How "Crime" will save Cleveland? While Real Crime hurts a region and leaves marks that takes years to heal, Fictional Crime creates jobs, strengthens the economy, gives an outlet to vent and tells stories that can bring us together. The TV series "Law & Order" brought over one billion dollars in economic growth to New York City over 20 years. While it has ended, the spin-off "Law & Order: SVU" has just entered its eighteenth season. The series employees, actors, crew and other businesses benefit from the crime series. Emmy winning writer, Cleveland Cinema Czar and founder of Prelude2Cinema, Alex P. Michaels is seeking to bring "Crime" here with his crime/sci-fi series. "Out of Darkness: Cleveland" The series stars Robyn Cohen, known for starring opposite Bill Murray in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and opposite Adam Carolla in Road Hard. The series features a crime ridden city named "Cleaveland" and a government who assigns a special task FORCE (Federal Officers Resisting Criminal Elements) to keep the people safe. Good Afternoon!! The Mandel Jewish Community Center of Cleveland seeks applicants for its part-time Assistant Director of Playmakers Youth Theatre Program position. As part of the leadership team of the Mandel JCC, this position assists with the development and implementation of programming in order to expand and further advance the Playmakers program. Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following: • Promotes the Jewish mission and purpose of the Mandel JCC through programming. • Assists with the creation of the calendar of events for all Playmakers programming. • Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of theatre productions for year round and summer camp programs. • Implements an array of Performing Arts classes for all ages, including hiring instructors and coordinating class schedule. • Teaches a minimum of one class per session in field of expertise. • Directs at least one theatre production and one summer camp productions each year. • Assists with the supervision and coordination of operation and maintenance of the theatre's physical space, including set-up and tear-down before and after each performance. • Works with the Day Camp department throughout the year on all aspects of camp preparation: brochure, registration, staffing, transportation, recruitment/retention, etc. • Hires, supervises, and evaluates artistic, technical, administrative, and summer camp staff. • Assists with the creation of staff training curriculum for camp staff. • In conjunction with department Director, works with camp supervisors to create and implement camp programming. Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree or a Bachelor's degree in a related field as well as one to three years of experience in and/or directing large scale musical and non-musical productions. Proven experience working with children of all ages in a camp, school, or theatre setting is also required. Applicants will have working knowledge of financial management procedures, short and long term planning methods, and program development experience. Great Lakes Medieval Faire 2017

The first two sessions of auditions for the 2017 Great Lakes Medieval Faire will be held Sunday, January 29th and Sunday, February 26th from noon to 4pm at Best Friends Restaurant in Geneva. For our principal cast, we need four men preferably age 30+ to play our Knights Templar: -Richard Mallebeench, Master of the Templars in England -Gilbert de Lacy -Sir Roger St. Leger -Sir William de Harcourt We also need talented actors to portray our main villainous nobles the Earl Edmund of Lancaster and his wife Blanche of Artois, as well as their hired help; a chaotic neutral group of rogues and their leader. This year, our principal cast is based on people that actually existed (save for the rogues. They were just added for dramatic effect). Please research the character you are auditioning for, and tailor your audition piece appropriately. While the names of our leads are historically accurate, the age of the actor portraying them does not have to be. Cain Park Produces Regional Premiere of ROCK OF AGES Joanna May Hunkins appointed Theater Artistic Director Cain Park and the City of Cleveland Heights announce the regional premiere of ROCK OF AGES will be produced in the Alma Theater June 8-25 as part of Cain Park?s 2017 season. Newly appointed Cain Park Theater Artistic Director Joanna May Hunkins directs ROCK OF AGES with musical direction by Jordan Cooper. This Tony-nominated Broadway musical features a book by Chris D’Arienzo and the classic rock hits of bands including Bon Jovi, Styx, Journey, White Snake, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, and others. Set in LA’s infamous Sunset Strip in 1987, ROCK OF AGES tells the story of Drew, a boy from South Detroit, and Sherrie, a small-town girl, both in LA to chase their dreams of making it big and falling in love. ROCK OF AGES takes audiences back to the times of glam metal bands with big egos playing big guitar solos and sporting even bigger hair. The original Broadway production ran for 2,328 performances, closing on January 18, 2015 as the 27th-longest running show in Broadway history. ROCK OF AGES was nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Musical. It also received two Drama League nominations as well as two Outer Critics Circle Award nominations. Since debuting on Broadway in 2009, it has spawned replica productions worldwide in Japan, Australia and the United Kingdom as well as several touring productions. French Creek Theatre is pleased to announce auditions for... BLOOM by Andrew Morton Directed by Skip Corris Following the death of his father, 15-year-old Daniel and his mother, Lisa, are forced to move to an unfamiliar new city. After a violent outburst at his new school, Daniel's social worker, Michelle, suggests he spend a week working with her father, Bobby, an urban gardener of several abandoned lots in the middle of the city. A week soon turns into a few months, and, as the two men spend the summer tending the gardens, they begin to plant some much-needed hope in a neighborhood plagued by blight and help each other heal some old wounds. PERFORMANCES March 31 - April 9 Fridays & Saturdays at 7PM Sundays at 3PM AUDITIONS January 23 & 24 7PM - 9PM Open call. Actors may prepare a monologue, but is not required. Community theater reviews renewed

CSU grant gives more complete coverage of the local theater scene Starting last August, as part of a Cleveland State University Civic Engagement grant, weekly reviews of community theater productions across Cuyahoga, Summit, Stark, Lorain, Ashtabula, Geauga, and Lake counties were performed by a corp of trained arts journalism students under the guidance of theater critic Bob Abelman. The reviews were printed and/or posted in numerous local newspapers, including the News-Herald, the Morning Journal, the Cleveland Jewish News, the Chagrin Valley Times, and the Plain Press. The grant, which is designed to creatively connect the campus with the community by fostering partnerships outside of the university, continues until May and currently features the writing of Eric Kish, Gwendoyln Kochur and Roman Macharoni. The first review of the new year featured the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre’s current production of “Moonlight and Magnolias” (http://www.clevelandjewishnews.com/news/culture/) Up next is Clague Playhouse’s “Love From A Stranger.” And the grant has just been renewed for a second year.
