Near West Theatre announces AUDITIONS for Aida Youth Cast (Ages 9 to 15) November 20, 21 & 22, 2017 Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Come one of these evenings. Plan to stay for the entire time specified. See list of roles below! Aida runs February 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24 & 25 2018 Rehearsals begin Monday, December 11, 2017 (Will break for holidays!) No experience or preparation required. Dress for movement. Please plan to stay for the entire time specified, and arrive 15 minutes before audition time to register. Anyone arriving after the starting time will not audition that day. At Near West Theatre we encourage everyone to audition. People of all experience levels, races, ethnicities, neighborhoods, sizes, gender identities and backgrounds are needed. We use theater to build community and relationships. Daughter of King Amonasro. Radames- An Egyptian Captain and the son of Zoser. A strong, handsome, adventurous soldier who falls in love with Aida. Amneris- A beautiful and materialistic Egyptian Princess who is the betrothed of Captain Radames. Daughter of the Pharaoh. Mereb- A young Nubian slave and servant to Radames. He is faithful to his Nubian heritage and befriends Aida upon her arrival to Egypt. Zoser- The manipulative and evil Chief Minister hungry for power. He attempts to poison the Pharaoh. He is the father of Radames. Nehebka- A Nubian slave who is friendly with Aida. She creates a robe for the Nubian Princess. Pharaoh- The Leader of Egypt and father to Amneris. This colorful romantic comedy explores the dynamics between the sexes as well as the phenomenon of when a woman knows what she wants…she knows how to get it. PREPARATION Please prepare ONE contemporary monologue not to exceed THREE minutes. Finally, please bring three copies of your headshot and resume (stapled together) to your audition time. MARY: (Female, mid/late 50s, Any Ethnicity.) Married for 30 years and now suddenly divorced. “Good catholic girl.” Can be a little judgmental. Still slim and petite. Former beauty queen. WES: (Male, early 30s, Any Ethnicity.) Handsome, with character, a former football player turned sports journalist. Hopelessly in love with WILHEMINA. LADONTE: (Male, 30s, Any Ethnicity.) Each is in the closet for vastly different reasons. Enter 18-year-old John, who runs in panicked immediately following his first gay sexual encounter.
