie’s Creekside are available for purchase. The cast includes Nicholas Beiser, Ashley Bossard, Adam Bowers, Delia Brenna, Tara Corkery, Audrey Halvorson, Kevin Joseph Kelly, Robert Kowalewski, Stephanie Malfara, Peggy Newton, Alicia Pedrazza, and Jaclyn Phelps. The show is directed and music directed by Ryan Bergeron and choreographed by Jessica Sopko Medina. Tim Anderson is the technical director and Stephanie Giammarco is the costume designer. The Spotlights’ production runs from February 10 through 25. Performances will occur on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, and there will be a Sunday matinee on February 19 at 3:00pm.
