The response to A Celebration of Dance and Music, which premiered October 11, 2016 at the Ohio Theatre proved so strong, Cleveland Ballet will remount the entire evening at Playhouse Squares Hanna Theatre on January 27, 2017. This evening includes a program of original, dances that enhance Cleveland Ballets quickly growing repertoire. Artistic Director, Gladisa Guadalupe conceived the shape of the program and choreographed most of the dances. Guest choreographer Ramón Thielen choreographed one of the evenings show-stopping dances titled The Cycle of My Love. Cleveland Ballet looks to separate itself from traditional ballet companies by moving its musicians from the orchestra pit to the stage. As we build our company of dancers and group of artistic collaborators, says Guadalupe, we are looking for ways to create a look unique to Cleveland and Northeast Ohio A Celebration of Dance and Music shows audiences how the fluidity of dance and a musicians grace complement each other. Tenor Mikhail Urusov will return to the stage to accompany the dancers with the arias Amore Perduto and Granada. His tremendous performance is one of the many highlights of the evening. The exhibition is free and open to the public. This exhibition provides an unrivaled perspective on the life and legacy of one of the most accomplished bass players of the twentieth century. Hinton worked with performers across the spectrum of styles, including Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong, Bing Crosby, Barbra Streisand, and Paul McCartney. The selected artwork has been curated by Oberlin Conservatory Special Collections Librarian and Curator Jeremy Smith. Cuyahoga County Students Grades 1 -12 are invited to submit original plays to the 39th Annual Marilyn Bianchi Kids' Playwriting Festival The Marilyn Bianchi Kids' Playwriting Festival is open to all students in Cuyahoga County, grades 1 -12, whether home-schooled or attending a private, public or charter school. All plays must be the original work of the student who is submitting it. No collaborations, no adaptations or copying from movies, TV, books or other plays. Teachers and parents can offer advise or constructive criticism, but should not help with characters or dialogue. The play may be in any category: comedy, drama, mystery, fantasy - wherever your imagination leads you. The Festival does not accept musicals (but scripts may call for brief music or songs as part of the action). Winning plays are awarded on the basis of imagination and human values as much as upon playwriting skill. Plays submitted by 1st - 6th Graders should be no longer than 10 minutes when read aloud.Plays submitted by 7th - 12th Graders should be no longer than 20 minutes when read aloud.(This means your play can be LESS than 10 or 20 minutes.) Plays must be typed, no handwritten plays are accepted. Please e-mail youngplaywrights(a)dobama.org to be sent an Entry Form. Include a title page that has: The title of the play, playwright's name and address, phone number, school, and grade. The playwright's name and age should not appear anywhere else on the play. Having anywhere from two to ten characters in your play is a good thing. The characters can be people (kids, teenagers or grown-ups), animals (dogs, cats, insects), monsters (all kinds), robots, plants (trees, flowers, poison ivy) and even inanimate objects (a television set, a toaster, a washing machine), etcetera. 3. Having your play take place anywhere from one to three locations is another good thing. 4. Remember a play is different from a movie. If in your play a character jumps out of a plane, lands in pasture on top of a giant bull who throws him into a lake that he swims across: this will be a challenge to put on a stage. This would be something you would more likely to see in a movie. 5. Remember these are just suggestions and not rules. Deadline for submissions is March 1, 2017. Winners will be announced by April 1, 2017. Auditions for this year's Festival will be held in Meeting Room A of the Cleveland Heights Public Library, 2345 Lee Road, Cleveland Heights on Wednesday, April 5th from 5 - 7 pm and Saturday, April 8th for 10 am - 2 pm. Actors of all ages will be needed. Actors do not need to prepare a monologue, but should come prepared to move and read from scripts. Beck Center is thrilled to announce auditions for the regional premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's timely drama *A GREAT WILDERNESS, *directed by Beck Center Artistic Director Scott Spence *A GREAT WILDERNESS* replaces the previously announced production of *THE DRESSER*. Auditions (By Appointment) will take place on *Sunday evening (January 15th)* and *Tuesday* *evening (January 17th)*. You may secure your slot for one of those evenings by calling the Beck box office at 216-521-2540 x10 *A GREAT WILDERNESS* will open on Friday, March 3rd and continue through April 9th. It is anticipated that rehearsals will begin on or around January 30th. There are 6 roles (3 female, 2 male, 1 teenage male---see below for more information). Auditions are open to both Equity members and Non Equity. It is anticipated that two AEA contracts (Special Appearance Tier One) will be used for this production. They take place on location at TCT—a 188 seat, ADA compliant theatre located on the eastern edge of the Detroit-Shoreway area of Cleveland's near west side. Fall and Spring classes are held on Saturdays for eight-week sessions and are broken down in appropriate age groups and scheduled as follows: Pre-school (ages 3-5) 10am to 11am Kids (ages 6-10) 10am to 1pm Early Teens (ages 11-14) 10am to 1pm Through puppets, music, movement, improvisation, story-telling and acting, students develop communication skills, teamwork, confidence, and creative expression.
