The Dark Room is an ongoing event held on the second Tuesday of each month. The Dark Room affords emerging and veteran playwrights the space and resources to develop new works. It offers a venue to workshop plays, novels, poems, or any other written work in a supportive, yet critical environment. *Tuesday, August 8th* *The Church at CPT* (Just east of the Gordon Square Theatre Box Office) Cleveland Public Theatre 6415 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102 *FREE Great Lakes Beer!* *7:00pm: *Sign-up begins for writers and actors (space is limited). Ticket sales and donations at the event will go toward supporting Singers Companye's mission of "Giving Voice to the Human Experience" both locally and abroad. In addition to featuring many of its own singers, Singers Companye is extending an invitation to its member's talented friends and family to audition for the performance. *Lakeland Civic Theatre* *Seeks a * *SET and LIGHTING DESIGNER for* *Merrily We Roll Along* Music and Lyrics by *Stephen Sondheim* Book by *George Furth* Directed by *Martin Friedman* Musical Direction by *Jordan Cooper* Sound Designed by *Eric Simna* Choreography by *Jennifer Pogue* *The Position: * The position we are seeking is for a set designer to work with a wonderful group of people on the Lakeland Theatre's production of *Merrily We Roll Along. *This play presents certain creative challenges that demand a person of not only a proven ability to collaborate but also of using their design abilities to the utmost. The theatre is a classic proscenium arch design which has it's idiosyncrasies; good and bad. The position also includes a Technical Director and carpenter (to be hired). There is also a House Tech on premises. *The Play: Lakeland's production will open on February 2, 2018 and close on February 19. * *Merrily We Roll Along, *written in 1981, is based on a 1934 play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. The musical (with a book by George Furth) was first produced in November of 1981, where it ran for 17 performances. Not very successful eh? It tells of the disintegration of the friendship of successful songwriter Franklin Shepard, his lyricist and best friend Charlie Kringas, and novelist Mary Flynn. The action moves backward through time, from 1976 to 1957. This is one of Stephen Sondheim’s most accessible and difficult scores. It is most certainly about friendship and its importance in the lives of three people. This show has great personal meaning to me. And while the book is problematic; I am confident that our production team and the actors that are cast can overcome this. Review of "Waiting for Godot" at the Beck Center for the Arts

Waiting for Yan Gomes and other things existential at the Beck Bob Abelman Cleveland Jewish News, The News Herald, The Morning Journal Member, International Association of Theatre Critics Unless you’re sitting in the audience for the musical “Damn Yankees” or the biographical drama “Lombardi,” sports fans and theatregoers aren’t usually the same people. All the world may be a stage to Shakespeare enthusiasts, but for those at the ballpark the world is an uneven playing field where winners never quit, quitters never win, and there’s always next year. There is no greater mixed metaphor than comparing a show to The Show, particularly when one is by Samuel Beckett and the other is baseball. But last Friday night, worlds apart but just 10 miles away, the Indians met the Yankees at Progressive Field for game 2 of the ALDS while Vladimir and Estragon were waiting for Godot at the Beck Center for the Arts.
