Two people meet in a cafe and find their way through a conversational minefield as an offstage bell interrupts their false starts, gaffes, and faux pas on the way to falling in love. WORDS, WORDS, WORDS recalls the philosophical adage that three monkeys typing into infinity will sooner or later produce Hamlet and asks: What would monkeys talk about at their typewriters? THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE brings together Dawn, a young woman with a stutter, and Don, the creator and teacher of Unamunda, a wild comic language. Their lesson sends them off into a dazzling display of hysterical verbal pyrotechnics—and, of course, true love. PHILIP GLASS BUYS A LOAF OF BREAD is a parodic musical vignette in trademark Glassian style, with the celebrated composer having a moment of existential crisis in a bakery. THE PHILADELPHIA presents a young man in a restaurant who has fallen into "a Philadelphia," a Twilight Zone-like state in which he cannot get anything he asks for. VARIATIONS ON THE DEATH OF TROTSKY shows us the Russian revolutionary on the day of his demise, desperately trying to cope with the mountain-climber's axe he's discovered in his head. Lynchburg, Virginia. The former site of a thriving cotton mill is now an impoverished neighborhood. Deeply affected by recent killings of young black men like himself, Ruffrino, a 14-year-old "militant," incites riots at school and online. More and more at odds with his mother and grandfather, the boy's anger grows beyond containment while the family home literally sinks into the cotton field and no one seems to notice but him. A National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere. About The Director... Jennifer L. Nelson is a Washington DC-based theatre professional who dedicates her artistic life to representing human dignity, justice and good humor. She has been an actor, director, playwright, administrator and professor. Her professional career began with the Living Stage Theatre at Arena Stage. Following that, she served as Producing Artistic Director of the African Continuum Theatre Company. Her play Torn from the Headlines was awarded a Helen Hayes Award for Most Outstanding New Play. She is a currently a busy freelance director. Her most recent productions were The Gospel at Colonus for AvantBard Theatre; and Milk Like Sugar for Mosaic Theater Company where she is an Associate Artist. She is also Artistic and Legacy Project Advisor at Ford's Theatre. She is proud to have served on the Board of the Theatre Communications Group (TCG) and is a former President of the League of Washington Theatres. About the rehearsals... Stocker Arts Center Hosts Lorain County Printmakers Exhibition

Hello, How are you? I'd like to share with you some information about a local printmaker exhibition coming up at Stocker Arts Center. A bio sheet for the five artists is attached. Allison Stocker Arts Center Hosts Lorain County Printmakers Exhibition Lorain County Community College's Stocker Arts Center will present a Lorain County Printmakers Exhibition Thursday, November 2 to Friday, December 8. The show features five artists who have made their mark in Lorain County. An artists' reception will be held on Thursday, November 2 from 3-7 p.m. in the Beth K. Stocker Art Gallery. The printmakers include well-known influencers and teachers Paul Arnold, David Jansheski and Mary Owen Rosenthal, and the exhibit acts as a tribute honoring their legacies. The show also features the woodblock prints of Claudio Orso and etchings by Sean Crum, who teaches at LCCC and other locations in Lorain County. Highlights include masterful woodblock prints from Arnold, formerly from Oberlin; lush mixed-media prints by Jansheski, formerly of Avon Lake; woodblock prints by Rosenthal, formerly of Oberlin; bold woodblock prints by Orso of Oberlin; and etchings by Crum of Avon Lake. A portion of this exhibition will travel to Zygote Press in Cleveland in the spring. Stocker Arts Center would like to thank Liz Maugins of Zygote Press, Kemper Arnold, Peg Arnold, Danielle Locke of the Community Foundation of Lorain County, Mike Morgenstern and Matt Morgenstern. How can we make this happen in northeast Ohio? Playhouse Square, EJ Thomas Hall and other venues, what will it take to get every student to a major theatrical production? *League Announces Largest Theatre Education Partnership in the History of NYC* The Broadway League, with the support of the New York City Department of Education, is launching the first full year of Broadway Bridges. This program aims to give every NYC public high school student the opportunity to see a Broadway show before graduation. Broadway Bridges offers public high schools in all five boroughs $10 Broadway tickets for their 10th grade students. The tickets are timed to coincide with the demands of the school calendar. Independently, Broadway-based commercial producers and not-for-profit institutions such as Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, Roundabout Theatre Company, and TDF already bring almost 25,000 students to live theatre each year. In complementing the long-standing work of these programs, Broadway Bridges has the ability to reach students who may not otherwise have the chance to attend a Broadway show. In the fall cycle, participating shows will include */A Bronx Tale, Aladdin, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Kinky Boots, Miss Saigon, The Band’s Visit, The Lion King, /*and*/The Phantom of the Opera/*. *Attention High School Students: Write a Show Tune, Win a Prize!* The National Endowment for the Arts has announced the Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge, a national competition for high school students who have a passion for writing songs that could be part of a musical theatre production. The program offers six finalists mentorship opportunities with professional songwriters and musicians and the opportunity to have an original song performed by those musicians. Finalists will also receive scholarship awards and more. Applications are open now and due by January 5, 2018. The finalists will be announced in February and the national competition will take place in New York City in April.
